Great documentary on an educational reality.
kua10122 August 2015
This documentary show the design process from the point of view of industrial design students from all over the world at a small school in northern Sweden. The environment is very open and nurturing and the filmmaker gets closer and closer to the key of industrial design as the film progresses. For someone who may not know much about the craft and engineering behind industrial design but is curious to learn more this is an excellent introduction and a great film. The characters come from various parts of the world but the school itself is threatened as Swedish education nowadays cost for non-European students. Watching this film you feel it would be very sad if the school would lose its non-European students.

Great insight to industrial design.

For someone who has never been properly introduced to the the craft of industrial design this documentary showed many important insights. And besides being a really, really good film on that topic I also think the drama of following the students' struggle was very interesting. Like I was looking at an artist at work. I look forward to more stories like this where the filmmaker/s make something exciting out of what to me seems like an engineering feat. The irony of this film is also that it takes place in northern Sweden far away from where you would normally expect world class design to take place. I would like to really recommend this film.

Entertaining documentary on narrow topic.
kua18524 August 2015
I was imagining a documentary on industrial design to be a bit dull and boring, but "All the world in a design school" is anything but boring. We get a chance to follow some international students at a school in northern Sweden during a year of studies when the school is in trouble because Sweden has decided to start to charge students from outside Europe school fees. The characters, a Chinese guy, Turkish guy, a Dutch and a French guy all shows what makes their world inside the school so exciting and inspiring even for us who has never been in the school. The school's teachers also show us what an interesting world a school of industrial design can be. I really liked this film.

Sympathetic and entertaining.

Hela världen i en designskola or All the world in a design school in English is a very entertaining film about some international students at a small industrial design school in Umeå in northern Sweden. It shows the everyday lives of these students and the struggles they have to go through to finish their projects. The faculty is very close and very personal and the contact between students and teachers is portrayed in a very beautiful way. Overall a very entertaining and beautiful documentary about an unexpected subject. This is truly a film I would recommend everyone interested or even not interested in industrial design.

Incredibly good documentary on industrial design processes.
gua13628 November 2015
I really enjoyed this film and it's way of dealing with the difficult task to show the difficult processes that industrial designers have to deal with, whether professional or student. The film follows a few characters during a year at one of the best industrial design schools for a year in a northern Scandinavian setting where one may not expect a top school of this caliber to be located. Students and faculty plus visiting lecturers give a great insight to what can be done if the atmosphere is open and welcoming yet put enough pressure on the students to perform. I would truly recommend this documentary film to anyone interested in the subject matter or in watching difficult, conceptual processes.

So nice portraits.

This film about some design students in Umeå is really nice as we get a chance to see a Chinese and a Turkish guy designing cars and other products from scratch. I have never really understood how this has been done so this film gave me a really good idea on the different steps in design instead of just showing a flashy finished product. Very useful to follow these students for a whole year in order to understand what incredible effort it is to make something as seemingly simple as a drill. I want to really suggest many people to watch this film especially if you are interested in design and industrial design. Recommended doc.

Intricate personal portraits
gua21010 December 2015
I would strongly like to recommend this beautifully executed documentary about something rather difficult to portray; the life of students at an industrial design school. Done in a low-key but firm fashion the filmmaker takes us on journey through the ideas and processes of a group of students during one year of studies. The audience gets to follow the ins and outs and the students do progress in a dramatically pleasant for the duration of the year. Ultimately we have a chance to feel the same climactic feeling the students feel as the year comes to an end. A well done documentary that rarely gets the exposure it deserves. I wish there were more films like this one readily available to wider audiences.

Finally a industrial design documentary
gua21912 December 2015
It was great to see a documentary about a topic like industrial design which must be tough. What I particularly like about this movie is that we get a chance to see the process that is normally so complicated to show. The students are eager to learn and offer a lot of insight themselves. The faculty at the school are very understanding and inspiring, you almost feel they are all on the same level which make the film so rewarding to watch. How I wish studying was this exciting when I went to (design) school myself. For anyone who care about the subject matter I really recommend this great film as a serious introduction to a fascinating subject.

Really good film.

Saw this film online via SVT Play as I missed it when it was shown. A great little film about some international students in northern Sweden studying industry design. We follow the characters for a year as they work in groups and independently on various subjects and topics and the story really grasps your attention as the students get closer to completion. The teachers at the school are very open minded and understanding and the filmmakers get really close to the characters in a beautiful way. I look forward to more films like this one but unfortunately I feel that the topic is too narrow and the characters are not Swedish enough for Swedish Television to make more films like this. I am however happy they made this one.

Subtle take on Industrial design.
gua48029 January 2016
In this documentary we meet students and faculty at one of the great schools for industrial design in the world, located in northern Sweden. The premise is to follow the students during a year as the school is losing its attractiveness due to the fact that Sweden has started to charge non-European students heavy tuition fees. The documentary doesn't just offer an insight to the very profession of industrial design but it also gives the viewer a deeper understanding of what it is that has made the school so successful in the past. I truly recommend this beautiful little film to anyone interested in telling a bigger story in a subtle way.

Industrial design studies in its naked form.
gua40230 January 2016
As an industrial designer I was going into the viewing of this film with quite a curious mindset, hoping that I would learn something from experience and also to be able to relive some of my own student days. And as the film is dealing with a group of international students from various parts of the world studying in Sweden I immediately got an idea of how intricate and exciting this film was going to be. As e get to follow the students over the span of a year we start to understand how important collaboration is and how mush you can actually gain from having great connection with your tutors. The film shows a very interesting reality and I hope as many industrial designers as possible get a chance to see this film as there is a lot in there that I believe we do lack from time to time when we become professional and get too far into our solutions.

Insightful little film.
gua-024543 April 2016
I watched All the World in a Design School at a festival screening here in the U.S. as I am interested in the subject matter of industrial design and found it quite an interesting introduction to how hard these students and designers actually work before we get a chance to see their models and drawings. The director-producer manages to give a very delicate personal insight to how tough the creative process is and how much you need to rely on other's input on your work. I was truly happy I did get to see this little documentary and hope it gets a wider audience than just festival screenings as it full of beautiful portraits, excellent editing and masterful patience on the filmmakers side.
