A Long Time Ago In A Galaxy Far, Far Away
jameswyattranks20 September 2023
An enjoyable episode for sure, although there's surprisingly little of the title character herself, it starts to build up its villain and gets you excited for what comes next. For the casual viewer you will start to get the sense of what the villain may be capable of and for a rebels fan, I think they've handled the transition to live action with this character much better than expected.

What i'm nervous for is how the situation will be handled from here, of course you don't want the Rebels finale completely undone with that explanation as to why Sabine did it, but you also don't want it to be a whimper of a finale. The balance will be important here.

The little action sequence with Sabine was enjoyable and those Night Troopers seem interesting. The stories Huyang is telling and Baylan was told may end up significant in some way. Let's see where we go from here!

A long waited return!
and_mikkelsen21 September 2023
This episode certainly had its great moments that captured my expectation as well as those i have been waiting for!

Yes this episode sees the return of Thrawn and I am glad its not just at the end of the episode as I feared! His introduction is well done as you get this slow build up with a lot of dark atmosphere! Lars Mikkelsen is just as good in live action as he was in the animated show! He just has such qn intimidating voice and a commanding presence!

I also really loved the set pices and design as it created a darker and mystical vibe! This show has familiar elements but is not affraid to go deeper into the mystical elements of Star Wars! Especially when Baylon starts talking about "The beginning"!

This episode also focuses more on Sabine which I don't mind, even if it gets a bit slow at times!

I expect the last two episodes to go HARD!

This felt like an episode of CW/Rebels and even certain moments from the Original Trilogy
poseyfan20 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was very pleasantly surprised with this one. It felt like I was watching Star Wars.

I am glad to see that Thrawn won't just be a cameo in the last episode, but that he'll be a big staple in the last 2 episodes. His army was very awe-inducing, and the Nightsisters were quite mysterious.

As always, Baylan is the best character in the episode still.

I loved the addition of the dog wolf thing and the turtle people. I literally thought I was watching Clone Wars or something like the ewoks from ROTJ.

I will say, the reunion between Ezra and Sabine was a bit underwhelming. Not completely botched, but could have been more emotional.

I am very excited for the last 2 episodes. I think I actually liked this one the most out of the 6 so far - even episode 5.

Exciting
landonohoes20 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Very slow episode...but it makes me very excited for what's to come in the next episode. I am so glad to finally see Ezra, however he does not really look the part. Of course we will just have to wait and see how things play out next episode. The lack of Ahsoka was interesting but im not against it as it is her show and gets the most screen time out of all the characters. It pushes boundaries and expands the franchise lore in an exciting way.

Because she operates in the gray areas, especially when she steps away from the Jedi Order, Her decision to reject the binary of "good" vs. "evil" while exploring her own fate sets her apart. This makes me very excited for the next episode.

Star Wars is back... Finally!!!
jimaahansen21 September 2023
Star Wars has always been more fantasy than Science fiction. Something that is almost forgotten after the sequels were made and up until now with Ahsoka.

Ahsoka series feels like a direct continuation from the prequel and original movies. (Though, It could be an advantage to have seen at least Rebels to get the finer nuisances of the story telling. Maybe Also Clone wars series).

Though I liked Andor, Rogue one and even Obi-wan Kenobi series, they did not have the fantasy aesthetics as the originals Somehow more sterile and more towards science fiction(with primarily humans) than fantasy. They were missing mystery, occult-like scenarios, magic ...and they had a serious lack fantasy steeds, creatures and beings.

They barely touched the realm of Knights, Princesses, Evil rulers, Slaves and people/creatures with strange powers and sinister fortresses.

All this was remedied by the arrival of Ahsoka.

If you liked the original movies and the prequels, then it is a must to see Ahsoka.

Dark/Gothic Star Wars (finally!)
Exiled_Jedi21 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First and foremost, you should ignore all the negative reviews regarding the specific episode. Obviously, the new generation of Star Wars is full of "sensitive lillies" and they reject anything which has strong dark elements.

The decayed appearance of Grand Admiral Thrawn's storm troopers (night troopers) reminded alot of the epic (for many and for me) DEATH TROOPERS book where a virus on Star Destroyer Vector transforms all the 8,000 crew members into some kind of undead. So this appearance in this episode have a strong gothic/decayed element, not to mention Captain Enoch who reminds a Gladiator during the Roman Empire era.

Beyond that, the episode doesn't have any ultra-uber lightsaber fight but this does not lower its level, on the contrary, the story strengthens the connections between the characters.

Last but not least and beyond the fact we saw Grand Admiral Thrawn, the key-element for me (and for all the old members of Star Wars freaks) was the presence of the Witches of Dathomir, an element present in many comic books - no one can forget the epic DARTH MAUL 4 where Maul fights such a Witch or the fact that the Witches are at least mentioned in many books of the epic NEW JEDI ORDER (Yuuzhan Vong Invasion).

Bottom-line: it was an episode for thinkers NOT FOR SHEEP, not for those who see Star Wars as a theme park but as something essential, something which might express elements of their character in real life.

Thus, 10/10.

This is something new
marianciobanuz21 September 2023
Well, this series seem to become better with each episode that goes by and this one is a great one, because the big bad guy is here and it is a pretty good one, totally different from Palpatine or Vader, for the fans who are not into computer generated cartoons, just like me, it was quite a shock, i expected to see someone like Gul Dukat or like the bad guy from Star Trek Insurection, someone very imposant, sneaky and scary, full of rage like a devil, just like Hellboy or just like Palpatine was the reincarnation of the Death in The return of the Jedi, a scary horror figure from the ancient legends in a sci fi futuristic movie, which was mindblowing, but Thrawn is not like that, a thing which was frustrating for me in the first scenes, because i am not very familiar with the character, but at least he is an original one and way better than Snoke which looks like an old giant grumpy guy, like a zombie king or something and i like to see the Star Wars universe to be expanded with the Other Rim and other unknown distant places, it is becoming the perfect replacement for B5 or Deep Space Nine and this it will make much more sci fi fans to become interested by the Star Wars saga and i sincerely hope to see even more Star Wars shows and episodes in the future doing this kind of new things.

All creatures great and small
kenstallings-6534621 September 2023
This episode may appear relatively laid back in comparison, but it sets up the ultimate conflict that no doubt will resonate in the last two episodes of season one.

The theme is all creatures great and small. In a hostile world where there are a few who amass power, and others who desperately predate to survive, there are still others who use guile and wisdom to endure.

A great many other strategic questions are answered, including how the Purrgils would know to jump to this galaxy and for what purpose. Turns out, one person's purgatory may well be another's reverent sanctuary.

There is also sadly, at work here, a cabal of people who deliberately write reviews designed with prejudice to denigrate. It would be nice if such people would find a life more productive.

Absolute genius
jorruuscabaoth6921 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I had the best laugh out loud moment at the start of the movie! Classic Star Wars! Loving David Tenant more and more!

And bringing the actual Great Mothers of the Dathomiri is perfect. What about those stormtroopers? Hope they will fill in why those stormtroopers look like that.

Cant wait for the final showdown between all the great characters. And I'm also hoping to see Garazeb Orrelios in action against the new Empire. With the rebels fleet! And Captain Teva!

Wonder if Dave Filoni will do a flashback with Freddie Prinze as Kanan Jarrus. That would make this the best live action Rebels Season 5!

Just about still with it
snoozejonc22 September 2023
Sabine arrives at her destination as Ahsoka follows.

I am relieved that the plot has moved from where it was lingering for the first five episodes and the introduction of certain characters is a positive.

I still find it difficult to keep interested in the story as there is a lot of exposition dialogue that I feel ambivalent about. For me we need to see something happen that does not involve reflection on the past or build up to characters we are yet to see. I appreciate I might feel different had I watched Rebels.

I think the best scenes involve the character Baylan Skoll, as you feel like it's laying the foundations of what is to come and just about keeps me wanting to find out what happens next.

Natasha Liu Bordizzo carries it well for the majority of the time and Lars Mikkelson adds a much needed presence.

Visually it continues to be beautifully designed. I love the battered Star Destroyer and the look of certain characters. As good as a certain location looks, I think it needed something significantly different to convey that we are in a different galaxy. What that would be though I have no suggestions. The art designers involved in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise are very creative, so maybe Disney should have consulted them.

Fan service at it's purest
SHU_Movies20 September 2023
This show continues to surprise me each week, giving us great episodes with great visuals, a great soundtrack, great action, great characters, and a great story & script. But where this series excels the most... Is the fan service!

It's turning-out to be one of the best pieces of Star Wars media that we've gotten in a long time, being great from a technical perspective, while appealing to the fans of the franchise, and the stories and characters inside of it. And one of the best things about it is that it all feels natural. A lot of attempted fan service in recent movies and shows (looking at cinema and TV on the whole here) features actors or characters that feel unnecessary and forced-in. But, the Ahsoka series manages to properly execute the fan service, while having it feel natural with the story.

It's just such an incredible way to take the journey set-up by the finale of Rebels, half a decade ago!

Worst episode in the show so far
unhived20 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Bad writing has always bothered me. I feel like this specific episode just takes it to extreme even by star wars new and "improved" standards.

Spoilers: When Sebine arrives on the mysterious galaxy where Thrawn and Ezra were supposed to have been lost without a trace for years, they find Thrawn instantly. What is worse, Thrawn still has a space ship which, according to the show, seems to be fully operational.

The bad guys let sebine go to find Ezra which Thrawn for some reason could not locate with all his storm troopers, spaceship and witches. She finds him in a matter of minutes. How? HOW?! WHY?!

I'm sorry, Ezra and Thrawn getting lost was one of the coolest points in Rebels. Gone without a trace. YEARS GO BY and suddenly, in a matter of minutes, pop, there they are!

Whoever wrote this episode, please feel ashamed of yourself. Shame! Shame! Shame!

Sadly for the show, the least interesting part of Ahsoka is.. Ahsoka
kevinandrewsphoto20 September 2023
I never watched the animated shows. Clone Wars or Rebels. So I have no attachment to any of the characters. The biggest complaint most people have brought up is not knowing any of the characters or plot lines they throw you into.

But to me, my biggest complaint is the lead character being so incredibly boring. This is of no fault to Rosario Dawson. She is doing what is on the page. But she shows no emotion, she moves and talks very slow. She is a Jedi so she seemingly has no base desires or interests other than "the greater good". And even when she is fighting she moves very slow.

I was wondering why this episode seemed so much more interesting than the previous ones and it's due to it having the least amount of Ahsoka. Sabine has her own writing problems, but at least I understand her motivations. Ray Stevenson continues to steal every scene he's in. And the actor who plays Thrawn has me excited as well.

The Heir to the Empire is Here!
maxglen20 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Another brilliant episode. Despite not having the seminal character in it, other than the first few minutes, this episode stood very comfortably on it's own two feet. Peridea has deepened the lore of Star Wars in a significant way with Huyang basically stating that it's where many of the first tales of the galaxy originated from and of course the Nightsisters which make their live-action debut here as well. The episode takes on a slightly darker tone which I think is fitting for the direction we are headed and helps that feeling of stepping boldly into the unknown. We finally get to see Thrawn and he is absolutely marvellous, Lars does an exceedingly stellar job with the character, as he did in Rebels. Sabine goes looking for Ezra and meets a species of adorable hermit people who, in turn, lead her to their village where we and Sabine are reunited with Ezra Bridger. The visuals and the music were stunning in this episode and it feels like it's all building up to an explosive conclusion. A strong 8 to a light 9/10 from me.

May the force be with you.

New Galaxy, finally
rsahuja20 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Finally, we get into a new galaxy, with starting with a new planet thats full of witchcraft. This sets a template for a new uncharted starwars storyline, with unlimited potential for new characters and worlds.

Great performances: General Thrawn makes an appearance; deeper insights into Baylan's psyche; Sabine's Dilemma gets intriguing on whether shell be able to use force; and Ezra appears!!

A new source of magic appears: witchcraft. Opens doors to something that's more intriguing; mysterious and requires a much more advanced Jedi skills to counter.

We are in for an exciting new starwars adventure!!

Not bad is good enough for me
danscurtu-wow20 September 2023
I still think Clone Wars is the best Star Wars ever created. Also I enjoyed a lot Rebels and got attached to the characters from this show. About this episode I am happy they did not messed Thrawn, he s really in character, while the overall vibes of the episode where a little more dramatic than usual.

Ashoka series is more like a next season of Rebels. There are so many things that could have been much better in this series, but for me, an old fan of these characters, I find it quite entertaining. I still think that the episode with the young Ashoka and Hayden was amazing and the series should have been a remake of Clone wars, but I can enjoy this one now for what it is.

As a final note, I also think Andor series are mindblowing, a masterpiece of cinematography and story telling, I wish Disney/Filoni would learn something from that or even work sometimes with those directors for all these new Star Wars live action they make that all fall on the more naive childish side of story telling.

Fans of Star Wars know exactly whats going on
ha77y73ad9727 September 2023
For an extended universe fan this is what Star Wars should have been for the Sequel trilogy! Thrawn should have been the evil returning during the time of the New Republic and that is truly whats happening

To be painted blue and still be able to portray such a menacing performance Lars Mikkelsen knows this character inside out. Going back and reading the original Thrawn trilogy from Thimothy Zahn back in the 1990s he is how i believe that he during those stories. Live action quietness and calculating every possible outcome to beat his opponent without knowing what hes true intentions are.

The rest of the story so far is literally the prologue that is going to lead to Filonis movie. He is living the dream of playing out all Star Wars Extended Universe stories in real live. This is going to blow everything that was done in the Sequel out of the water and into the Galaxy that Thrawn was stuck in

2 more episodes to go and i know that we are going to want more. Getting that movie released is going to be the greatest piece of Star Wars for a very long time.

The real Thrawn would have never become fat
franzul20 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So there are 3 Nightsisters waiting... no town? No population?

Thrawn looks so bad, fat and cheap. And what have all the stormtrooper done all this years? Eating each others? Why are the Nightsisters on the side of the Imperium? This makes zero sence.

And what a coincidence, they hitting the correct planet.

And this expositiondumping is anoying... Remeber temple? Remember good old days? Remember Skywalker?

Only positive things are the sweet wolf-rat,mounts (i want one so badly) and the animal animations.

I rather watch One Piece then this cheap, uncreative, constructet fanservice anymore.

The scene of meeting the witches felt off
keanuandrewska24 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I really like watching the new series, but in the new episode I could not get past this meeting scene of the witches in the other galaxy. It just gave me a huge Dune vibe with the music in the background and just felt copied to me. 3 sisters of a cult, really strikt in their behavior, awaiting a future with superhuman capabilities and fearing any interference. This is just the Bene Gesserit and just could not watch the rest of it with this thought in my mind. Watch it again, listen to the music in the background.

The rest of the story for this episode seemed to me a little too foreseeable. With Sabine being attacked. I was just not convinced.

Thank you Dave Filoni
Mikhail_Absava21 September 2023
I'm 30 years old, I and I was huge Star wars fan for most of my life, until my favorite universe was destroyed, thanks to Kathleen Kennedy and her decisions with new trilogy. Exept rogue one and andor tv series, I couldn't feel that childhood excitement, while watching anything that Disney has shown to us in past 8 years. Even mandalorian tv series, that were not that bad, suffered from the lack of an interesting plot, and constant repetition, boring settings.

And today, I felt as a kid again, from the begging of the 6th episode, little talks about old republic, and so on.

Thanks to Dave Filoni, I really wish he could run Star Wars in the future, somehow erase what they've done in new trilogy, and show us more of what we were waiting so long time ago.

It was good to see Thrawn....shrug...
horseshoeatombomb23 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It was so sad to lose Ray Stevenson but he played the performance of his career with wide shoulders large enough to carry bad actors. Sabine is horrible, devoid of emotion, skill, learning, empathy.....C3PO had more feeling. Why would you yell at a wolf/dog/horse/thing that looks like it came straight out of the original Willow movie because it alarmed you and ran off. It gave you a heads up but you didn't listen and then took way too many blaster bolts without her Mandalorian helmet. Then she is able to locate the good aliens from The Fifth Element (glad they are still alive). Who lead her to the most important thing in her life that she has felt so strongly to find.....only to show barely any emotion at all. Like you just ran into someone you went to school with at the grocery store.....not someone you have been craving to find. There was a weird Chronicles of Riddick vibe when they were flying down to the planet to land, the ship trailing condesation off the wing tips, music, and statues reminded me of Helium Prime. Even Thrawns #1 looks like he is wearing a necromancer mask. Of course this episode is setting up a very large action scene for the future, unfortunately it did it way to slowly. I would of rather stayed in the whale belly listening to Huyang tell the story of a galaxy far far away while traveling at lightspeed. The 3 witches from Clash of the Titans and Thrawn were mediocre at best. Baylon Skoll is the diamond in the rough here......amazing acting that saved the episode....again!

BTW I'm convinced the 9-10 level reviews can not be coming from anyone Gen X that grew up with Star Wars from the beginning. It stinks of Jedi come lately fans who grew up watching the last 3 movies and Star Wars cartoons. It's amazing how the rise of CGI special effects tech has undermined the actual story telling of this franchise. I guess with great special effects you can have bad acting and it will still be acceptable to most. Even if actors are supposed to ACT well to get paid big money. That's what they are on strike for....right??? Who knows these days, maybe poor performance still means good pay.

Too much plot convinience
kje-0527921 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The story requires Sabine to find Ezra so the bad guys set her free so she can find Ezra for them. Of course she finds him within a few hours. The problem is that they could have easily found him without her. The night sisters sensed that Ahsoka was coming, but couldn't sense Ezra who was like half a mile away?

Another problem is that Thrawn could have just left Ezra stranded on. Peridea. He really has no incentive to find him.

Other than that the visuals were great as usual and the horse-rat and the turtle-like aliens were cool.

I also enjoyed Thrawn's arrival and the look of his storm troopers. Baylon's thoughts on the Jedi Order were interesting as well.

It wasn't a bad episode overall, but for me it was a bit boring too watch, because the story prgresses too slowly and the tensionless action scenes don't make up for that.

The best parts are non-Ahsoka parts
inofaith20 September 2023
I have to say the best parts revolve around Baylan, Shin and Morgan going out to find Thrawn. Very exciting to see things unfold and discover their motives.

This reminds me of that one Book of Boba-Fett episode that was great: which was an all-Mandalorian episode actually.

And sadly the mediocre acting or lack of interesting directing is still a thing; but limited to the parts of Ahsoka and Sabine (Who didn't get much screen time this episode). Honestly the way they wrote and directed Sabine's part is showing to be lacking, it could be so much more deep and emotional. The action parts are good, but they chose to make her interactions with others as exciting as a wet newspaper.

The best episode so far
sofiagian20 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Probably because it didn't show much of Rosario's super stoic Ahsoka. If i had to watch another 10-15 minutes of Ahsoka slowly turning her head left and right and nodding i swear to god. What happened to her?? She wasn't like that in Mandalorian. Sad because i love her as a character but not in her own show as it seems.

Anyway, this episode had a very good Thrawn, and Ezra (both very similar to Rebels' animation of their characters even their mannerisms) and very beautiful cinematography. I also liked this new species we met, those turtles were interesting i hope we see more of them.🐢 Overall a good episode, finally.
