I recently saw the movie Disheartened, first movie from indie filmmaker Nicholas Schreck. While there was definitely a feeling of despair and sorrow throughout most of the movie, there was certainly an underlying feeling of hope that keeps the viewer engaged throughout the film. The movie stars Adam Quirch as Jeff, Shirley Norris as Kate, and Brad Wright as Mark. Shirley Norris in particular shines as Kate, a woman with low self- esteem who tries to better her life throughout the film. Adam Quirch plays Jeff, who has been dealt a very unfortunate hand, yet never stops believing in the kindness of others. Brad Wright plays Mark, a lecherous character who wants to undermine all of Kate's goodwill. The movie is shot on location in Missouri, which offers a seemingly tranquil setting for this dramatic tale. I look forward to seeing future offerings from Nicholas Schreck.
