My favorite episode yet!

This episode was stunning! The animation is drastically improved, and every frame is a work of art. I truly felt the spirit of the books come out in that last scene. Wow. I feel like they developed the story so well across these episodes!

The music has to be my favorite part! It's very special and unique.

Personally, I wish that the story was closer to the original books, but I understand that they had to fit it all into 6 episodes.

I think this is my favorite episode yet. Episode 5 is awesome too, though.

So yes, super amazing! Peet's character was very well done. I'm so, so excited for the finale!

The Best Yet!

This is the best episode yet! I am in the making of a fanfiction about Peet, and I think this shows exactly how I want to imagine him! The character of Peet displayed here is amazing and I love him! To add to that, the animation, expressions, and landscapes were phenomenal!

It is a bit different from the book, so the plot definitely moves a lot quicker, but even so it seemed like it followed the book's track well! I recommend this to any Wingfeather fan who likes Peet, good animation, beautiful landscape, action, suspense, and a good story!

I really enjoyed this episode! Thank you all for this amazing production!

S1:E4 Meticulous Notes for the Wingfeather Team
aerwiararchives1 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It was mentioned that the Wingfeather Team could, at a later date, go back and touch up previous episodes of the show and fix some errors. Here are some standout ones I found to make that process easier! These did not ruin the experience for me, but I think this might be helpful to the team! Thanks again, Elijah Elliott (Aerwiar Archives)

  • When the candle is blown out, the light should flicker, and either the flame should blow out a bit smoother, or the wick, if possible, should glow red for a second before cooling off. Right now, it looks like a big jump between lit and unlit.

That's the only thing I found! Great episode!

Oh. My. Goodness!!!!!!

My mind is blown! I'm trying to find words about how amazing this episode was 😄

The voice acting is top-notch! Every character feels real.

The animation is gorgeous 😍

The music is *tries to search for a word to properly describe the soundtrack, but comes up short cause no word can accurately portray how beautiful the music is*

The story just keeps getting better and better. It doesn't matter whether or not you've read the books. It's so captivating and engaging that you just get hooked for 30 minutes.

Major props to Kellen Goff. The dude plays 3 completely different characters in this episode! Someone give this man an award!

Thank you Chris, Andrew, and the entire crew for your love, care, and dedication to bringing this phenomenal series to the screen! 👏👏👏👏

Henry Ian Cusick steals the show.

I will preface this by saying that I hold a special place in my heart for Peet, so it brings a sort of tragic gladness to my soul to see how the animators and Ian's voice acting have brought the Sockman to life. His strangeness makes for many moments of levity even as his sadness hints at the reasons for his madness. Knowing the journey that lies ahead of him, I can only hope that future seasons will come quickly.

This episode really ramps up the action and there's a real sense that a crack in the dam is giving way to allow the rest of the adventure come flooding in. Moreover, the harsh, dissonant guitar music whenever danger presents itself is one of my favorite motifs in the score. I can't help but want the Igiby's to face peril more often so I can hear that excellent music some more.

Too many narrative changes
elijahaldrich-1521415 February 2023
Adaptating a narrative between mediums is not easy. But the best adaptations keep the narrative as similar as possible after the necessary changes. The Harry Potter series of an excellent example of adaptation done right. The vast majority of changes are omissions rather than complete narrative and character changes.

Alas, The Wingfeather Saga is not an adaptation done right. Not only are there omissions, but the actual addition changes add little to the narrative and take valuable time that could have been used to include important moments from the books.

The characters are also vastly changed. They have apparently all achieved the pinnacle of their arcs. None of them have the struggles or flaws contained in the book. In the novel, Janner wants to know more about his father and his purpose in life. In the show, he couldn't care less about who his father is, and Esben is mentioned in casual conversation by Nia and Podo when a chapter of the book is literally titled "A Stranger Called Esben." Janner's entire drive is to find out more about his father and grow into his responsibility as a protector of his siblings. And he gets none of it.

A major trait of Tink in the novels is his fear of heights. It's something he had to overcome and when he does it has strong implications for his character. That doesn't exist here. He's already fearless.

Leeli has little development in the first book and that's the same here. As for Nia and Podo, well they're essentially the same characters, they just do completely different things than they did in the books.

I wanted to love this show. I was incredibly excited for it. The animation is very good and so is the voice acting(when it isn't lost in a bad sound mix), but the narrative had been changed almost beyond recognition in ways that make the show itself far poorer.

Depending on how they end this season, they could still end up on the right track for season two, plotwise, but I'm afraid the characters have been hollowed out too much to fix.
