Episode title is accurate alright
CommanderCobra2 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First off, atrocious casting. None of the actors look military, much less act militarily.

Second flaw, too much missing information. Why 1978,, why over Russia, what is Ben saving?

This episode had so many flaws and actually played more like an episode of Macgyver; which they maybe realized in name mentioning it in the episode.

I enjoyed season 1, despite the in your face , overly diverse team. Great job of tying in the original classic show, fun episodes.

Season 2 episode 1 was a stinker, it happens. I'll stick around and see where this goes.

As a big fan of the original, an ideal season or series ending would of course to rescue Sam Beckett and bring in actor Scott Bakula, hell, make an entire season with his rescue.

Picking up from season one I think

Warning: Spoilers
Maybe I'm not closely in on the subliminal context of Quantum Leap, but I was on the edge of my seat at the end of season one, and I kind of expected some kind of resolution about that in the opening scene of this season two opener, but instead we see Ben transported to 1978 on some futile military operation. What to say I guess, anyway I'll still stick with the Quantum Leap reboot because hopefully we can get some sort of resolution.

Melissa Roxburgh guest stars as Ellen Grier and I wonder what's in store for future episodes. I'd love to see Ben be a member of the royal family or a contestant on Wheel of Fortune.

Surprisingly good premier
MiloSuperSpesh5 October 2023
Acting is pretty good for the most part, even that woman from manifest shows her range.

Direction gets the job done with some panache which is rare in shows like these.

Sound- no loud music over dialogue is always a plus.

Effects are basic to middling quality, (explosions and plane crash look like a cheap seat stunt show)

Story is ok, serviceable as a premier, tries to put us in bens shoes as he doesn't know whats going on.

Apart from the supporting cast of the week lacking depth and feel more like demographic appeal than anything else, i can only hope this improves as the season progresses as season 1 did.

As for the ending it's another tried and tested annoying cliff hanger and overall plot progression shoe horned in to 30- seconds.

What an ending.

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the characters in this episode. Always nice to see Francois Arnaud in any show. I like how the show brings up things that are pertinent then, but also now in so many ways. It's kind of discouraging to think we still are dealing with the same issues. At the start you keep wondering where is Addison but after awhile you forgot about Addison not showing up. One part that i always enjoyed was the history of the original event and in this episode we don't get that. We also don't get the recap of how it turns out now. The ending really threw me and now I really want to see the next episode. I'm sure that this year will be even better than last year.

I loved the energy in this episode
mhbjc5 January 2024
Maybe it was the anticipation of seeing a new season, but this episode was really good. The team dynamics; Ben being on his own; the mission and deception. The way they solved some of their challenges were innovative and things I've not seen before.

My only critique about this show has always been the poor acting from Caitlin Bassett. Perhaps that is why I really enjoyed this episode because she was not in it? And even though she was not a love interest, I liked seeing Melissa Roxburgh as the commander of the team. I hope there is more like this one in Season 2. Since the show continues, we can assume they find him, so this isn't really a spoiler. And I will suggest, if they can find Ben... maybe, they can find Sam Beckett?

One can hope!

My IQ dropped the longer I watched it.

Warning: Spoilers
I was sceptical when to was announced Quantum Leap was coming back. That said, Series 1 was quite enjoyable. Some episodes were better than others, as you would expect.

So series 2 comes around and this episode is a terrible start. Where do I begin? Firstly, the feminist and gay angles. I have no problem with this when it's done well. However, it is not the case here. Both the female protagonist's battle against sexism and the guy's declaration of loving another man were shoe horned in, and as subtle as a sledgehammer. It doesn't do either cause any favours.

The worst part is the 'action'. The SAM site action is laughable, with the model work making the original Thunderbirds look like Avatar. The soldiers (or is it air force?) staff shouting at each other within ear shot of the SAM site was particularly ridiculous.

There is one point where it looks like the production crew had forgotten to turn the stars on, as all at once, every star in the firmament lights up. Imagine a big piece of black card, with pin pricks in it, and a light bulb being turned on behind it. That's what it looked like.

And there is a particular performer in this who just rehashes their performance from another series they were in.

Please do better Quantum Leap.

Unbelievably stupid writing and plot
VetteRanger6 October 2023
These writers showed pretty much zero understanding of how anything they wrote about works. Plus the entire premise is asinine. You have a supposedly important cargo, so you intentionally fly four planes that might carry it over enemy airspace?

No.

The way they supposedly saved a guy from standing on a pressure plate for a mine? Dumb. Pressure plates don't work the way they supposed. SAMS don't turn around from high in the air to target a fire behind them on the ground. People don't survive the level of plane crash shown with minor scrapes. Trucks don't drive in a straight line on a rough road when you release the wheel. This is really only the tip of the iceberg about how stupid these writers are, but I'm tired of listing the nonsense.

DUMB.

Weaker episode but closer to original recipe
grlym-468498 April 2024
The one thing that I really liked about this episode was it was the closest to the original so far.

None of the huge conspiracy nonsense from the cast in the future. Most of which add very little. And often makes the budget for good acting in the adventure for the episode to be low. Much the case in this one. Plot and script was very weak.

I was not surprised to find out this show was cancelled.

300 filler Appearance. Like octopus and cuttlefish, squid are a type of cephalopod, Greek for "head foot." Behind the animal's head is a soft, elongated mantle: a muscular space containing its organs. Unlike an octopus, which has no skeleton, squid have an internal shell called a gladius, or pen.
