Parviz is a gem of a movie

Parviz - a gentle, unemployed, fifty year old man living with his father - has his life suddenly changed drastically as he is asked to move out of the only home he has known when his father re-marries. Parviz having lead a quite docile and unassuming life now has to try to find his footing in a world where he previously has been more of an observer.

The movie progresses at a slow pace which fits the character portrayed and the story unfolding. The way the director builds tension and challenges the viewers understanding and expectations of people is excellent.

A gem of a movie.

A better "open adaptation"

I think it's overall not a bad movie, and I recently found out that it's actually very similar to the Mexican title "Battle in Heaven (2005)" Even the choice of the actor in particular and the ending are quite similar. And I watched this movie at a premiere with the director and producer present. The thing is, which I find quite hypocritical now in hindsight, that the director after the movie went on a rant about how specific the choice of the actor was, and how much the movie fit him. Which by the way, this is not a commentary on the movie itself.

The movie goes on to provide an interesting story about a neglected/humiliated man that loses sense of morality. Yet, I cannot get over the fact that this movie has so many elements in common with the Mexican title.
