Poorly written, few historical facts
jcravens4222 September 2012
Having lived in Germany for eight years, and having visited Cologne Cathedral a few times (including climbing up the hundreds of steps to the top), I was really looking forward to this special. I always had so many questions I could not get answers to: How was the church paid for? How, in times of poverty and disease, were so many people mobilized to build it? What's the story behind its many windows, including one wall that has not only Old Testament scenes (something quite rare in churches - most limit representations to the New Testament), but representations of non-Biblical scenes, like stain glass pictures representing Earth, Wind, Fire and Water? Where did all that gold come from? But I got no answers with this "documentary." Instead, this is a reverent presentation with statements about magic and curses, rather than facts. I found myself rolling my eyes at some of the more ridiculous statements about supernatural happenings at or because of the church. National Geographic - what happened? When did you stop presenting facts and start presenting religious propaganda?
