Enjoyable episode

Warning: Spoilers
Surprisingly I actually liked the episode. The plot was classic genetic story that wasn't high stakes but it provided interesting plot with car chase scene in the end. The character scene was also fun to watch. As much as I hate the character drama stories, this episode I enjoyed them. Kate&Lucy wasn't bad, I liked that Kate was scared of what will be when her FBI co workers find .out especially if she can still work with Lucy as NCIS liaison it was real. I also liked that little line that her boss thought her BF was a guy normal response and felt real. The other story about Tennant and her son wasn't bad either, yea teen stories are annoying but they played it well not taking the all episode and her son wasn't too annoying.

So far I liked this episode more than the mother show episode of NCIS.

Was OK

I have to ask, who wrote this? Obviously someone who doesn't know their cars. Goof: That was NOT a 350Z, it was a 370Z. Hmmm... Otherwise, good show. Loved seeing the cars on the beach, and the fight scene was well choreographed. There are a few twists and turns, and I love the suspect character, how they determined who the suspect was, and the story. But is popping a wheelie really going to make the bike go faster? I don't think so. It was a semi-exciting scene. The side stories of the characters were well written, it sets up the new season. All in all, I'm excited about this 2nd season.

Now, for the faux singers of the background music... Not so good.

Unresolved ending

Warning: Spoilers
I was enjoying it right until the very end, they presented a question along the lines of "why did she kill him, i guess there's only one person who knows", then they go on a whole chase scene and then doesn't give an answer why. It just immediately cuts to the next scene where they say "she's giving a full confession", like what the hell is that setup with no payoff, beyond lazy writing.

Instead they chose most of the episode to focus on more family and work relationship stuff, which we've already seen loads of, we've already seen conflict between the mother and son, the girlfriend and girlfriend, move on and do something new.

Was there a crime to be solved in this episode?
cpotato101027 September 2022
It was rather hard to tell, what with all of the various personal dramas being dealt with.

I understand that most crime procedurals nowadays have some sub-plots about the private lives of the characters, but with this episode they totally overwhelmed the main plot.

Perhaps if I really cared about the private lives of the characters it would not be so bad, but I nearly fell asleep watching this one, a first for any of the NCIS series.

The only saving grace was the unusual suspect. The character was different from the normal, and I would also like to see more of the person portraying the character.

Maybe next episode the show will get back to something closer to what we expect from a NCIS show.

Trying too hard

Because Hawaii is only on season two, while the other NCIS shows are on season 14 and 20, NCIS: Hawaii should be focusing more on establishing the show and the characters independently, and waiting for drama and stories about the characters until the show is more established and farther in. But I feel like the writers for Hawaii don't realize that they need to establish the show before they get into character drama. The reason the original NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles can do so much character drama is because the shows are so established. NCIS: Hawaii is too new to be so focused on relationships and character families. Let the show develop without making it a soap.
