Mr Bell bans the students from visiting an ice cream van outside the school but that doesn't stop Tom and Zoe-Marie from getting carried away when they sneak out. Dexter tries to get tough with the students including Agness who is not doing her homework but has he misjudged her? Mr Bell has an offer for Miss Poppy that leaves her in an awkward position.

Dexter is put in an embarrassing situation when his dad turns up at the school for a head-teachers' conference - will he discover that Dexter isn't actually an "assistant head-teacher" to Mr Bell? Dexter has also asked the members of the 4 O'Clock Club to look after "flour babies" to teach them responsibility but can they be trusted?

Dexter takes the students out on a half-term field trip to the countryside but it is clear they are not used to a more basic lifestyle. He also has to cope with Mr Thorne who has his PE students on the trip and his own ideas on how things should be done. Mr Bell takes the opportunity of a student-free school to try to impress its new sponsors.

After "achieving" his tenth detention of the term Mr Bell has had enough of Josh and suspends him - unfortunately for him on the very day when a record company representative is due to visit the school as part of its careers day. Aside from Josh the students are less than enthusiastic about the careers day but Dexter appears to have secured the presence of a top employer.

Josh is excited after recording a new track and gets his friends to help him sell it on CDs he's taken from the school. However it's soon discovered he's used the bass-line from another track without permission and they have to get the CDs back before they get into trouble. Meanwhile Dexter is trying to impress WPC Rowe by teaching her the ukulele - but first he has to learn to play it himself.

Mr Bell asks Dexter to present his plans for "Project Zenith" to renovate the school. What he doesn't tell Dexter is that it will involve demolishing the building holding the 4 O'Clock Club, putting luxury apartments in its place, and sending its members to Fowlmere, the worst school in the area. How can Dexter save his reputation and the members of the 4 O'Clock Club?
