Unlike the excellent remake of 'All Creatures Great & Small', I really don't enjoy 'The Larkins' - maybe I'm just cranky like the old vicar, but to me the scripts are mean and make the characters unlikeable so much of the time. The episode title 'Love and Violence' is as spot on as the world's best coconut thrower - I hated the many incidents of cruelty and was tempted to switch off, but there's a 'perfick' scene with Edith Pilchester, illustrating different facets of love and that alone may just keep me watching. The other thing I like about the show in general is the good mix of households - families, adult siblings, spinster, colleagues etc - not many current dramas cover that much variety.
