Losing Its Step
pfc-7706817 July 2022
I have enjoyed SYTYCD for years. The quality of dancers chosen and choreography were key to its success. The judges were experts in the dance styles and techniques. Truly talented dancers were there to learn and grow. Some of the finalists became professional dancers on other shows. Now it seems there is a change in the show's philosophy. I don't know if it's the producers or the judges but it's a misstep in entertainment. The dancers chosen for the top ten were not the best dancers with the most potential in the group. Some of the dancers chosen to leave were excellent but paired with a poor dancer. The dance routines are not as thrilling to watch when performed by dancers that are lacking in true technique and potential. It's nice to give someone less talented that has dreamed of being a professional dancer a chance but it should be a different show.

Why did I watch another episode

Warning: Spoilers
"Dancing can be anything". Said the judges too afraid to tell the large body, short short heels wearing gay white guy from Indiana just how terrible he was.

But had the gall to say NO to the 7th grade teacher who did crunk great. What are we doing here? Please remove Jojo for literally anybody else. An empty chair would be better.

Ghost of the past glories
robert-troy29 May 2022
Big fan of SYTYCD I have put it very high on my short list of best TV shows. The deception this year is abysmal. The first puzzling question the viewer has to address is where is the dance? At this stage of selection we should hear about appreciation of the mastery of technicalities. Nigel and his experienced judges were masters at extracting the potentials, at making us see the diamonds into the rough. None of that this year, just cliches, cries, bozo comments. This make the viewer wondering where the talents are gone? We see advanced aerobics, street acrobaties, clowns, but to the exception of one or two, no talents and no coaching sense. And just to exasperate the audience FOX uses this ghost of the past glories of SYTYCD to propel at tsunami of commercials. Looks like they want to harvest a maximum of money before the show dies. Very sad.
