Warning: Spoilers
And finally we start to get a little bit of answers with this show, or do we? The Consultant really upped the ante here as Craig went out and tried to learn more about his boss Regus Patoff. This led to a shocking discovery that he is a creature comprised of gold bones.

Remember when I said I hoped that this show did not get too weird? Well, it threw all of those notions out the window and went absolutely weird.

Regardless, things got fun here and this show remains such a breeze to get through. Maybe not award-worthy by any means, but an absolute blast to watch this whole thing and how it unravels.

Evil Abundant
Hitchcoc23 November 2023
Craig, calling in sick, decides in his wishy washy way to seek out a man who knows Patoff. He runs a place that does custom jewelry. Craig hears a story of a Satanic man leaves a trail of destruction and hurt wherever he goes. There are conflicts at the workplace as the people there are beginning to go at each other's throats. Craig's fiancee shows up at the place and Craig is off, thinking he will comfortably dig up dirt. The young woman is quite taken with the Boss. For the first time we see that Patoff is incredibly dangerous and vicious. It is obvious that one does not cross him. We also find that there is quite a project going on using gold.

More of a review of the show so far

Warning: Spoilers
This is more reviewing the show up to this point. It's well made with a strong performance from Waltz, and the concept is solid. It's exciting to see a show set in the video game industry. However, characters acting kind of stupid and illogical secrecy make the whole thing feel a bit silly. Like Craig not telling anyone about what happened in the hummer with Regus (and thinking that a child was wrapped up in that sheet, even though it was clearly the size of an adult), or Craig's fiancée seeing his conveniently on the counter phone light up with an Uber notification after he said he was at home at all day, and not just asking him about it and instead deciding to flirt with his boss instead because yeah let's just assume the worst of him lol.

Also the catholic plot line is just kind of bizarre, not that Catholics don't exist of course but I don't know of a single millennial woman in real life that is a devoted catholic, let alone pressuring their significant other to convert before they get married. It just feels like a storyline that belongs in a 1980's show.

Showing that our protagonists are morally gray feels a bit forced too (Craig losing conviction after getting his game greenlit, Elaine using the guy to get his office). It felt more like an unlikely, sudden switch than a subtle change over time. Not that I could do any better... that's why I'm the viewer, not the writer!

Otherwise, The Consultant is intriguing and I plan on finishing it thanks to the performances keeping me engaged. Cheers!
