The Kyuubi's Problem
tomasmmc-771983 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
For some reason, only now Gerotora tells Fukasaku and the Great Old Sage Toad about Jiraiya's late wish. The Sage then asks Fukasaku to call Naruto, so he can give him a prophecy about him, considering the key to the Kyuubi's seal in Gerotora. Meanwhile, at Konoha, Tsunade is recovering while eating large amounts of food. Shizune tries to calm her down, and she is frightened when the Hokage looks at Tonton (like a pig to eat). The blue rombus is back on her forehead, which implies that her chakra reserves are back to normal. Then, Kakashi enters and tells how glad he is about her recovery, as he wasn't meant to be Hokage. Looks like Shizune has updated Tsunade about everything, the Hokage is surprised about the war, the shinobi alliance, and the Raikage's and Tsuchikage's cooperation. She struggles to accept that Madara is alive, and though Kakashi has not certain proofs, his plan seem to confirm it. Aware that the Uchiha's curse is about to reach the whole world, Tsunade orders a meeting as soon as she ends her meal. This part was good by showing Kakashi and Tsunade's talk about the war. Surely she is a better fit than Kakashi to deal with the other Kages and the current situation. Maybe he doesn't want to be Hokage because he still feels pain about what happened to Obito and Rin during the last war. Kakashi can't deal with Iwagakure or Kirigakure I guess. On the other hand, was surprising not to see any Tsunade's question about Naruto. Would have been great to see her proud and happy after becoming the hero of Konoha.

Then, turns out that other persons are thinking about the Kyuubi, besides the toads. Shikamaru talks with Hinata, who tells how she felt Naruto's change when he transformed in the six tailed Fox. She saw that he surrendered to pure hatred, losing his will completely. Shikamaru also remembers a talk with Yamato, who told him that without Hashirama's necklace, he can't block the Kyuubi's seal again if unleashed. Shikamaru ponders that the war will be hard, taking Naruto would a be risk given the Kyuubi. He knows that Naruto is Naruto, so they all must protect him from Akatsuki and the creature. Then, he reaches his father and both enter the meeting Tsunade called. The Hokage, Koharu and Homura are there, and start organizing the preparations for the war. Shikaku asks his son to pay attention, as this situation only happens once, and it's important. The upcoming war is an event that will contradict somehow the plotline about the cycle of hatred. Here, the five nations will join forces against a common enemy. In other words, is a war to maintain the peace around the villages, which is the opposite of what Nagato/Pain wanted. It's like the original goal of Akatsuki changed. This is not for what Kakuzu, Sasori, Hidan, Deidara, fought for. The preparations are well, but I think the upcoming war should be different. On the other hand, it's weird to see Tsunade and the council of Konoha working together. I wonder why it wasn't showed a moment when Tsunade talked about Danzo. His death was easily forgotten. About Shikamaru's thoughts, was great to show him worried. He thinks about Naruto as a friend, and is also aware of the Kyuubi's problem. Like Asuma said, he could be Hokage if he wanted. And well, another good point was to see Hinata's thoughts about Naruto's transformation. Finally she realized the seriousness of the Kyuubi. It's like a side from him she never really knew, and saw. Not anyone can handle that.

The rest of the episode includes a brief scene where Sasuke gets up from the surgery to get Itachi's eyes. Though bandaged and blind, he still can feel the new power, as he tells Obito. Again, it's unbelievable how those eyes, from a deceased sick person who overused the Mangekyo Sharingan, can give power and strength to other person with damaged eyes and overused Sharingan. Going to lightful issues, Karin is being questioned by Ibiki and his colleague. But she tells her personal story as a victim from Orochimaru and Sasuke. The shinobi buys it and cries, while Ibiki remains serious and asks her real information about Akatsuki, Sasuke and Kabuto. She agrees on the condition to give her Katsudon as meal. While the Konoha shinobis discuss where to get it (Ichiraku or somewhere else) to Ibiki's surprise, Karin ponders how everything at Konoha seems joyful and warm, including the shinobi, and the people. She feels that this is given Naruto. It's incredible how Karin talks about the lightful Konoha and Naruto. For some reason, it's like she feels more quiet and happy here than ever. She deserves to remain at Konoha, after all, she was the most innocent member of Taka, the one who didn't kill anyone (seemingly). This makes me wonder how was possible for Kishimoto to put Sasuke back into that warm and joyful Konoha. Boruto really shouldn't exist.

As for Naruto, he walks calmly through the streets of Konoha, being greeted by everyone, who now calls him a hero, and misses him when he is out of the village. Still, he has to escape from Konohamaru, Udon and Moegi, who chase him to get an interview for the newspaper. He is forced to make clones to deceive them, though Konohamaru makes his own sexy clones. At the end, Naruto gets to his favourite place, Ichiraku. Then, happens a nice scene: a pink haired girl with green eyes happily runs towards there, desperately looking for him. Sakura gives him the good news that Tsunade is awake, and he celebrates. Both are really happy, so Teuchi invites the meal for them, but Sakura says she must keep spreading the news. She tells Naruto that she'll see him later, and leaves while he joyfully greets her. I loved this scene, was like the reason for Sakura to recover happiness. The fact that she ran desperately to tell Naruto is really nice, proving once again how strong is their bond, how much they share. As showed in the aftermath of Pain's defeat, both care much and have their special bond with Tsunade. At the same time, it shows that even after all that happened recently, between them there's no anger, or hard feelings. I think it could have been a great moment to talk about their feelings. This was a more appropiate time for Sakura to tell her feelings (which I already explained why are real), and for Naruto to be more relaxed. Here there were no other reasons, or excuses. And it's weird not to show any serious talk between them considering the confession, because she never retired back her words about loving him. Kishimoto ruined many moments between them, but also was showed the chemistry in times like this. I read somewhere that some think of Naruto and Sakura as siblings, but considering the times he asked her out, her occasional blushings, the confession, the confirmation of his feelings by Sai, plus other facts, all implies that they loved each other as a couple. Sometimes, when I look at them, if I didn't know anything at all about Naruto, they look like a couple. She could have been written to stay at Ichiraku, but at the same time, she was happy enough to keep spreading the news, after all, she is not selfish, and surely would go to tell her parents, for instance. Anyway, back into the plotline, Naruto eagerly prepares to eat his precious ramen. But then, he is summoned by Fukasaku, and disappears instantly to Teuchi's eyes. As he closed his eyes to eat, and appeared at Shima's kitchen, he started to ate her special meal of worms, to his dismay. Comic relief. Fukasaku quickly updates him, and takes him to see the Great Old Sage Toad. The ancient, as usual, has to be reminded of who is Naruto (the same happened with Jiraiya). Then, he gives him the prophecy, Naruto is going to meet an octopus at a remote island, and later, he will fight a shinobi with powerful eyes. Naruto obviously guesses the second part (though are showed unnecesary flashbacks), but they know nothing about the octopus (the Sage saw tentacles on his dream). Then, the old Toad asks Gerotora to give Naruto the key to his seal. They explain to him what it is, and the place where he must sign to accept the key. But Naruto starts doubting. This part is clear to the viewer, who already knows Killer B. The idea is that Naruto must learn to control the Kyuubi with Killer B and the Hachibi's guidance. The question here is why Naruto doubts, he should remember his father's wish, where he wanted him to control the Nine tailed Fox. For Naruto, this problem won't disappear unless he dies, he must face it now.
