This is the final episode and continues to have the same problems, no time for explanations like Negan is stabbed in the chest but nothing happens to him, he doesn't bleed, he doesn't feel pain, so why was he stabbed in the first place?, so I think it must be to make Maggie look great and badass. Ginny is a very poorly executed character, with potential, her story doesn't have any impact other than in the last few minutes, where Negan confesses that he killed her father and only for her to leave again, what's the point?, no make sense at all.
Eli Jorne.
He is the showrunner of this tvshow and the problem with this franchise is its writers.
Dead City became a very attractive tvshow since the announcement obviously because of its characters, Negan and Maggie, their interaction worked in the main series but not this spin off and this is the reason;
To recap a bit, the scene where Negan apologizes to Maggie in the main series and then at the end they have a conversation, you can see the pain Negan, he feels regret for he did it, all these feelings and emotions are tied to what he took from Maggie and she understands that Negan is trying. That ending was so important in many ways, Negan knows what he did was wrong and on the other side of the coin Maggie doesn't want to hate Negan anymore for this, but she is willing to try to forgive him, so they both know it won't be easy, but they are aware that they can put their relationship one step further, but all evolution returned to the beginning in this spin off, a serious mistake. Eli Jorne forgot to understand thar Maggie and Negan has at the end of The Walking Dead was start of their relationship going to into a different direction, and this show has failed to capitalize on that in these two characters. To start this final episode, the interactions, revenge, Maggie's anger still feel artificial, the lies, the betrayed, after all these years Maggie hates Negan? Did it take another 6 episodes to realize that Maggie is still emotonional stuck? The attitude Maggie's doesn't feel right, it doesn't make sense after the beautiful ending Angela Kang gave them in the main series, in this show THAT connection was lost.
This plot would have sounded more convincing and realistic, for example: "Negan heard that Hershel was kiddnaped by the Croat, so Negan comes to Hilltop with the plan to help get Hershel back, Maggie a bit doubtful and thanks him but doesn't want to, but Negan insists that she doesn't have to do it alone and that he's there to help her."
This last one makes more sense because it continues in the line of what Negan has done before, Maggie trying to forgive Negan and trust and Negan trying to do things in the best possible way, I would have loved to see this in their relationship, a more normal and realistic way, I think the writers dropped the ball and missed a great opportunity with these two characters, the writers missed to opportunity to explore more of these characters' abilities rather than their weaknesses and traumas AGAIN, more as allies than enemies.
But instead in this spin off we also have Eli Jorne saying that he would deepen the relationship of both characters, but he doesn't do the interaction justice because so many things happen that in each episode, there are 2-3 minutes of dialogue between Maggie and Negan, this isn't going deep at all, so overall it all feels "still" between them, just exhausting.
At this point it feels more refreshing to have Negan and Maggie start a romantic relationship, but it's kind of hard to build, so it would be a tough job for Eli Jorne to pull off and convince the vieviews with this plot, too much for him, so I forget about that possibility.
Season 2: Negan vs Maggie. (The War)
In this episode, it is pretty much clear the direction that they will be taken between these two characters, at some point Eli Jorne will continue milking the moral conflicts that will be presented to the already aged and tired Negan, fighting not to return to the old Negan ways, will he fall and lose forever his redemption arc?. Maggie will continue dragging her trauma with her problematic son, trying to hide or run away, in the middle there will be a war, some battles with increasingly dark scenes, without tension (the zombies are no longer scary), haven't we seen these before? The recipe is old and well-known, but cooked in NYC, I have a feeling and I hope I'm wrong, but if this show doesn't change its direction or its showrunner it will be another failure like Fear the Walking Dead, only now it's on the edge, looking into the abyss, there is still time to be saved it.
