Security Agent Lily Thomas interviews Nicholas Elliott, who's believed to have assisted his friend and fellow Agent Kim Philby, who's believed to have betrayed his country, and defected to Moscow.
Ben Macintyre's novel has been explored before, this is an updated take on The Cambridge Five.
It's a pretty good start, what I'd class as heavy going, quite high brow drama. I'm not sure this first episode is what I'd class as engrossing or captivating, it simply wasn't, but it's well made, and certainly interesting.
I have a feeling it's going to be a slow burner, maybe the pace will pick up a little in the next.
It's an interesting take on the story, with Elliott forced to account for his past actions.
In terms of quality, it put me in mind of The Ipcress File from a few years ago, beautifully shot, with amazing attention to detail, they really did seem to capture the essence and the flavour of the era.
Now, was it me, or did Anna Maxwell Martin's accent jump about a little bit?
Very well acted, Damian Lewis was terrific.
Overall, bit of a mixed bag, I'm sure it'll get better.
6/10.
