You're confused? I'm confused bro!
irinaratcu28 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So we obviously knew we'd get a Season 3 and some things would be unpacked later on. HOWEVER, it's becoming increasingly irritating how so many plot points that were established in the first and second season were left unresolved. Jules, like Kat, is sidelined for no reason and her relationship with Rue - that larger than life, Shakespearian romance for the ages - is reduced to nothing. We have a good (albeit way too long) musical moment for Dominic Fike who was previously established as an agent of chaos, for no apparent reason. But perhaps the most confusing aspect is how the biggest plotline in this season is left up in the air... So here's to spending the next 1-2 years wondering "What about Laurie's money?"

Left hanging for no reason

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is definitely built upon pressure of the renewal of the series for a Season 3. This isn't worthy of being the finale, it feels like an intermission towards the following season so the writers can pick the pieces up later. It does lead to some conclusions, but I was left unsatisfied.

  • that song segment was way too long but I do get the appeal of the scene
  • Ashtray's actions are unexplainable ? Am I missing something ?

  • Rue @ the father memorial scenes are too abundant throughout the show
  • what was Nate going to do with that loaded gun if he already called the cops on his dad

+ good acting + set design + filming.

"Don't Shoot, He's Just A Kid!"

Warning: Spoilers
What an explosive finale!

That was quite the ride. I remember when everyone was doubtful of the direction the series took in early season two. Most people felt that there were too many subplots and the Cassie/Nate relationship was unsatisfactory and meandering. Little did we know it would be critical to the final events of the show.

Euphoria has always been a show about identity and friendship, and this season explored those aspects of the story more than ever before. In this final episode we got to see Nate really find himself, even though it was in a rather horrible way - I think outing his father to the police will have serious consequences for him and his family in season three.

I'm a little disappointed that Maddy seemed to forgive Cassie, lol. Call me bitter but Cassie is a witch of a friend, and I thought that Maddy's resentment toward her might last a little longer. What Cassie did to her own sister was downright despicable, she deserved that beating Maddy gave her and then some.

Lexi put on a great play and I hope Sam Levinson toys with that aspect of her character in season three, it's really cool to see some of those meta stories. Her recollection and capturing of Rue's goodbye to her father was really touching.

Jules is still problematic for me. She didn't grow up with the other girls and she's no longer Rue's love interest, so I wonder what Sam will do with her. Although, Euphoria has become more of an ensemble so separating some of the storylines may not be a bad idea.

The big standout of course, was the SWAT invasion scene. Tragic, just tragic. The visual of the policeman stomping on the card Fez had for Lexi was so arresting. I guess Fexi is no more, he's probably going to jail for a while right?

Something interesting that stood out to me is when Fez screamed, "don't shoot, he's just a kid!" On one level it's a very straight command. But in the context of the show, all of these characters are kids and it's funny how when we're kids we don't really consider the gravity of our choices. Rue didn't consider how her addiction would hurt those closest to her, Jules didn't consider how cheating with Elliot might have destroyed Rue all over again, Cassie didn't consider how her friendship with Maddy would be ruined over Nate, and Ash didn't consider the consequences of killing the rat and shooting at SWAT. There are many examples of this throughout this episode and the season in general. So many of the characters believe they can get away with things simply because they're young, but for us in real life, we know that's just not true. It seems Sam Levinson is trying to teach us something about the ignorance of youth, and I'm here for all of it.

Great episode, however...
nicolasroop28 February 2022
If you thought the last episode was hard to follow, this one is even worse. I kept questioning if something was a part of the play or if we were being shown something else. Again, exquisitely shot and the big blow out with Cassie and Maddie was as exciting as expected. Same with the showdown at Fez's house, went as expected, but was still good and entertaining. Makes me incredibly curious to see what happens in season 3 and where the show can be brought from this point forward. The other part of the episode that I did not like was the soundtrack for this episode. It was difficult coming off of episode 7, which had gorgeous sweeping symphonies and fantastic use of licensed music track to go with the tantalizing imagery on display. Episode 7 was absolutely hypnotic compared to this finale. Main reason why I'm giving it an 8 instead of a 10. Should have made one more episode, and maybe put these last 2 episodes together as the finale. Would've felt more natural in transition and there are still some very unexplained things going on. When is Rue going to get caught up with the lady she owes is probably my biggest question. I mean it's been like 4 episodes since that happened. Something should have happened, but no. Just another loose end.

Angus Cloud (Fez) was so god damn good and suprised me with his acting. My only problem with this episode was the prolonged scene with elliot singing.

Simply great

Warning: Spoilers
It isn't a perfect finale, but the best moments of the episode were excellent.

I loved the last conversation between Rue and Lexi and I hope this means we'll get more Lexi in the now-confirmed season 3. By the way... Maude Apatow was excellent. Zendaya and Sweeney have been my favorite performances in this whole season, but Maude was seriously excellent in these last two episodes. I have to admit that all of the screen time Rue and Lexi shared made me ball a little...

Cassie's tangent, and Maddie getting into a cat fight with her, was pushed to the side and I was pretty okay with that. It's such a huge focus this season and it ended about how I expected.

Nate's stuff was fine. His arc ends in a place that'll keep viewers guessing about his role in the future of the show.

The whole Ashtray thing was certainly unexpected and dare I say thrilling. I personally prefer all of the actual high school drama stuff, but I do love Fez. Emotional.

I guess Jules and Elliot didn't get huge arcs toward the end. I loved their episode (4 I think it was), but I'd like to see what happens next.

I think all of the grief stuff, and Lexi's much deserved development, are really what made this episode for me. Everything is left very open for the next season, so not a ton of closure, but it was enough for me.

Good season, one I liked a tad more than 1.

Beautiful, powerful, and shocking season finale
UniqueParticle28 February 2022
This has been one of the best seasons of a series I've seen in a long time! Damn I love the direction of the suspense and glorious emotions that flow throughout. Jacob Elordi, Angus Cloud, Sydney Sweeney along with everyone else are all captivating amazing actors! Crazy episode I didn't expect some of it; it's all electrifying regardless of the madness.

Great episode with one big problem

It would've been assured 10 star episode except that they gave Elliot that ultra boring five minute song break. Talk about bringing an episode to a crashing halt.

Uneven
bbevis-4795428 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A few decent scenes interspersed throughout obnoxious pacing decisions. Elliot's song, the repetition of the play setting and funeral sequences and a few forced moments made the finale uneven in my opinion. Ash's death felt forced. The tension was there but the decision for Ash to stab the guy came completely out of the blue. The overtop shootout feels like it belongs in another series. Cassie's freakout was hard to watch and the suspension of disbelief required in order to believe a high school play would continue after this is asking a lot. Nate and Cal have a reunion that lacks the emotional gut punch it needs. Maddie and Kat are sidelined with no growth throughout the season.

Luckily Lexie finally gets her due and Maude Apatow does a good job with the time her character is given to shine. Lexie and Rue's conversations, while slow, were emotional for me. Overall, I'm not impressed with where Euphoria decided to spend it's time in the finale. A lot of what happens in the finale feels force and pretentious. Add in the odd decision to completely kill any sort of pacing thirty minutes in, leaving a lot to be desired for the inevitable Season 3.

Season 2 won me over.
rmkellync28 February 2022
Really well done. This whole season. I don't love love this show, I hated it for a minute. This season was really good. Great development among the characters that allowed for investment whenever and wherever the viewer wanted it. Your opinions on the characters can vary dramatically from episode to episode, three friends watching can walk away thinking something different. Blah.

So this episode. We all cried. If you've lost someone, you probably cried. If you're under 40 and lost a parent, you cried. If you saw the Shakespearean setup that was going to play out with the sword of Damocles ending of the Fezco storyline of the last episode, it was better than I thought. What I expected was CLOSE but I was wrong. It was a very well done scene. Top notch.

The play: for me, I would have done the play as one long episode - that's just me. Loved it, like everything else in this show: over the top, dark, funny, on point, thematically correct for the show and where the story was at this point. As a theatre kid from a lifetime ago, anyone who was, you laughed at how stupid the production and its billion dollar budget with no oversight at all is: suspension of disbelief is a key part of euphoria

Nate: PlushCare has counseling services and you can get meds for some of these issues.

Mackay: did you go to Europe to fight Putin? Where'd you disappear to?

Nate's dads posse: dude put a shirt on, that guy. You know which one.

Lexi: you're amazing, Maude: you're amazing. Just can't say enough.

The ensemble, I could rave about each girl, maddie's shoe - that's all I want to say. Shout out to all the great young actors, the young Black girl playing the stage manager is a star waiting in the wings.

Love her, hate her: zendaya is here and she's going to remain on the radar. I'll be watching to see what she does, Break more legs.

Lastly: to everyone's favorite white boy Fezco, you're my boy. I see you. I get you. I know "that" guy, he's been one of my best friends for 20 years.

Fantastic season, I have eaten and will continue to eat crow.

Feels like episode 8 of a 10 episode season
kikilangmore3192 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This would have been a great episode in the season, if it wasn't the finale. The season just feels unfinished because of all of the loose ends. I am one of euphorias biggest fans, but I was definitely disappointed. There were a lot of story lines that were needing to be wrapped up, but instead it wasted time on things that we either didn't need, or could wait for season 3 (Elliot's unbearably long song). The music, cinematography, acting and atmosphere of euphoria is sublime, I'm never let down in that department. I think one of the big problems is that the show has a way of building lots of things to be important, and so we wait for it to dive deeper. It builds things up that have no reason to be, like Nate taking the gun and threatening his dad when he had already called the police on him. The scenes with Jules and Elliot are irritating because they've made us upset with these characters, and then expect us to care about them just because it's the finale. It's as if Jules doesn't have a storyline outside of her relationship with rue, and Elliot was only there to wreak havoc on the both of them.

List of loose ends (it might seem like I'm being tough on the show, but it's only because I know it's potential and had such high expectations)

-how was rue able to get clean? What happened to her at Laurie's? Did the cops really never connect her to the break in? (you have to remember she committed grand larceny)

-where is Laurie? Rue says she "stayed clean the rest of the school year" so Laurie never tried to get her 10k back? Is she really as dangerous as she was built up to be if she just floats 10k for no reason? We could wait for season 3 but why would that make sense?

-where is Samantha? What purpose did she serve, besides talking to Maddy in the pool? What was the point of the obvious sexual tension between them? Was her giving Maddy the purpose dress really the only reason we saw the camera in the clock?

-what happened to fez and faye?? Why in the world did ash do what he did in the bathroom? Did he just want to die? Avoid jail? Why would ashtray start shooting through a door that he knows fez is on the other side of? What was Lexis reaction to fez being shot?? What is happening with grandma now?? Was her only purpose in the season fez backstory?

-why does Cassie feel guilty one minute, and call Maddy the C word the next minute? She's constantly flipping her moral values. Is Maddy going to try to be friends with Cassie again, or is she just being the bigger person?

-where did kats cam career go? Sure she was dating Ethan, but to just not mention it until episode 7 in a confusing way that may or may not be Nate's dream sequence seems redundant since we gave up on that plot line a while ago.

-where's Leslie? Where's Gia? Where's Ali? Where's Jules dad? In fact, where are all the parents (besides suze lol)?

A lot of these things could be answered in season 3, but we have to remember all the plot lines abandoned from season 1, and realize that we most likely won't get closure on most of these things. In case you forgot about how many plot lines were abandoned, here's a bit of a refresher.

Abandoned plotlines from S1 -Jules/Nate relationship -Cals "meet ups" -MCKAY -Cassie's abortion -Jules journey with her gender identity -Nate's sexuality -the jacobs family third brother from the family photo (really upset this wasn't visited) -TYLER CLARKSON -Daniel

I think the reason this upsets me so much is because I know if the show had went a different route with season 2, they could have made it the last one and if done right, could have gone down in history as one of the best shows of all time. Now, I fear, that even if season 3 is even better than season 1, it won't matter.

Season 3 wont come out until 2024, at which point the actors will no longer look like high schoolers (Alexa demie will be 33 years old). They could make it college age, or not in the setting of a high school, but then it wouldn't even be the same show anymore, and everything we originally loved about it will certainly change shape.

It just wasn't that good
cvx22328 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Writing this review makes me sad because I really liked the first season and the first half of season 2. After Rue's chase episode the season just went downhill. So many characters and plot lines just weren't finished and the show focused solely on shock value. Cassie going up on stage in the middle of a play to humiliate her sister..? The unnecessary shoot out scene? I mean seriously what is this? I also really don't like how so many characters were completely butchered this season, in particular Jules and Kat. After this episode it is clear that this show focuses on shock value and not actually following through with plot development. Although this season had some really great moments, overall it was a miss for me.

How are we supposed to wait 2 years?
peerawat201028 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Last episode, I wrote a review stating my concern that they would not be able to wrap everything up in one episode. Unfortunately, I was right.

Don't get me wrong. This isn't a bad episode. It just doesn't feel like a season finale to me. It's like a normal episode where we have to wait a week to see another one, whereas infact, we need to wait 2 years. This is so unfair.

----Spoiler Alert----- It's sad to see Cal go. I know he's not a good man, but I love his character, as well as the actor playing him. What hurts me the most is that Fez didn't even have a chance to talk to Lexi. All those built-up was for nothing. Now, I can only hope I won't be teased again next season.

Loved season 2 and this finale
cameronjames-8695928 February 2022
If I'm gonna be honest I honestly think season 2 is better than season 1 and not only did this finale blow me alway but it shows how brilliant Sam is. If you didn't care for season 2 then that's your opinion but I don't think there was a full episode this season and this finale didn't have a full moment either. I personally can't wait for season 3 and to see where they take this fantastic show.

Somewhat underwhelming finale
juan_buenafe28 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Really looked forward to the finale after the aftermath of last week's ep. It's still a good episode but i feel like the build up was too big for it to just end this way. Aside from the Fez and Ashtray scenes which were brilliant, the rest of the storylines were pretty dissapointing. I specifically expected more from the Nate / Cal + Cassie / Maddy storyline. Also think some scenes took too long like Elliot's song and Rue and Lexi's dialogue, while the Jules part felt forced. As the credits rolled, i thought "that was it?" Still good but expected something bigger since it won't be another year till another episode. Though i think the bar has been set too high after ep 5,6,7.

"Really Beautiful"
CulvertonSmith28 February 2022
I love everything with Rue, there's just so much emotional realism and depth. That's what I come to this show for, and it really delivered this week. The same is true for Lexi, her scenes were fantastic and brought me to tears in a couple of moments. The only part I'm not fully certain about is the Fezco/Ashtray stuff. This show can push believability in places because of its emphasis on emotional realism over realism itself, I'm just not sure if they balanced that fully in those scenes. I'll have to see how it sits with me. Overall it was a great and captivating conclusion to an incredibly entertaining and emotionally devastating second season. I had a blast, and I can't wait for Season Three.

Phenomenal
leanne-elizabeth8 March 2022
A lot of people hating on Elliot playing the guitar but I thought it was beautiful. I think it was particularly poignant as it was the first time for a while that was Rue was able to appreciate and feel the emotion that music and art are able to offer; same with Lexie's play. She wasn't so off her face that she couldn't feel anything. She could finally let out the emotion out, feel it, revel in it and realise that although some emotions can be painful and dark, some emotions can be warm, hopeful and beautiful and they're the ones worth fighting for. Exceptional acting, exceptional writing, music, cinematography, direction, just superb.

Walking on paper
edwhilt28 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
My title, Cassie walking on the playbill. The pigs walking on Lexi's letter. Small detail, but captured why I have to give the finale a 10, balance, symmetry, reflection.

Watch with a keen eye...the cops at Cal's and Fez, lexi and rue's fathers, the songs from rue and ole boy, Jules coming to sew rue, rue going to see ole boy.

My friends that's world class writing.

I don't understand why everyone is hating on the finale
funnycommentor4 March 2022
The plot of the final episode was interesting and well-written. Rue, she seemed way better and I hope she won't relapse again. Jules, I hope she's gonna be on season 3. Nate, I hope he will get what he deserves on season 3. Maddy, she was iconic. Cassie, I feel so sad about her, she totally needs psychiatric help. Kat, she didn't had much screening time. Lexi, she was the highlight of the last 2 episodes. Fez, I admire his braveness. Faye, she was a likeable character and I want to see more of her. Elliott, I don't think he's gonna be back. Overall, the second season was really good and I enjoyed it. Last but not least, the ending scene was very emotional and I can't wait for the third season!

I think it could have been better
mpboylanjr-5403828 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First I'd like to start by saying I think this season was amazing, but I have to agree with the people who don't think the finale was all that great or fit with the rest of the great season. The whole shoot out at Fezcos with Ash was a bit much, and not necessary. I feel like we didn't really close out the season with answered questions, but really more. I get that they need to set the table for season 3 , but I felt kind of empty at the end of the episode. I feel like we watched to much of Rues fathers funeral, and we watched the same thing we did the previous 2 episodes. All in all a sloppy episode. Euphoria was still excellent this season, but finale definitely fell short, and although I wanted to love the finale I just really didn't.

I loved season 1 and now I'm sad this was so terrible.
threeeyedrose28 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A pretty lackluster finale for an unnecessarily bad season.

First off, my major critique is the way Sam Levinson has ruined Jules's character. Jules, who is meant to be the second lead, has done nothing this season except act in an uncharacteristically shallow way that neglected all her previous development, and thats when she even had screentime (she was basically absent for the season finale!). She had a whole special episode dedicated to how she has recognised her place within the world as a woman seeking to achieve femininity and realised that she isnt even interested in men anymore, and then she cheats with Elliot. Its insane and frankly disgusting. Not the cheating, but the way Sam thinks this is something she would do. Such a waste for what I think was the show's strongest character, of the same echelon as Rue.

Cassie was also ruined but in a different way, where she still had some intriguing scenes but was completely transformed into a heartless monster; an abrupt transition that made no sense. Yes, Cassie craved male love, but in season 1 they did a pretty good job of showing she would never hurt those she loves on purpose over it, and when she does, it wrecks her. It also sucks that the only way Sam could give Maddy an interesting arc this season was by doing everything he can to make Cassie as whiney and unlikeable as possible. If you ask me, questionable writing.

Lexi was okay this season. I'm not really digging the "stepping out into my spotlight" shtick she's had going on this season as much as everyone else but I think Maude's done well with what she was given. I also think her friendship with Fez was cute and gave him a reason to be on-screen for non-drug related reasons... must be refreshing for him.

Kat was like Jules but times 1000. You'd have to have a personal vendetta against this woman in order to purposefully ruin her character THIS much. I don't even want to get into it. Ethan was good though.

Elliot.... yeah anyways.

The Jacobs family storyline(s) was interesting but slightly fizzled out by the finale. When it was finally getting interesting with Cal drunkenly spouting harsh words at the Jacobs clan, we dont even get a proper scene between any family members until the finale where Nate confronts Cal and has him arrested (well, maybe the scene with the mom and Nate but c'mon... thats 1 scene).

Season 1 was almost entirely driven by the Jules and Nate (and Cal) storyline, and it is genuinely bad writing that it was simply ignored this season until one scene in episode 7 where Nate gives Jules "the disc". Just.... wow.. what is Sam doing?

In summary: 1. You've ruined Jules and possibly lost the most interesting and complex character this show had, 2. You've totally ignored the first season when it came to the characters' progressions, and it was visible from the very start of this season, 3. Your writing has gone down significantly, and having obnoxiously-long musical score scenes where Labrinth makes an appearance in Rue's drugged out fantasy or Elliot singing,,, simply does not count as good storytelling.

Season one was truly good. But this season has been an exercise in frustration. Whats the point in even watching the next season if this is how its going to be from now on?

Euphoria High has a Massive Theater Budget
mgeoffreyking5 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There are ups and downs to this episode. It is certainly entertaining, beautifully shot, and well acted. The play scenes were crafted nicely, delivering an intriguing style of screenplay. I will say, however, that the whole premise of an ultra-realistic play - performed at a high school where students are exposed about vulnerable and explicit topics - is not very believable. I give some leeway to creative direction, but if we are being even the slightest bit realistic, no high school would allow that. Not to mention, the show continuing after students literally assaulted each other on stage requires a lot of imagination.

Another issue I have is with Ashtray. The whole approach to handling that situation was far away from any rational thought process. He is a kid (a smart one), but that doesn't mean he should have so low sense of consequences to where he spontaneously murders someone, then pulls out a gun and shoots up a SWAT team. It did make for a gripping scene, but it also made me disappointed in his character development.

Despite these flaws, the episode was still good. I feel that it did what it needed to do, progressing the story (for the most part) in a positive direction. I would argue that season two, while suffering some pacing issues at times, packed a solid punch in the series.

7.5/10.

Euphoria is on a whole other level
aboalhyjaa28 February 2022
Amazing cinematography, soundtracks and background music!

The way they just move between the scenes and talks in real life and the theater and is just outstanding!

The philosophical talks that Rue speaks or thinks just assure and reassure that euphoria is not your typical drama/teen show.

Cassie got a bit of what i think she deserves, Maddie got her revenge? Idk. Rue is getting better and better and Nate just showed us the true personality of his and not like he was playing people in the last 2 episodes.

What happened to Fez? And did Lexi know? Im afraid thats whats going to make me up in night till season 3.

And again, this is one of the greatest episodes of euphoria yet and definitely a great finale.
