Season Two Review
southdavid6 October 2022
"Industry" first came to my attention as part of the Guardian's best TV of 2020 list. I enjoyed it, though I did think that the both the explicit nature of the sex and drugs, and the fact that essentially all the characters are quite unlikable might have shaken off some of the potential audience. Delighted that a second season has come our way in 2022 and is perhaps even better than the first.

Covid and Brexit have driven Pierpoint to the decision to close either the London or New York Offices. Harper (Myha'la Herrold) has been working in almost complete isolation at a hotel but is encouraged to return to work by Eric (Ken Leung) in order to raise her profile. However, she hopes to make herself indispensable by landing reclusive Billionaire Jesse Bloom (Jay Duplass) as a new backer. Yasmin (Marisa Abela) gets an opportunity to move into the client relationship side of the business, but her father returns to her life, opening old wounds.

Though it's definitely still an ensemble, more so even than last season the focus of this storyline is Harper and her relationships, professional and otherwise. Yasmin probably has the second most screen time with Gus, played by David Jonsson and Robert, played by Harry Lawtey reduced to only really featuring in particular episodes. The other new member of the cast is Alex Alomar Akpobome, who joins as Danny, across from New York to promote harmony as the decisions about the future are made.

I know the creators were unsatisfied with their story for the first season, though I enjoyed it, this is better though, with a plot of shifting loyalties, backstabbing and corruption that "Billions" would be proud of. I still don't really understand the specifics of what's happening half the time, but the show does an excellent job of explaining to you what you need to know, He needs this to go down, but it's going up, that sort of thing.

Good performances and plotting make "Industry" as show I hope we'll get more of. Though I'm slightly concerned about whether the seeming lack of buzz about it, is translating into enough viewers for it to continue.

Harper's Ferry Ride. Board with Caution.

Warning: Spoilers
How would season 2 end? What cliffhanger would hook us into an inevitable season 3?

Here's what we thought would happen. From the penultimate episode 7 it was seemingly clear that Harper's bold move to poach Eric, Rishi and Danny into a new firm was inevitable. Her business relationship with Bloom was stuck in limbo and it seemed like mending it was the only obstacle. This issue was addressed fairly early on so we could see the puzzle pieces coming together.

Chess pieces were being moved, some actions made illegally. Fine, it's the nature of the industry. And then we wanted to see "who's coming with me?" It was exciting to see the foreshadowing of the other characters' possible role in the coup.

In no particular order, the final episode of season 2 sets up the notion that the rest of the players are making a change (whether on their own or by force), and that they might join Harper and "her crew."

Yasmin found out some personal information relating to her father and Celeste leading to doubts and her eventual departure...and getting cut off. Yikes!

Gus gives in to Harper's demand for information regarding Bloom and his intentions. This led into Bloom subtly (on live TV) reaffirming Harper that he's still with her. As good as that sounded, it was ultimately his demise and now he's in need of a new job. Insider trading ensued.

Rob was a mess and challenged with getting over the indecencies of his client Nicole while still keeping his job. And he got arrested for a bag of drugs, which he was buying for Yasmin. Nicole bails him out, thus solidifying their business relationship. It was a sad story line to say the least. So he's out of the running for Harper's venture

A meeting with Harper, and her trusted mentor and advisor Eric, with Bill Adler took place. It's there that Rishi and Danny were thrown under the bus. So they're out, right?

Then we had Harper and Eric. Neither of them wanted to go to NY. Eric would have to move his entire family/life, and to Harper, going back to NY was nothing but a failure for her. The plan seemed to be working.

At that point in the plot it suggested that Harper and Eric, sans Danny and Rishi, would then create a dream team, get Yasmin and Gus on board and season 3 would be greatly about the new regime.

What happened? I won't spoil the last part. The final scenes are something I cannot explain. Watch the entire episode and let me know your thoughts.

Best episode of the entire series

Warning: Spoilers
Wow love the writing on this episode, the show at its twisting, backstabbing best. This episode felt like several episodes in one, definitely warrants a re-watch.

As a 'retail trader' myself, I loved all the references to the retail trading mania of the last two or so years this season. Meme stocks, crypto, short squeezes, perfect content for Rishi's banter (btw loved his elevated role this season). The writers responsible for the trading floor scenes took it to a new level this season, and this is what puts this season well above the first, for me.

What encapsulates it best though, my favourite part of the entire season, is Jesse Bloom. He is da man. Degen plays and all. And he was so good in this final episode. Loved his crib! Loved how he took two seconds to put the pieces together and hatch his Rican/FastAide pair trade scheme that would play out live on CNN - the best scene in the series. Loved the happy ending we got with his son and new employee.

I'd just finished watching the episode as I write this, my first ever review. Still need to process what Eric did to his Harpsichord at the end there. Real wtf scene.

Really hoping for a season three.

Finally?
antoniocamierasjaen13 August 2023
Now we are talking, within the las 2 or 3 episodes, the show finally starts. There's a real plot here, with real characters that make compex plays and decisions, and are faced by significant problems. No more scenes of doing coke every 2 minutes, and no more 3 minutes porn scenes every episode, because you know, they thought it was fun or relevant i guess?

Have good hopes for the Season 3, they have done a great job closing season 2, considering they didn't build anything during the whole show. Don't know if there's been a writers or production change, but congrats for their work and keep it up!
