The episode begins with the revelation that someone has died.It tries to make you think it's going to be Martha but it's no surprise that it's actually dispensable ex-regular Chloe, which is a bit of a slap in the face to fans who were enjoying having her back. The moment is, however, sold by a truly traumatised scream from Lynne McGranger as Irene, even if it does seem a bit random.
There's some nice stuff from the regulars in the midst of all this: Alf's irrational guilt, Ric's need for reassurance, Sally's quiet reassuring presence. The aftermath of the crash is done well, despite the desperate misdirection of the group having to move Kim only for Alf to not take advantage of the new access for about five minutes. But it's hard not to be left with a bad taste in your mouth as an episode of nostalgia is followed by an episode that uses the show's history for cheap drama.
