Meh Paring (5/10).
rylandixon0714 October 2023
Gary In Love Was An Amazing & Heartwarming Episode As The Best S7 Episode. 1 Coarse Meal On The Other Hand, Is Easily 1 Of The Worst Episodes From This Season, & Entire Series. Not The Absolute Worst (That Would Be Yours, Mine, & Mine). Overall, I Give The Paring (50/100). Because I Rate These Episodes.....

1 COARSE MEAL: ABYSMAL EPISODE (0/100). WHY DOES THIS EPISODE EVEN EXIST?! ABYSMAL EPISODE ALL THE WAY THROUGH!!!!! #5 WORST SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS EPISODE IMO!!!!!

GARY IN LOVE: Fabulous Episode (100/100).

Also, That Scene In Gary In Love With The Mean Snails, Where They Go To The Park To Find Gary. That Snail Said A Funny Quote That Got Me Laughing So Hard. Here's The Quote.

"Hey. What Youse Giggling At? THEYSE GIGGLING AT ME! ALRIGHT, THAT'S IT! YOUSE ALL GOING ON MY LIST.".

Oh... My god...
oddimations21 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
So, Mr. Krabs, the protagonist on a children's television show, psychologically torments Plankton, the antagonist on the same television show, to the point where he commits suicide... On a children's television show... Seems legit. Except that it doesn't. Mr. Krabs doesn't even get a punishment! He doesn't get anything!

SPOILER ALERT:

Oh, wait. There's the mime. 2 more points. This entire episode was terrible. You can't repair it! Maybe you can, just a little bit... But you probably couldn't get away with it on a kid's show. Courage the Cowardly Dog was the only cartoon that did it... So, I don't think season 7 SpongeBob can. M Hall out.

Gary In Love was good, but One Coarse Meal isn't
kaimoney11 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
One Coarse Meal is the worst Spongebob episode. It has Plankton being tormented by Mr Krabs by having him disguise himself as Pearl to scare Plankton because Plankton is afraid of whales. Which right off the bat doesn't make sense. Plankton has met Pearl before and wasn't scared of her. Oh but then there's the infamous suicide joke where Plankton lays down in the road waiting for a bus to run him over. And just for insult to injury, Mr Krabs gets a happy ending even though he caused all this to happen. Man screw this episode, I will never watch it ever again.

Gary In Love was cool. Gary falls in love with another snail but some tougher snails try to stop him. It was a fun episode honestly.

So I recommend that you watch Gary In Love and not One Coarse Meal.

Just absolutely sickening.
texman-7557130 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Since IMDb is not allowing my original review to be said, One Coarse Meal is without a doubt, the worst episode of this show I have ever seen in my life. There is nothing else to say about this, it make A Pal For Gary look fine in comparison and really shows that no one likes Mr. Eugene H. Krabs for what he has done to Plankton with torture and for the whole town as a whole for getting no consequences for what he's done to a once friend now foe. He should be executed for this and never do anything to him again.

Absolutely deplorable, Nickelodeon should be condemned for their actions
basato9218 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
When I was a kid Spongebob used to be one of my favorite cartoons of all time. I still to this day consider the first 3 seasons to be a good example of animated excellency. Sadly, like Pokemon and the Simpsons, it has gone on far too long and the decline of quality is apparent.

Most post movie Spongebob episodes have the following problems; the characters have been flanderdized to the point of unlikeability and unrecognizability and the plots are bad with no regard to logic and continuity. One Course Meal is the perfect representation of these problems.

Here's the jist of it; Krabs discovers Plankton's fear of whales (which contradicts early episodes when he showed no fear of Pearl), Krabs decides to dress up as Pearl to scare him, Plankton gets incredibly paranoid to the point where he decides to commit suicide. Oh it gets worse. Spongebob, who doesn't bat an eye, brings this up to Mr. Krabs, does he feel bad about it? Actually no, he laughs at the idea. Just wait a bit more, it gets worse. Spongebob tells Plankton that Krabs is afraid of mimes, so at first it seems like Krabs was getting his just deserts. But for no reason whatsoever, Spongebob uses a projector to display whales to scare Plankton off, betraying him in the process.

So lets recap, Mr. Krabs, one of the main characters, takes delight in scaring someone to the point of paranoia, PTSD and SUICIDE to the point of laughter. Spongebob betrayed Plankton after offering to help him for no logical reason. The clear cut ANTAGONIST of the episode is never punished for his heinous actions.

In the early seasons he was a greedy, cheap douche but he still compensated his employees, treated people OK and even at his worst was still funny. What the hell happened? Remember, Plankton was Mr. Krabs' best friend. I don't recall Krabs even having malicious intent towards Plankton, he was just trying to protect his livelihood. On top of being morbid, it's also filled with plot holes.

Let me say this, I'm not one of those PC assholes who thinks that topics like suicide, rape and other things should not be joked about. On the contrary I would find such jokes hilarious as long as they're both funny and not incredibly mean spirited. After all, I'm a fan of Looney Tunes, South Park and other cartoons that have that kind of humor. The thing is this episode was completely unfunny and mean-spirited. Keep in mind that these actions were done by the PROTAGONISTS of the show that we're meant to root and that they're NEVER punished for their actions like any show would. Keep in mind, Spongebob is a KIDS SHOW! How did they get away with this in today's incredibly PC world? Do you know how many cartoons go unaired, censored or cancelled for content like this. And Spongebob is one of the most popular cartoons in the world, you're telling parents didn't take notice of this? This should've been national news, Nick should've been crucified by the media for this.

This is incredibly irresponsible on their part too. Someone had to WRITE the script of this episode, some had to APPROVE the script, then proceed to ANIMATE this and the voice actors had to PROVIDE the voices for this. Not to mention Nick themselves had to give this the go ahead to air it.

Does anyone on Nick pay attention to the news? Have they heard of the stories where kids, Nick's main demographic, commit suicide over bullies tormenting them, the exact thing Krabs did to Plankton? Look, if you like current Spongebob, I'll disagree with you, but I can see where you're coming from if that's your type of humor. But I'm pretty we can all agree that this episode is disgusting, deplorable and irresponsible.

As much as I blame Nick for this travesty, I blame the parents and anyone who still supports Nick financially. How can you continue to support a company that glorifies such sociopathic behavior without punishment no less? If you share my disgust, I urge you to boycott Nickelodeon entirely until they are forced to publicly apologize. Don't buy their merchandise, don't watch their shows on TV or Netflix, don't watch the new Spongebob movie, because they do not deserve it and you know. If Mr. Krabs won't be punished for his actions, we can still punish Nick for their glorification of it.

It horrifying that Nickelodeon thinks driving someone to suicide is funny.
kingdomkeymaster6 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
After viewing this episode, I question the writers mental health and sanity. What happens in this episode is just god awful. So we begin with Mr. Krabs bathing in money until he smells something weird. He goes into the kitchen to ask Spongebob what the smell is. Spongebob assumes it's an explosive. Sure enough, Plankton comes flying in, when he drops a missal. The missal doesn't go off, instead, the missal traps Spongebob and Mr. Krabs. Plankton then asks where the formula is. No answer from Krabs. So Plankton tickles Spongebob and he says where it is. In comes Pearl, asking for mall money. Plankton is scared of Pearl because he "saw a documentary on what whales eat" and he lost his ancestors due to them being eaten by whales. I guess it's legal to eat one another in Bikini Bottom. Now... writers of this episode, whales do not eat plankton. They eat krill. So once Mr. Krabs finds out that Plankton is scared of whales, he asks Pearl to scare Plankton on her way to the mall. She says that she will, only if she gets more mall money. Mr Krabs denies the offer, and asks if he can borrow one of Pearl's dresses. Plankton runs home to the Chum Bucket and reveals what happened to his ancestors (as stated before). Karen, being the way she always is, says that this is all just "some delusional paranoia". She tells Plankton to take out the trash. As Plankton goes to take out the trash, he gets scared by "Pearl" (Mr. Krabs in disguise.). Plankton barricades himself inside the Chum Bucket, only to realize "Pearl" is right behind him. How "she" got through the barricade.. I have no idea. Plankton runs to tell Karen that there's a whale in the Lab. By the time Karen and Plankton return to the lab, "Pearl" is already gone. So Karen leaves to go do.. whatever. Plankton protests but Karen sings "I'm not listening~". After (insert title card here) '16 Paranoia filled days later', yes Krabs has been scaring/torturing Plankton for over 2 weeks, Plankton has become a mess. He has a long, grey beard, same goes for hair, he has untrimmed nails that are superbly long, and he's wearing tissue boxes on his feet-nubs. Plankton breaks down into tears, and Krabs is looking through the window, noticing he's crying, and begins laughing. Yes, he thinks torturing someone is hilarious. This episode gets worse. The screen cuts to Plankton, sleeping on a steel bed for some reason, having a nightmare. In the nightmare, he is being chased by a monstrous looking Pearl. He gets swallowed, and meets his deceased relatives. Plankton walks up to meet them, and he's been halfway dissolved in stomach acid. The bottom half of him is now bone. He screams in agony and Pearl laughs demonically. Plankton wakes up and begins to cry saying that "He can't take it anymore". Mr. Krabs, again, is looking through Plankton's window.. laughing. The next day, Spongebob is mopping the floor of the Krusty Krab, when he hears Plankton crying, and saying "What's the point of going on anymore? I'll just be tortured for the rest of my life by that whale." Planktom hits himself, and lies in the road. He says "That's it. I give up." Here comes Spongebob to ask what Plankton is doing. You ready for this? Plankton then yells "Go away Cheesehead! Can't you see I'm trying to get run over?!" Yes, Mr. Krabs has psychologically tortured Plankton to the point where he's trying to commit suicide. Plankton then asks Spongebob to step on him as hard as he can. Spongebob says he can't due to his "good nature". But yet, he doesn't even talk Plankton out of killing himself. Spongebob then confronts Mr. Krabs. Krabs drew a picture of Plankton, then erased it, then proceeded to say "Goodbye, you little pipsqueak. Ahahahaha!" Spongebob proceeds to tell Mr. Krabs that Plankton is lying down on the street—for loin. Mr Krabs gasps, and says "Really? He's a mess!" and begins laughing. Yes, he thinks suicide is funny. So pretty much, Mr Krabs is in the process of murder. Spongebob then asks if Krabs putting on a costume, just to scare him, is taking things to far. Krabs then reminds Spongebob that all this happened because Spongebob leaked the location of the formula. Spongebob then decides to try and fix things. Plankton is still lying in the street, trying to die, when Spongebob comes up to him to explain that Krabs was scaring him the whole time. Plankton is now furious. Spongebob then tells Plankton that Krabs is scared of mimes. With this new-found knowledge, Plankton is no longer scared of Pearl or Mr Krabs. He walks into the Krusty Krab and traps Mr. Krabs. Plankton then brings in a mime as karma. Plankton then realizes that a group of whales are outside, and gets scared off. Spongebob then reveals the projector, and frees Krabs. The end. Nickelodeon has a sick, twisted, and sadistic way of "comedy". I lost all hope in Nickelodeon after seeing such an episode. Who on Earth would find this episode funny?! This episode should be banned.

The most godawful episode of SpongeBob to hit Nickelodeon
fardawg-705093 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I thought A Pal For Gary was bad, but this episode is in its own league of terrible. It actually makes A Pal For Gary look okay in comparison. I am actually really impressed by how they got away with this rotten cow pie on Nickelodeon, including a very unsubtle suicide joke! I've got to say that's a huge achievement. Congrats? I even lost respect for Mr. Krabs in this episode after he showed pride in his competitor attempting to commit suicide. Mr. Krabs was already a bad character, even worse than modern Patrick, to begin with. Another question is... why the hell is Plankton afraid of Pearl? Dammit, he met her in the Algae's Always Greener, and he was just irritated. But in this heaping pile of garbage, Plankton is legitimately terrified. There are a lot of godawful episodes in SpongeBob, but this has crossed the line. This rivals Family Guy: Brian's a Bad Father and American Dad!: American Fung! Nickelodeon, don't ever let something like this ever escape from the devil's anus ever again!

Just as bad as A Pal for Gary and Keep Bikini Bottom Beautiful
mwcrunner3 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
First off, why does One Coarse Meal even exist?! This episode should be banned from TV for life. This episode should've NEVER BEEN WRITTEN IN THE FIRST PLACE DAMMIT! WHAT THE F... WAS THE WRITER THINKING ANYWAY!? I mean we all know that Plankton tries to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula and that Mr. Krabs always finds a way to stop him, but finding out that Plankton is afraid of whales cause we all know that whales eat plankton and krill and deciding to scare Plankton half to death disguised as his probably adopted whale daughter which causes Plankton to try and commit suicide, THAT'S JUST GOING TO DAMN FAR! This episode just makes me want to strangle Krabs. STRANGLE HIM UNTIL HE DROPS DEAD! Of course the real person to blame for this episode is the freaking writer. The writer of this episode should just take the script of it and SHOVE IT UP HIS ASS! Also his ass should've been fired for writing this. The guy who wrote this must've had some mental problems anyway. Anyway on to the second episode of this review. Gary in Love. Now you suppose that this episode would've been sort of like Lady and the Tramp or Beauty and the Beast, but it turns out to be pointless. I mean Gary should've gotten that female snail to be with him and Gary and away from those gangster snails, but in the end, the female snails owners boyfriend shows up along with his snail who kind of reminds us all of Gaston from Beauty and the Beast and the female snail and her owner go off with the handsome man and snail and leaves Gary broken hearted. Then Gary goes off to eat some garbage with the gangster snail. The writer of this episode wasn't even trying. Gary should've been with that female snail like Lady was with Tramp and Belle with the Beast/Prince. Like I said, these two like A Pal for Gary and Keep Bikini Bottom Beautiful are just as worse and all of those episodes are the worst SpongeBob episodes ever. I count them and WhoBob WhatPants as the top 5 worst Spongebob episodes of all time.

A terrible and an awesome episode
derpicassodp27 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, One Coarse Meal is one of the worst Spongebob episodes, it's just creepy, unfair treatment of Plankton, an absolutely bad writing of the Charackters and really morally reprehensible content. The end of it is much better but unstatisfying. I give One Coarse Meal 3.5/10.

But Gary In Love is sooo much better than One Coarse Meal. Clever writing and they finally do something interresting with Gary and don't just torture him. I like his love story aswell really much it reminds me at pre-movie episodes. So in my opinion, this is the BEST Season 7 episode.

What were the creators thinking?!
ahmedadoudi17 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My granddaughter tried to take her own life because of bullying. One Coarse Meal's premise really hurt my heart because of Mr. Krabs' goal to make Plankton end his life using his fear of whales! Why did they have to let this episode slide while giving Mid-Life Crustacean the boot?! I'm glad the creators regretted making this abomination of an episode. What the heck was wrong with them at the time?

Disgusting.
jessicagarnergirl1 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I can't believe the executives at Nickelodeon actually let this episode air for CHILDREN. This is the worst episode of the entire SpongeBob Squarepants series.

You probably know why I absolutely hate this episode: the suicide joke. I repeat: a SUICIDE joke. As Plankton is stalked, he becomes more and more paranoid for his life as Mr. Krabs stalks him in a Pearl costume. Plankton is so miserable that he tries to KILL HIMSELF.

Being a person who used to be suicidal, I was incredibly offended.

This wouldn't be as much of a disgusting episode if he actually did something evil to deserve the torment, but he doesn't really do anything evil in this episode. That classifies this episode as a torture porn. As most of us know, torture porns aren't funny because the tortured character didn't deserve the torment, making the audience feel sorrow for them rather than enjoyment.

Another disgusting aspect of this episode is how Mr. Krabs is getting ENJOYMENT of Plankton's suicidal behavior. That is truly evil.

I almost decided to resign as a SpongeBob Squarepants fan because of this episode, but that would mean I would have to abandon the incredible first three seasons of this show.

Even if you aren't or weren't suicidal, this episode will disgust you beyond belief. If you're a parent of young children, keep yourself and ESPECIALLY your children FAR away from this episode.

No review. I won't have a say, for my own safety.

I've ran out of remarks to make with this episode and I'm afraid that if I do try to give out my (true) opinion regarding One Coarse Meal, I'd probably get lynched by society. As such, I won't have a say. Please move on and read the other reviews, there's nothing much more to see here from me.

One Coarse Meal is One of the Worst Cartoons
troychrisrider27 January 2024
Oh wow, just wow. Plankton getting tortured, abused, and he wants to kill himself. No, i'm not joking. That's the whole plot of the episode. Plankton is shown having trauma at day, and nightmares at night. First of all, Plankton being afraid of whales does not make sense. Plankton has been around Pearl a multitude of times. Secondly, why would they put torture and a abuse in a spongebob episode?! Spongebob is supposed to be bright and cheery and has good messages (not always, but you get my point). Plankton's cousins being eaten also makes no sense at all! Like seriously, when did that ever happen? In Season 3, they literally all appeared. But jeez, don't watch this episode. It's mean-spirited, cruel, tedious beyond belief, and just a cartoon so bad it's so close to number 1. Yes, it's a very close second to my least favorite cartoon of all time. It will always be the absolute worst Spongebob Episode of all time. Not even a Pal of Gary could top this one. (Btw, A Pal of Gary gave me nightmares when I first saw it back then. So it's crazy that this episode is worse than A Pal for Gary.)

This episode was worthless!, I earned nothing form this experience! Mr krabs drives plankton to insanity!! Atleast are you happy now was a good episode handled depression even more!, This episode deserves the hate i give this 1/10!

Gary in love was fine it was FINE! Its good enough for season 7 but gary was played at the end! Well i liked it how gary watched the tv and saw like a novel or something i forgot. He really did say "OMG HE IS JUST LIKE ME FR FR" But i didn't like how gary got played at the end! That was very mean spirited but i guess its better than one course meal i give it a 3/10.

The worst episode ever made!
damwario19 May 2024
One Coarse Meal is definitely the absolute worst episode of the entire show, i mean how did it didn't get banned, and it is especially true due to the suicide jokes, in a SpongeBob episode! Not to mention that it had boring pacing even when compared to other bad SpongeBob episodes, in fact it's make A Pal for Gary look like a masterpiece by comparison and that episode was also god awful. I give that episode a rating of 1.5/10.

Gary in Love howewer is fine and did get some decent jokes and lot of funny moments compared to One Coarse Meal, the characters are also more likable in this episode, overral a decent episode, i give it a 6/10.

Pretty good episodes, but I can understand the hatred of the former.
TheReviewerPerson11 September 2018
Let me say here that both episodes are great, but I understand why people dislike One Coarse Meal (I prefer Gary In Love as well). Yes, One Coarse Meal does have some bad implications, but it really uses them to make the episode funnier. The only reason I don't consider it to be the most underrated episode is because I think it's good at best.
