That's a sticky wicket
VetteRanger13 January 2023
Or maybe a sticky pillow, as Mrs. Pumphrey introduces the first issues in the episode by worrying that Tricky Woo has developed a bit of a libido. That's an understatement. From her description he seems to be humping everything in sight, and Siegfried's offer of a surgical solution does not meet with a warm reception.

In the meantime, Tristan is moping about after learning he failed Parasitology, and refused to participate in the Vets and Farmers' team in the annual cricket match against other locals, and it's a match the Vets and Farmers traditionally lose, or are crushed, to put it truthfully.

James offers to be a last-minute replacement, and then there are a few surprises at the match. We had a good laugh at Tricky Woo racing across the pitch. :-)

It's just not cricket

Warning: Spoilers
I like the reboot of All Creatures Great and Small. I must readily admit, I have not ever seen the original series, the one with Peter Davison (whose father is Guyanian by the way). Anyway, the ending was quite unpredictable with a twist that would make Roald Dahl and Charlie Brooker proud for sure. The dismissal at the end was rather a shock and I expected more at the time, but the true meaning really sunk in, and really, all credit to the writers for coming up with it to advance the storyline.

I can't wait for the series finale, and catching up with season 3.

Patricia Hodge shines in her role.

Great scenery...pity about the script!

What's happened to this programme. I really didn't enjoy this particular episode. Seemed thin in the story line...and some the acting was a wee bit wooden. Such a shame.

Too much cricket
Pegasus-1027 February 2022
OK, as an American viewer I know very little about the game, although I did learn a few things (which I'll never put to any use.) And as someone active in dog rescue the whole "let nature take its course" thing with Tricki was unpleasant (although in times with the times, I suppose.) I still enjoy spending time with the characters (most of them), so not a total abandonment.

Weak Episode
Hitchcoc28 January 2024
Could be called "The Return of Hugh." Helen's former fiancee returns. He owns the lease on her home and he has power over the farm if doesn't renew it. There is a very tense scene where the family awaits his decision. When things work out he makes a really significant gift to the family. It's obvious he is trying to win Helen back. James is jealous. Unfortunately, the remainder of the episode is a cricket match between two local factions. James has never played and makes a bit of a fool of himself. Ultimately, he makes a sacrifice to show he is the better man. But the game itself seems endless, going nowhere, with little or no plot development.
