The First Review is Wrong
dman-8010927 March 2023
The previous review for Episode 1 is clearly not for this show. Blair Underwood is not the star, Gabriel Basso is. Likewise, both Jennifer Ferrin and Omar Metwally, referenced in the review, are not in this episode or upcoming episodes. While many of the plot points are somewhat accurate, most are not. The actual show, Episode 1 is quite good. Think the movie and the series, Three Days of the Condor and Condor respectfully. Right from the beginning there is serious action and good acting. I'm looking forward to the rest of the episodes. If you like shows regarding government conspiracies give this one a look.

An absorbing and exciting start.
Sleepin_Dragon17 December 2023
FBI Agent Peter receives a distress call from Rose, who's aunt and uncle are killed by intruders, Rose witnesses the assailant, and her life is placed on mortal danger, Peter is tasked with keeping her alive.

Great start, within the first five minutes I became hooked, one of those shows I will probably end up binge watching over the next few days. Explosive, exciting, and that ending was bleak.

I may be wrong, but was this a remake of The Bodyguard from The BBC? It certainly feels very familiar, no matter if it is or isn't, it's absorbing TV, the train scenes, the explosions, even the central character, Peter is handsome and clean cut, he even looks a little like Richard Madden.

Gabriel Basso was terrific as Peter, absolutely nailed this performance.

9/10.

Off to a fantastic start!
GregTheStopSign956 April 2023
I don't know why I waited so long to start watching this, I was utterly hooked by the end of this episode so I just hope they can keep up the pace.

I barely recognise anyone aside from Robert Patrick and Hong Chau but that's fine, it lessens the chance of me being pulled out of it by familiar faces AND it gives me new actors to appreciate.

It's also probably going to give me a new book to read if it goes the way it's looking like going. Other than that, I'm out of stuff to ramble about in order to fill the character limit I'm supposed to fill so I'll just waffle a little longer until that quota is full.

Action and mystery and I'm hooked
kathi-2223629 March 2023
Another reviewer mentioned the movie Three Days of the Condor (the book was Six Days 😉) and I saw that, too. There's a lot of that flavor and many similarities. But this definitely stands on its own as an intriguing and exciting story. This first episode is off to a great start with almost nonstop action that actually also moves the story forward. I watched the trailer thinking I'd put it in my watchlist for later, but I was so intrigued I had to start in on it immediately. I won't stay up all night binging, but it sure is tempting.

I think Netflix has a major hit in The Night Agent. I'm certainly hooked!

I liked a lot, hate the chick
BruceWayne33 April 2023
I like the premise a lot, the story catches your attention But the chick is a horrible actress When she heard her aunt died she goes - everyone loved them What the?

Hahaha That is such a dumb response No emotion at all

And the scene where the cop opens the closet door and it's not the bad guy is such a 90's rip off The timing didn't make sense at all How do you switch from bad guy to cop in 1 second and the cop doesn't see the bad guy? Come on, the scene was tense and could of been really good But it ended with a let down

The dialogue is clunky at times.

But overall a very entertaining first episode.

All Over the Place

I will do what I always do. If I'm not terribly enamored with the initial episode of one of these series, I will give it one more go. The scatter-gun approach is hard to hone in on. A young woman goes to see her uncle and aunt. While there some killers show up and she is forced to take off, having been given a phone number and a message. Her uncle and aunt are dead within minutes. She barely survives and a young agent manages to keep her alive. He is a Night Agent. He is to answer a phone in a little room and engage people to help. During the short time, she is in danger from three entities and barely makes it. I have no idea what is going on, only that she is in grave danger.

Call me Maybe?
AvionPrince1617 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So the first episode is pretty interesting and entertaining to be honest. We can witness a lot of events: we dont really understand all but we can understand is pretty big and its related to the white house somehow. The story have some interesting elements where we can see some mysteries(what is the night agent? Is the white house really have a mole? The uncle and aunt of Rose was spies? But what they were into? What triggered all these events and the killing of some spies? Info? We dont really know. We learn a little bit more of Peter where his implications in the Bomb explosion in the train is not sure or was kind of implicit. Rose also have some suspicions of one of the member of the white house is a mole but here too we dont really know if its true. The story really helped make me dive into it pretty quickly and make us wondering some things that we cant really know for now. Its pretty promising. The actions scenes was there too but was a little bit classic and just here to make forward the story. It had some tensions, mysteries and we can see a start of a trust relationship between Rose and Peter? And a start of a plot a little bit more deep? Need to see more.

Bad script, bad acting
thetenthletter9 April 2023
I laughed so hard I wondered if I was actually watching a comedy. None of the character are actually believable. The acting appalling. Script should have been saved for a sitcom and no one knows how to use a firearm. I mean, the girl finds out her aunt and uncle have been murdered and all she cares about is that the agent works at the Whitehouse? Wtf!? And when she put the mirror on the floor- ha! She might as well have just put a sign on the closet door saying "Incredibly dumb victim in here! Lame cliche after lame cliche. Couldn't even finish the first episode. Think I'll just go rewatch The Last of Us.

Sloppy in so many ways
solitudeape4 April 2023
The first episode (as far as I've gotten so far) sets the series up as a realistic depiction of political intrigue but has so many unrealistic plot points.

An agent wouldn't take a victim to their personal home.

Why are important back information sitting out on his desk?

Forced dialogue to get the viewer up to speed.

Horrible female actress.

Sloppy scene where he is accosted by thugs on the street.

Very changeable weather - rain, dry, rain, inconsistencies all over the horizon.

I'll give it another episode because the first episode is usually crap because getting viewers up to speed is difficult to do in a natural way. It doesn't look good for thinking viewers.

Not Compelling
gsmack6 April 2023
Lead actor Gabriel Basso as night agent Peter Sutherland does his best with a weak storyline and poorly composed script. The central idea of this story could have been rendered in a much more compelling fashion. To make matters worse, Sutherland's boss Diane Farr, played by Hong Chau, doesn't feel right with her monotone dialog. Sutherland's protectee Rose Larkin, played by Luciane Buchanan, is a better character than the script deserves. She's totally believable as someone dragged into intrigue and danger.

The idea of an agent alone in the middle of the night tied to a telephone and then having to come to the rescue of a fearful and lovely woman is a good executive summary for a proposed television series or film. But, alas it didn't work for me. I only watched three episodes, and that wasn't easy.

Grab bag of cliches
jeroen-10630 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Haven't we all seen this thousands of times before? Isn't the acting and cinematography exactly what you'd expect - functional and cliche? There is no real chemistry between the characters who seem to act on auto-pilot. The dialogue is cringey at times. The woman actually acts pretty horrible.

There's a scene where a woman is staying upstairs and the house owners are talking downstairs. The dialog is so poorly done and contrived, it feels fake and constructed just so the woman upstairs gets a full picture of what they've done. That part made me so angry - how low can you go as a writer!

As if they all read the same "how to act in USA drama series" book. It lacks creativity, finesse, the willingness to do something exciting and new.

This is now the 5th show I started on Netflix and it feels like they are just pooping out crap. I am not going to finish this. Why should I waste my time on this?

So bad for this day and age
emsie-ki28 October 2023
Lazy writing - The storyline had the potential to be an easy action thriller that anyone could get into, but instead, it was annoying at best.

Also, one of the main characters is a moron that got on my nerves. Perhaps they have a problem listening to and understanding simple words?

Bad acting - Most of the actors sounded like they were in a school play. Little emotion and painful to listen to.

Overall, I chose not to waste my time even finishing the first episode. There are so many viewing options out there, that this really was not worth it. All it did was make me totally annoyed.

Good riddance.

Bad story, Bad acting
muskad202-804-7968873 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Story is very unrealistic. The aunt and uncle instruct their niece how to escape, why don't they do too?

The white house and FBI want the agent to protect the niece, and tell him to keep her safe till the morning? Why not just instruct him to get her to the FBI HQ immediately?

The agent takes the niece to his house, and then asks her for her phone to make sure they aren't being tracked? Shouldn't he have done it before they took off?

Pretty nonsensical. Full of cliches. And dialogue is really uninteresting. Just another wannabe thriller series. IMO failed to make the necessary impact that would make me want to watch the 2nd episode.
