. . . Director Jones' work at Warner Brothers and for Leo the groaning Lion, such as a Loony Tunes snippet from the masterful ONE F-R-O-G-G-Y EVENING featuring the stage-shy Michigan J. Frog, which the final Tom & Jerry director crafted in 1955. There also are segments from WHAT'S OPERA, DOC?--plus a bit of THE RABBIT OF SEVILLE, as well as examples of Jones' more memorable work for Leo, including THE DOT AND THE LINE, which won him the Oscar for the Best Animated Short of 1965 and the longer television initial animated version of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS. TOM AND JERRY . . . AND CHUCK concludes with the narrator admitting that Mr. Jones' 34 T & J episodes, arguably the best three dozen of the bunch, represent only a tiny footnote among the great body of this artist's life work.

. . . "Tom and Jerry . . . And Gene: The Rembrandt Years," a scintillating Bonus feature on the 2015 DVD "Tom and Jerry: The Gene D-e-i-t-c-h Collection" this is the first result yielded on this site. Maybe that's because there's only enough room on the internet to recognize three Tom & Jerry directors. Be that as it may, Gene's profile is provided by an outfit called R-i-v-e-n-d-e-l-l Films, a concern NOT recognized by this site's spellchecker, as is the case with Gene's surname. Gene spends a little more than 18 minutes and 8 seconds answering the accusation that his 13 episodes were "the worst Tom & Jerry's ever made." He notes that there is a 11-year-old kid somewhere on the internet that actually regards them as the best, but does not reveal exactly how this urchin is related to him. This film contains clips from most or all of Gene's Tom & Jerry's, including D. MOE, TALL IN THE TRAP, THE TOM & JERRY CARTOON KIT, CARMEN GET IT!, IT'S GREEK TO MEOW, SORRY SAFARI, CALYPSO CAT, LANDING STRIP and MOUSE INTO SPACE.
