Interesting, confusing, beautiful, & great music
alcinephile24 March 2024
I thought this was a horror film for some reason, but it certainly isn't. The film seems to be more of a musical psychological drama (if that's a thing) clearly shot during the pandemic. I didn't think I would like it in the first few minutes, but I enjoyed the film. I loved the camera work, the music, the performances, & the subtle integration of social themes and the world building of the film.

I do feel there could've been more to the story and Jen's story could have been explored even further, but seeing the budget of the film, I guess this was what they could do.

That being said, the film does get a bit confusing at one point because it juggles between timelines, but I did like how different timeline had a different look. The black bar moved from up and down to side ways and how in some part the screen would split.

Another stand out aspect of the film is the music, which sounds amazing, but in some areas it was over used. The first track that plays in the beginning and reoccurs several times is the best and I can listen to it all day. The composer just killed it with the piano.

On whole, I don't think this film will be for everyone. It is for a niche audience, but it's definitely a great watch for all the reason mentioned above.

Good Film

The music, performance, & camera work is outstanding. Looking at the budget it's made on they've managed to put together a nice indie film.

That being said, pacing could've been a bit faster and there could've been more to the protagonist story.

The musician of this film deserves all the appreciation because he has done an outstanding job. Also the cinematographer has captured the frames beautifully and visuals look stunning. I personally like the use of different aspect ratios and it somewhat reminds me of Wes Andersons film although the tonality of this film is very different, but it does remind you of his work.

Overall a good indie film.
