Great Writing and Acting in this Family Drama
kjs114411 March 2023
Easter Replacements is a fascinating family drama, with great acting, and exceptional writing. A married couple going through some strong disagreements, learns that the two couples that they thought were coming to their home, have cancelled and sent two other couple instead. I thought the social tension and the mood were very effective. The story unfolded in ways I didn't expect, and it was very intriguing. In addition to the married couple who is in strong disagreement, we see the relationship dynamics between the other couples play out in very surprising ways as well. This movie is worth your time, watch it!

This was an enjoyable movie to watch which seemed lighthearted but had a nice message. The diverse cast had realistic, finely drawn, strong characters which lent dimension to the story. Each actor had some really nice moments. They were a pleasure to watch.

Low stakes comedy with a wholesome message
RBIves-202-7253528 March 2023
Not every movie needs to be life and death with world shattering consequences. Your proof is right here. This is a simple, real time, dinner party comedy with a nice range of characters and plots that come together with a great Easter message that remains light on religious overtones.

A married couple is comically pressured into hosting an Easter for 4 strangers and what transpires is full of quirky people, modern references, mistaken identities, and conflicting motivations. There's lots of back and forth leaving you to wonder who, if anyone, will ultimately get their way. And that's the whole fun of it!

I dug the multiracial cast, uplifting score, and just overall positive message this movie had to share with the world.

Unpredictable and heartwarming family drama
indysaini29 March 2023
A comic drama that sets up a surprising dilemma when four strangers show up for an Easter dinner celebration with a couple who have differing ideas of how the day should play out. The story probes personal ethical questions for each of the characters. As the day progresses, tension builds to where each needs to make big decisions for themselves and towards each other. The film is cleverly written, with great performances by the ensemble cast.

It's an enjoyable ride with quirky characters, good acting, uplifting music, and an overall positive message that leaves you thinking about it. I would definitely recommend.

All's well that ends well

Warning: Spoilers
"Happy wife, happy life" ... it's a false truth. It should also read, "happy hubby, keeps you bubbly"! Anyway, when this one opens, it's pretty clear that wifey 'ain't happy. Not by a LONG shot. Hubby is, but that's because he makes constant choices to be happy, in spite of his angry spouse. And when dinner Easter plans change, unhappy wife becomes VERY unhappy spouse, making things even more challenging. Billy (Monte James) does a nice job playing a level-headed husband who is trying to balance home and work life, and it's not looking good. Anasio Obioha (Bobby) is a funky wife character. She's tough on her husband and is overall pretty demanding, wanting a life where SHE gets served, not the other way around. What's even more interesting is that she works as a marriage counselor, which is even weirder, because her own behavior would make any adult male divorce her in two seconds flat. Then TWO replacement couples drop in on the dysfunctional for a lovely easter dinner. It's goes about as well as you expect to, and then....well you'll just have to catch the rest for yourself. This one got a few solid laughs out of me, and it had me yelling at Bobby to be more decent to her obviously too-good for her husband. Anytime you get that engaged, that's a very good thing!

Great script! This writer is going places.
Anmer935 April 2022
Although this isn't really my type of movie I was most surprised at the quality of the writing. This is a stellar script and I believe this writer is going places, without a doubt the best and most impressive thing in this film. The dialogue was so good it almost felt at odds with the film in some moments. Witty character interactions galore, this also has astute satire, genuinely endearing character moments, not least from the central protagonist who is thoughtout teetering on the edge of catastrophe in everything he does. And the performances really hold their own which allows the dialogue to flourish even more. My criticisms would be the somewhat pasted in rolling background soundtracks, I would have much preferred an interesting soundscape/sound design to allow the awkward comedy to do its thing. Also I feel that the staging often felt static, no one really moves while they are talking so the film is 90 percent static conversations... Great conversations, but I thought it would definitely benefit from more dynamic blocking. All that said I feel that we are watching a class A writer in his early years, and I have no doubt that we will be seeing much larger TV shows and movies helmed by this writer in the near future.

Slow start but it gets better
oursalvation1 April 2023
I struggled a bit for the first half of this movie because I didn't like or connect with any of the characters except for the main character Billy. I have been put in the exact position that he was put in about having to choose between my wife and total strangers before so I can identify with that.

With that said, the second half of the movie was better than the first. In my opinion for a movie like this to be entertaining it needs to have quirky and likable characters and it partly succeeded in doing this. Most of the characters started out as unlikable but we got to see a better part of each one of them as the story continued.

The concept for the story was pretty solid. Some of the dialog seemed a bit unrealistic but in a comedy like this it works..

To host or not to host
marceldorian4 April 2022
What would you do if you had to host 2 couples of complete strangers while dealing with marital issues? This movie raises questions regarding family values in the backdrop of social expectations. If this sounds like something you are interested in, give this indie a go, it might surprise you.

Fix your plates and watch
renikamcqueen16 February 2024
Congratulations to all involved! Good movie to watch on a chill day. The great thing about it is it is age appropriate and you can watch it with your parents, friends and family. No sex, no drugs, no violence and I can definitely appreciate that. Light hearted and warm with your normal, everyday, small drama between a husband and wife. It also shows people ulterior motives that they have sometimes and how the corporate world can be. The wife definitely is strong and not for games, having her and her husband's best interest at heart. All in all, it made me ready for Easter dinner as well. I'd say check it out and enjoy! Easter is coming up so why not? Although it's called Easter Replacements, there's nothing that need to be replaced. Congratulations again everyone.

Engaging Holiday Comedy
SGarrett4961218 February 2024
This is a well-written comedy/drama about a husband & wife who take 4 strangers into their home for Easter Sunday dinner. Complications of culture, secret agendas, and the desire to be successful all collide in a fun, entertaining way. There is good character development throughout for each character. I enjoyed all of the actors' performances. Writer/Director Travis Grenke understands nuance, when to play something broad, and when to go for the heartstrings. There is a slight faith-based flavor to it, but it's minimal and fitting given it being Easter. It reminded me of the French farce "The Dinner Game." For an indie comedy, this movie really delivers.

A fun story with a great message
julianvhampton23 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Easter Replacements is a fun and unique look at marriage, careers, family and a holiday dinner. In a movie where everyone wants something, Travis brings to light a story that shows how being genuine, sticking to your values and looking out for others works out in the end. The film does a great job of putting unique characters in various situations, while providing a message that doesn't feel forced. The main character was enjoyable as the straight man, trying to be composed, while a web of agendas swirl around him. If you're looking for a positive film with some humorous moments, this is a great one to choose.

Entertaining family movie
annelauremilleville9 March 2023
« Easter replacements » is a refreshing and lighthearted family movie to be watched.

The story of a man who invites his boss to dinner ends up in a reception with three couples that at first seem to be at odds with each other, but who end up finding a common happy ending. What would you do if your boss asked you to host complete strangers in your home in exchange for the promotion you aspire to, even if it could put your own marriage in danger? Well, that's the situation Billy is confronted with throughout this film. The story story gets spicy as we understand each other's intentions and bones of contention within each couple, whose communication and mutual support will be the keys to getting through it.

Great relationship indie
ktegmom19 February 2024
What starts out as an already pressure filled premise, making Easter brunch for the boss, gets even more complicated as the guest list changes and new characters enter the picture. Great dialogue and a fun indie, loved the two main characters and their relationship, felt relatable.

A highlight of this film is the writing and actors that can pull it off as a realistic exchange between a long married couple. Then add in the social tension between the new guests and the hosts and it is an interesting conundrum managing the expectations of your spouse and your boss and being a good host to some unexpected company. Enjoy watching this indie gem!

Gem of a film!
craigahrens13 March 2024
I thoroughly enjoyed this gem of a film from beginning to end! The actors were all so fun to watch. There were a lot of good funny moments. I thought they were all very good and played off of each other so well! I never found myself getting bored or my mind wonder off (that is a very good sign for me when rating a film). Kudos to writer/director Travis Grenke. He wore a number of hats on this project (he was the editor as well). The pacing of this film was terrific. It moved along super well which is so important and it kept the funny at really nice clip without getting zany or too out there. So for me, this one clearly gets a thumbs up! Bravo folks! Well done!

Fun
idealityentertainment20 February 2024
This film was a lot of fun to watch. The dialogue was authentic, and the characters we're real. As a happily married man I could really appreciate the all of these tropes as they developed. The cliche happy wife happy life for example always seemed so lob-sided. They introduce the concept of happy spouse happy house, which seems more appropriate in this day and age. The main character Billy comes off as a push-over while being married to a demanding wife. The life lessons can truly be valued by anyone in a long standing marriage. I especially enjoyed the creative animation in intro and the out-tro.
