This show went way over my head as a youngster, I remember watching some of it with my sister, probably the later years, but I never found it funny. Rewatching it now, I can understand why, it's quite high brow humour, very topical, definitely political, with lots of jokes fitting the political climate of the time.
I'm a little surprised that The BBC is showing this right now, especially when they take a fee digs at The Corporation. Rab C Nesbitt bemoans the lack of sitcoms......pretty accurate.
I had all but forgotten that this was where Rab C Nesbitt came from, I think that was my favourite moment from this first episode, a very funny sequence, even if I didn't grasp some of it. It's prompted me to order the DVD box set, that's a show I used to love.
Loved the scene of the yuppy men dancing around their briefcases, that was fun.
Elaine C Smith, Helen Lederer, Gregor Fisher and more, there's a lot here to love.
8/10.
