Detective Anna Badosi is in a jewelry shop and finds owner Enno Patitzsie fatally shot in the back room, shots at a masked, armed robber and wounds him, while his female accomplice escapes. David Schrader's fate shakes Anna's confidence enough to reconsider her parents Renate and Lozenzo Badosi's initially rejected plan to start an inn in Italy. The police team, to Rico's annoyance joined by fresh rookie Nelly Kienzle, investigates David's claim he found Enno dead. The jeweler's son and heir, Thomas Patitz, left the family business after a row and started an Internet firm. Enno cheated systematically on his wife Antonia Patitz, who knew. The second robber is identified as Ina Schrader, elder sister of teen David Schrader, who remains in mortal danger. They were desperate for cash after buying a small garage. She's arrested after trying to free her brother by taking a doctor hostage and claims Enno Patitz hired them for insurance fraud. Rico Sander finds the final trail.

Shortly before auction house Lenné's Marc Turot session, their 'intern' art student Ariane Voss is strangled there at night, his paintings are missing. Owner Riccarda Lenné reports a ransom demand, which allows the police to catch recently paroled 'career' petty thief Kai Meerbusch, but he just pretended having the loot. Jan Arnaud finds the robbery was staged to distract from the purposeful murder. Attention turn to her more private sphere: her lovers Jan Weimar, an obsessive artist, and Arianes professor and promoter Ulrich Beck, who didn't know about each-other. IT-Specialist Rico Sander's analysis shows what's crucially wrong with the stolen paintings, yielding another motive.

It's Björn Seberle, executive in Oliver Eichler's events agency, who took the boss's place last minute. Als die Ermittler Seberle's home was robbed, his laptop stolen, unlike 25 000 Euro cash, paid 'discretely' as private loan by state attorney Jens Köster, whom Seberle blackmails as part of his scam to take compromising pictures of guests on the lavish 'team building excursions' to luxury hotels with 'live entertainment in bed'. Köster has an alibi and informed Oliver Eichler, who proves he broke in to retrieve the blackmail pictures. IT-specialist Rico Sander gets hired to search the firm computers undercover, which also yields a candid pregnancy.

According to script, police series lead Raimund Heckmann is shot by Petra Rückert, but actually killed instead of the expected blank. Everybody on set could manipulate the weapon, as the man in charge left it in his unlocked car. Jo Stoll and Martina Seiffert have no shortage of suspects, as Heckmann was unpopular. Director Helmut Strassner knew about wife Tanja's affair with Heckmann, who dumped her for an unknown. Caterer and crazy super-fan Franka Hesse, with an alarming record, hated Raimund Heckmann being written out and was sickly jealous of his real life partners. Helmut Strassner makes a fake confession, producer Marc Kross is abducted by a woman. Rico's making off video analysis proves crucial.

Ex-con Leo Kehrlich's wood firm explodes while he's in the pub, wife Petra and son Tim are also out, yet a burnt corpse is found. Cause was a sabotaged gas pipe. Many locals turn on 'bad seed' Leo Kehrlich worse then ever before since a fatal fight killed the village baker Erwin Broich's knavish son. The victim was Leo's manager, Georg Sass, who had an affair with Petra since Leo as in jail. The local constable can barely prevent a lynching by rocks before the case is cracked.

Henriette Simon recently broke off her engagement with professor Hans Dorfmann, Wolter's colleague, after his surprise recovery from a grave illness, unmasking the gold-digger, but he maintains to have chosen even a short time with her. His girl friend Cora Jungbluth suspects Tom's father and hospital doctor, professor Dr. Peter Derichs, expertly knocked him down for refusing to donate the only compatible liver that can save his brother Lukas, a model citizen and Peter's pride and joy. Professor Dr. Derichs now preps comatose Tom, whom he administered first aid conspicuously coincidentally there, for the organ transplant, but Peter refuses without Tom's explicit consent. Sister in law Susanne Derichs claims she bribed Tom that day with 250 000 Euro cash, which remains missing, but there's no other sign of robbery, only the professor reports a dark mystery man escaping with some bag. Tom was informally blamed for the accident his mother died in. Susanne Derichs is forced to admit Tom wanted sex with her as bribe. Tom's girl friend Cora Jungbluth came to cash, suspiciously according to club owner Bruno Leifeld.

Many 'scored' women and some partners have motives to wish him ill. Alexander Dietz also discretely negotiated an international books deal with a Candian publisher, behind Jörn Wagner's back. Shy IT-nerd Rico Sander must go undercover and makes some discoveries.

Fanny recently had sex, perhaps with recently paroled robber and youth lover Kevin Lausterer, whose big last jewelry robbery loot was never found, nor has cahoot identified, he's missing. Further avenues are found.

The victim is identified as well-groomed Jennifer Sommer, an orphan who left guardian-uncle Julian von Schönhausen's villa a year ago, dropping out of college and moving in with anti-capitalist environmental activist Onno Baumgarten, whom a trap proves prone to violence, suspecting Klara Beil of the murder. Jo Stoll and Martina Seiffert find Julian owns the bio-chain and like Onno hid having been on the murder site. Jo arrests Klara, who admits having hit with a baseball bat. Chief Kaiser refuses to disqualify himself as too close to homeless witness Paul Lehmann, is former banker who saved him but not himself from bankruptcy, on whose clothes the victim's blood is found. Rico finds the bio-chain imported Ukrainian products and sold them as regional produce.

She also drafter a letter to fire foundation assistant Tobias Leuthard, who waves that as usual impulsive noise and invokes an alibi. Betty Achalm's daughter Luna has a secret affair with Jonas Berglen and schemed to take Sarah Rosinger's place. Rico crucially links a picture of baby twins in Sarah's purse to an earlier death.

Markus Fink also was intimate with biology student and museum cashier Agnes Försching, who discovered her mentor's doctoral study is mostly plagiarized, yet denies blackmail. Arnaud discovers a rhino horn was swapped with a plaster fake, good enough to come from the museum's own workshop, and sold as 'Chinese traditional medication'. Precinct evidence room officer Friedemann Sonntag, who came to arrange the team building trip to the museum, stumbles upon a clue to link both crimes.

Jo Stoll is atypically late at the precinct, having found a baby at his boat, with an unsigned note to care for Karl. Comatose Lea Wilhelm must have been shot by a third person. Keppler's son and management successor Hannes Keppler and concrete firm colleague Bernd Aldinger see no possible motive. Fresh widow Bettina Keppler, also Adrian's former secretary, probably sensed the marriage was breaking down. Jo finds Lea Wilhelm, his ex, is Karl's mother, he may and would like to be the father, but that's another of her exes: rocker Rocky Hofer, an ex-con for illicit arms. A simple construction fraud provides another angle.
