A bright start to The Girl Before. A psychological thriller involving three damaged people.

A designer modernist house that is an architectural wonder that no sensible person would want to live in.

The owner and architect Edward (David Oyelowo) has imposed onerous conditions, about 200 of them. However the cost for living in the house is minimal rent, a bargain for London.

There are parallel stories told in two timelines. Emma and Simon moved into the house three years earlier. Emma had gone through a trauma where she was attacked at knifepoint.

Jane (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) moves in three years later. She has just lost a baby but is single.

Jane discovers that the house might have an aura of bad luck.

Edward meant to live in the house but his wife and child died when the house was being built. Then she discovers that Emma died in mysterious circumstances.

Just maybe Edward was involved somehow. When Jane meets Simon, he sorts of implies it.

Oyelowo is kind of creepy. A little odd, maybe enigmatic and also grief stricken.

The production have cast two actresses that have a superficial resemblance. Implying that Edward could had been obsessed by these two women.

I was left wanting to find out more how this would turn out.

A fantastic start.

This is such a bizarre start to the series, but it's a pretty captivating watch. I liked the characters, the story, and the general curiosity that this offers.

At first I thought this had an almost sci fi element, the house had an almost supernatural vibe, but half way through there is a big switch up, it takes on a very different, dark switch up.

Great music, great production, it looks and sounds fantastic, but it's got enough substance to match the style.

I did think this was a strange drama to have on just a few days before Christmas, the season of joy, this didn't offer much in the way of joy, but it does ask a tonne of questions, and offers a wealth of intrigue.

Great start, 9/10.

The series seems to be well written judging from the first episode, hope it stays at the same level until the end, it's all available on iPlayer now, I might finish it tonight 😀

Warning: Spoilers
Nasty things are happening in a minimalist house which you are asked to believe people want to live in,which no-one ever would and it seems the architect owner of the property had a wife and child who died when a wall fell on them at the property, which was then rebuilt and he lures women who look like his wife into the property and thats about it.

If the house is minamalist the plot is equally so as is any emotional investment you could have in any of the poorly drawn characters in this hideous primetime drama.
