Relies too much on exposition
thefoochie26 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
While I feel like these last two episodes have been a huge step up in pacing, writing, and direction, I still can't help feeling slightly underwhelmed.

Yeah, I did like Norman's backstory, but I keep thinking, "why didn't they just show us his backstory in a flashback?" It's like the series is in a big hurry for no reason at all. It's allowed to take its time with backstory episodes. No one cares if you spend 2, even 3 episodes with Norman's backstory. Just show us!

A good example of "show don't tell" that the promised neverland could have done, is attack on Titan. Instead of exposition only scenes, aot really took its time (2 episodes!) to give us an intriguing, and thought provoking backstory. And I wish tpn could have done that. That being said, it's not bad. But it could have been so much better. I still feel underwhelmed by Norman's backstory.

I am excited to see where we will go from here. Will Norman betray his family and execute the plan, or betray his allies and call it off? I feel like giving it an 8 is too generous, but I think it deserves this rating solely for being better than the atrocity that is season 2 episode 5.

I recommend everyone to read the manga. Goldy pond arc is way better than even season 1 of the anime and I loved season 1. This show skipped its best characters and arcs and is going original. If you truly want the master piece or how season 2 should have been read the goldy pond at least.

Good demon is dead demon..

Warning: Spoilers
I agree with Norman. Emma is being too idealistic and innocent, almost socialist to keep the demons alive, it would take a huge and strong cultural change besides they no longer need to eat humans, they would need to convince sympathetic demons, fight political forces that want to maintain the status quo, demons that like to to feed on humans regardless of need or even those who are unsure of such a "genetic" change in their bodies and future side effects.

At the end:
  • The Norma's plan is reckless and dangerous, and likely to attract the attention of intelligent demons and their most loyal human collaborators and be prevented in the early stages, isolating the degeneration in the affected cities and focusing on its causes.

  • Emma's plan to use the demon's blood is uncertain, as not all demons would accept and there would be political resistance of all kinds. Such a plan to succeed would take decades, perhaps centuries, before she could convince and even compel demons to be cured of not depending on human blood. In addition, there is a risk that once humans cease to be eaten, they automatically become rivals in situations of limited resources, and the demons choose to hunt them down, this time to exterminate them.

  • The escape plan in my opinion is the most sensible. But it's a selfish plan, it doesn't change the situation, it would just save them.

Differing viewpoints, hidden secrets, an actual goal and a cliffhanger...

This may be a break from all of the disappointing episodes before this.

Not worth it, would not recommend even if I got paid from doing so..

The story was too rushed, no backstory, no flashbacks, no inner thoughs??, they removed 4 arcs, completely erased characters that were important for the plot and character growth, I highly recommend to see the season 1 anime, then switch to the manga (start at chapter 38) the manga was truly a masterpiece, but look at how they massacred my poor boy.
