I must say after the first episode I was apprehensive but after watching the 7th episode I am hooked, love the show, hope they keep it going.

A Sweet Light-hearted Aussie Drama
silversundance1 September 2021
I agree with the reviewers who give a lower rating because of the first episode (which essentially tries to cram too much in at once), however if you give the show a chance it does develop into something much better.
If you are a fan of light hearted dramas such as 1000 words - i think you will like this. Several of the actors are established Aussie actors who you will recognise if you have watched many other recent dramas - including Five Bedrooms.
The story revolves around the RFDS and the crisis they face, however the show deals with this in such a way that you can't help connect with those affected.
It is sweet and heart felt and a nice light easy watch. It keeps out modern politics and all the social nonsense you watch TV to avoid.
The only annoyance with the show is the English Doctor's son. He is just a whiney child who acts far younger than his age. The show doesn't really connect with his character, and the actor who plays him is so wooden that you are glad of that !

Love seeing the landscapes in this series, and the light, so different from my world.. I hope it's renewed. They could certainly find enough stories to last for decades. Lots of different plot threads off of each character, too. I love that this world is so different from mine.
Keeping fingers crossed.

I love this show, I cannot stress that enough. It's brilliant. I'm old enough to remember The Flying Doctors, what you might call the original RFDS and the flame was passed on to an equally entertaining show that displays what life in the harshness of the outback can be...the good, the bad and the type that tears your heart out of your chest when you witness it.
The characters are really great, contemporary, kind, funny and somewhat tongue in cheek at times, but we'll thought out and we'll acted.
This show is a real true blue pleasure to watch and it tips it's hat to the real people who work for the Royal Flying Doctors and the great work they do in the rough outback environment.

Above average medical show

As a nurse, I have loved medical shows since ER. I'm very critical of most, because they're not realistic and you can't help but see the flaws. I found RFDS to be above average. Obviously I don't know what goes on in the Outback, but I do know that these stories are pretty darn good and very realistic. I hope that there is enough support to keep this one going! I like it!
Absolutely love!

Excellent acting, excellent show!

This is one of the best "doctor" shows that I have seen! The acting is outstanding. The stores are great. Realistic. Most of the other medical/ police/ first responder shows that I have watched and liked (to varying degrees) don't measure up to RFDS.
I'm American, really like Australian, British, New Zealand shows. Good job!

Watching this was a true Joy - Made me cry, laugh out loud, and love this show!

I am a typical American binge watcher, I am an avid story lover, and this is the best I have seen in years. IMO the stories Are believable, the situations with the interpersonal relationships are all too understandable, but thoroughly enjoyable. As a fan of the movies, and series like Agents of Shield, The Expanse, Outland, and shows and series presenting nature and science, this was such a great find! Can't wait for season 2 and on. Thank you!
Love it!!!

Really angry from what I see tonight
debkamaine13 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So, a doctor who says an addict shouldn't be using, and when he calls out a therapist for kissing same drug addict client, doctor is the bad guy. His other therapist says it's okay for said client to take drugs if he takes them mindfully. Yeah, I'm angry. I'm a recovering person. Incidentally, one of these two therapists stood and watched client take drug as they parted together. In the end, therapist who was with her own client when he took the drug, who kissed him if the one who walked out angry at doctor, taking the high ground. This, while they normalize drags. What a way to ruin a show. It SUCKS. It's Australia-much is behind this kind of programming-it's not by mistake.
Binge Warning
Collyns21 February 2022
Draws you in with the human interest stories, the quirky characters without the perfect teeth/body/clothes Americanization that renders most programs unwatchable. The cinematography is wonderful with the sweeping panoramas playing a major starring role and rightly so. This show has history, drama, geography, multi-cultural themes that don't feel force fed. Yes, there is some weak acting and confusing story lines. It grows on you though and keeps you wanting more. The issues the characters deal with have a surprisingly wide range. I found it entertaining and enjoyable, sincerely hope its picked up for a second season.

... typical yet enjoyable

... if you've watch any Australian programming you'll probably be familiar with several of these cast members... they're all good actors and easily up to the task here... production values are good, and the script although fairly predictable does entertain... it's a likable medical-drama from the land-down-under... ended with an eye on S2... fair to say most viewers will await its continuation.
Relaxing time with your Spouse

This show has a very relaxing tempo. A female doctor leave a personal scandal in England to a more relaxed yet adventurous life in Australia.
The show honestly approaches moral issues, in a relaxed yet entertaining way.
Its like: ER = In a Plane = In Australia (Enough said)

Is this the same show as the first one?

What the heck happened? Loved the first series. It was so darned good. Loved the characters & storylines but apparently being sold overseas means that what ain't broke they fixed it & not so well! It was an 8/10
Now: Over dramatic. Over the top medical procedures. It just does not feel like the same show even with the same characters.
It appears that with eyes now on this show overseas they've created a new show. Sadly it's disappointing and rather corny.
Please bring back the original show!
It's a great showcase for Australia but I'm just not so excited to watch it now.

Hoping for Season 2
wdtinsley29 January 2022
I suppose I'm not as discerning as some other reviewers who cited, poor acting, storyline and whatnot, but I thoroughly enjoyed the series and it only got better as it progressed. I'm definitely hoping for a second helping.
Loved every second of it.

Please tell me season 2 is on its way. I absolutely loved it. Ofcourse being a huge fan of. Steve Peacocke helps. The interaction between him and Emma Hamilton is wonderful.
But obviously love the other actors as well.

Royal Flying Doctor Service (RYDS)
So, how would it compare to the iconic Flying Doctors series of the 1980s?
Well, apart from one instance in the first series, it is very much the same.
The one instance being the morality and integrity of the original Flying Doctors was cast to the wind with the new female doctor bedding a male nurse on her first night. No Geoff/Kate, will they/won't they here! Nor furtive glances and knowing looks over God knows how many series.
And oh, how contemporary, the obligatory same-sex scenario we see in everything else ... boring!
In the end it was very tedious with modern day cliched storylines that became very tedious. I was glad it finished. My wife saw it through to the end but I would have given up half way through.
On the medical side, it was pretty gruesome at times and the medical dialogue was too detailed and esoteric.
His BP is 100 over 80, dilating hexachlryphen in the two faced alternating snuffle unit, we're losing him, no he's back ... shoot him up with 100 milligrams of ketamine ... How did that nurse keep his job after giving 1000% more than he should have?? And how did the patient survive?

Totally absorbing series

I love this show and am thrilled that it's been renewed for a third season! I just hope I won't have to wait as long I did between series one and two. The treatment of the relations between the indigenous characters and the "whites" seems very realistic to me. Apart from Taketsubo syndrome, I have no idea if the medical stuff is accurate but the cast certainly sells it! Adding Chara's character to season two was a great idea. Some reviews describe this series as light. In a sense it is because the main characters aren't dark or grim, but they are complex and not without flaws for the most part.
Thoroughly enjoyed the 2021 series

We are so glad the 2023 series is now showing! It was made even better by having many staff from the Port Augusta RFDS invite me to watch the first episode on Tuesday 15th August on the big screen at the Pastoral Hotel with them. We had doctors, Nurses, Pilots dental assistants and Mental health workers, and Radio operators all join in for the viewing. When Port Augusta got a mention in the script, a massive cheer went up from our table. The general consensus was that the detail shown in the events portrayed, although really graphic, exhibited an accurate depiction of the procedures required. Highly recommended viewing.
