Sex & Nudity

  • There's sexual references, though no actual nudity or sexual activity shown. A song in the play is based around a sexual fantasy, but overall is non-explicit.

Violence & Gore

  • The central conflict of the film is bullying, and also an (accidental) death. Though this is carried further by hiding a body and supernatural haunting. There are characters killed (all off-screen) by the entity, which is depicted as a rotting corpse. Though given it is after all a comedy, the make-up work is not very gruesome. There are verbal descriptions of mutilations and over-the-top crime scenes.

Profanity

  • There is profanity throughout, including around 75 uses of "fuck", as well as frequent uses of other strong profanity ("shit", "goddamn", "bitch", etc.). Some strong sexual references (including one use of the word "cum").

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • During the song "Hatchet Town", Karen Chasity accuses cameo character Ziggy of being a drug mule selling narcotics to the town's children.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • While this is a horror comedy, this is not a frightening musical. There are some moments of sincere emotion, but nothing so intense that would break the overall comedic atmosphere of the play.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Richie's death is the one truly horrifying scene in the Hatchetfield trilogy (not counting nightmare time), however nothing is shown.
  • The lords in black can be quite haunting to younger viewers.
