Fun mockumentary
BandSAboutMovies7 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Marathon is the story of the Devil's Canyon Marathon, an underfunded local race organized by shoe store owner Ed Clap.

Starting three months before the actual event, we meet the runners, see how they train and learn so much about their lives in mockumentary style. There's Ryan O'Brien, who missed last year's Boston Marathon by nine seconds. Jenna Kowalski, a woman who wants to set the world record for fastest marathon time dressed as a fruit. New mother Abby Dozier, bullied black man Shareef Washington and Emilou Paunch, whose life gets better when she quits thirty seconds into getting ready for a marathon.

Now, it's time for everyone to get running. Except Emilou. She's doing just great staying home.

Directors Anthony Guidubaldi and Keith Strausbaugh have a great crew of actors to tell their story, featuring Las Vegas-based comedians from shows at Cirque du Soleil, Absinthe, Second City and Blue Man Group and Los Angeles improv actors from Upright CItizen's Brigade.

I do love films in this genre and this is a fine example. If you need a laugh, check it out. I mean, how many movies will you see with bananas running through the desert?

Believe the bad reviews... this is TERRIBLE
juboy704 August 2021
Any score over 2 stars must be either paid for or written by people connected to this film. It is literally awful. Not funny on any level and with a group of dismal characters. The premise itself *could* have lent itself to a decent film, but this is the opposite of that. Honestly, you have no idea how bad this film really is.

Unfunny and not clever

I like mockumentaries, but this one is a travesty. I don't blame the actors, because I think most of them did the best they could, but the writing is terrible. There are no funny jokes, and the characters are just the worst kind of stereotypes. I'm not sure how a movie that's not even 90 minutes could take as long as it did.

Loved this show

Better than most SNL skits. Great characters, funny jokes and personalities ... we had a great time watching this and the chaos of the race and the drama filled ending. Good chemistry between actors... I kept wondering why I have never heard of these actors before ... they deserve a national stage. Well done.

Fantastic

This movie was hilarious. If you like mockumentary stuff like Trailer Park Boys then this is right up your alley. I was laughing out loud pretty consistently throughout the entire film. I'm sure people really into running will find this funny too, I'm betting you can pick a few of the characters and find some real life counterparts you may have met while running.

Clever mockumentary on running marathons...and human nature
Funnygirl258 July 2021
Excellent mockumentary focusing on 5 characters with unique motivations and inspirations for running marathons (or not running them as in the case of couch potato Emilou Paunch). Sometimes ridiculous, sometimes poignant, the improbable yet endearing Devil's Canyon Marathon hopefuls will capture your imagination and heart - Jenna Kowalski's romance with product placement actor Ben Duffy as they strive to run the marathon in banana costumes, Shareed Washington's battles with his sister as well as systemic racism, Ryan O'Brien's hilarious self-absorption and devastating injury, and Abby Dozier's adjustment to new motherhood while training for a marathon - all will make you giggle and laugh out loud as they struggle to reach their goals. Totally enjoyable!

What is this garbage?!
BudoSenpai5 January 2023
Is this supposed to be funny?! The only person(s) that would say this is fantastic, is someone who was a part of this crap! I couldn't get past 10 minutes of this boring piss poor writing! Even the actors look like they were having a hard time trying to actually enjoy delivering their corny lines. This is proof that anyone can just put together some garbage and upload it on the many platforms that are available to these amateurs. Stop it! You're wasting everyone's time and perhaps hard earned dollars. People will only become upset when they realize they have been ripped off with nonsense like this. And it really angers us when we see someone add a review saying it's fantastic!
