Worth Watching for Longmire Fans
donnahalper28 November 2015
One of the great things about watching services like Hulu and Netflix is you can find old episodes of programs that feature current stars in their younger years. City Homicide is an Australian police procedural that I found on Hulu, and the majority of its episodes are every bit as interesting and well-acted as "Law and Order." (It does have somewhat more on-screen violence than Law and Order, but the violence is rarely gratuitous.) In this one, we get to see Robert Taylor when he was still acting in Australian-made dramas. Today, he plays sheriff Walt Longmire, on the former A&E and current Netflix series "Longmire," and he speaks with a flawless American accent. Having only known him from that series, it was quite entertaining to see him seven years earlier, speaking with his native Australian accent.

Here, Robert Taylor plays Kevin Steele, an angry and embittered former Iraq War veteran and military contractor who suffers from PTSD. Taylor is the master of the impassive facial expression -- on both Longmire and this 2008 episode, his character is often difficult to read, yet there are many emotions under the surface. For those accustomed to Taylor playing the role of a heroic but taciturn law enforcement officer in Longmire, it's fascinating to see him as a troubled veteran with anger-management issues. For that alone, this episode is worth watching. Over all, this is a good episode, although not one of City Homicide's best. However, I can still recommend it, and also recommend the rest of the episodes I have watched thus far.
