a precious gift

The fascination is the basic and precious gift of direct to public. The fluidity of drawings, the mix of senses, the profound meanings , the great portraits of obscure in its precise clarity reality near us. A sort of pure magic , preserving not images but only states of childhood.

Brilliant animated piece, even if the content didn't work as well for me

I'll let others talk about the content of this, because for me it didn't really click. There are things about child birth and life within this, but it didn't engage me with that aspect. What it did do though was hold me enthralled at the concept of the film and how well the good idea had been brought to life. It works with images that can appear to be two things at once - for example the famous optical illusion of the two women looking at each other, which could also be a picture of a vase if you focus on the space in between. It takes this idea and runs across the entire film. It helps itself by moving perspective to help the images transition - but for the vast majority of them, the jump occurs naturally as the viewer realises that the shape we were just watching, has a secondary element which is now taking over.

It is very pleasing to watch because of how well done it is and how clever it all is. In terms of meaning it may have not connected with me, but as a piece of animation it is well worth watching on the basis of the idea and the delivery.
