THE REEL THING is a short film about a young lady who works at a video store and longs to have a relationship. However, she's rather shy and many guys don't notice her. The only one who does, is just too shy himself to ask her out and he comes up with lots of excuses to stop by. When a fortune teller gives her some advice, it all turns out wrong, as she didn't have the faith to just be herself. Can she find the right guy or is she destined to remain alone....forever.
This is a sweet little romantic comedy that I could easily see being expanded into a longer film, as after it was over I wanted more! Now it's easy to point out the flaws of the film--after all, it was by a new director and it's obvious that the budget was quite small (especially in the oddest restaurant scene I have ever seen). However, picking on these points isn't fair--after all, it's a work in progress and people have to start somewhere. And, speaking of starting somewhere, the film managed to start at a very high level indeed, with nice dialog, very likable characters and and interesting plot.
