- A man is trying to force himself on a woman; however, another man intervenes.
- At the begining a woman is seen changing out of her wedding dress. She is only seen in her under garments (bloomer type bottoms, and top).

- The crew of the Ghost are seal hunters, so there are several scenes of seals getting shot and butchered.
- Women are physically assaulted by men on two occasions, though in both cases, someone intervenes.
- A young man falls down the stairs to the upper deck and seriously injures his knee. He cries out in pain and is seen limping for some time afterward.
- A man sharpens his knife, with the intent to intimidate another man.
- A man is slashed in the arm by another man with a knife.
- A gunfight erupts when a rival ship arrives to try to take over a pod of seals being hunted. Many people and seals are shot and killed, though mostly seen from a distance. One man is seen up close getting hit in the arm.
- A man is hung upside down by his feet; blood is dripping from his head. He is later cut down and strikes his head hard on the edge of a hatch. Upon struggling to his feet, he is found to be blind as a result of a stroke. He is taken below and beaten by another man.
- A man intervenes to assist a woman being assaulted, and her assailant pushes him away so hard that he topples over the ship's rail into the water.

- The Lord's name is taken in vain more than once. Also fairly mild expletives such as "bastard." No f-words.

- The captin is an unpredictable, sociopathic sadist who toys with the lives and well-being of his crew like a cat toying with a mouse, creating a nearly unbearable sense of tension at times.
- The captain suffers from intense, debilitating headaches which seem to drive him temporarily mad.
- A blind, ill man is abandoned aboard his ship. We see him struggling to sail it through a storm.
- Young boy is forced to climb up into the rigging of a ship, and he is terrified. He is stuck up there for hours before managing to come down.

Sex & Nudity
- No sex or graphic nudity in movie. Some men seen without shirts.
- A man forcibly tries to kiss a woman; she resists, and someone else intervenes, but the man has a stroke and collapses.
Violence & Gore
- The captain punched and kicks another seaman, beating him until he falls to the deck. He is brought to the upper deck seriously injured and crying out in pain.
- A fight ensues below deck, with a mutinous crew assaulting and beating the captain. He kicks the light out and escapes.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
- A man lying on the deck of the ship is supposed to be drunk and unconscious; however, he is dead, and his body is sewn into a shroud and buried without ceremony at sea.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- The captain refuses to rescue two mutineers who are afloat in a small boat, begging to be taken aboard.
