Been seeing Chris since Eminem mentioned him, like a lot of his stuff on YouTube and like is last 2 Netflix specials. But this one is way behind. Maybe next time on a new special.

Not his best work, but worth watching..

You can tell he worked hard on this. Maybe a little too hard, because it seemed a little too rehearsed. Obviously it IS rehearsed because that's how comedy works, but what separates the greats from the good is making it feel new and off the cuff, even when it's not.
It's not a Bad special, it's just....more of the same. Worth watching, but I found myself almost skipping through the end of his rants. I feel like you could plug any one of these jokes in his last two specials and you wouldn't know the difference.
His podcast is Hilarious, probably because it's just free styling, but this left something more to be desired.
Worth watching, but you'd be better off watching his podcast for more laughs...

GETTING BETTER, WORTH A WATCH

Chris D'Elia has built up a pretty solid the fan base over the past few years, and quite rightly so, he's naturally a very funny guy. Much funnier than his previous stand up would suggest, because of that I'm sure he felt under immense pressure to deliver on this one, which he almost does...Theres a lot of bad reviews on here and I think that's in part to the opening bit which is by far the weakest bit in the whole special, it does get better after that and is definitely a decent stand up.
I have no doubt his next special will be better. I think Chris would absolutely shine in a Little Britain/Monty Python style sketch show...in fact yep thats what he should do next for sure because some of his insta videos are genius. I still don't understand why Bryan Callen's special hasn't been bought by Netflix for a lot of money because its amongst the best out of the la scene right now.

Almost unwatchable

The whole special was horrible and felt like it was rushed. Felt like he was really exaggerating his character. He has so much confidence that his body language almost convinces you what he's saying is funny when it isn't really. Very few laughs, which makes me wonder if they used a laugh track. He's gotten too famous to the point where people will laugh at him reading his text messages. Chris is funny when he's improvising with his friends on podcasts but not so with his stand up act. The first 15 mins are the hardest to watch. The whole bit is about how dumb babies are. He tends to stay on one topic too long, lots of filler. Him laughing at every one of his jokes doesn't help.
I guess hacky premises and bits and mediocre jokes is all you need to get a Netflix special nowadays.
Gave us a good laugh

Everyone who voted 1 star is overdramatic

This stand-up special is not terrible, there are some moments that make you smile and chuckle. 1 star is what I'd expect from an Amy Schumer special, but not Chris D'Elia. Everyone is saying Chris laughs at his own jokes because no one else is, but clearly they don't follow his other specials because that's his charm. Also, just like Norm MacDonald can explain a joke and its still funny, D'Elia (for me) can laugh at his own joke or overkill the joke and its still funny. This was his least funny special to me, but it wasn't bad. He's much funnier in person compared to this special. If you're a Chris D'Elia fan, you might be disappointed, but it's still worth the support.
Been a big fan for years

I've really enjoyed his past specials and his podcast is hilarious. This special was just bad. Where were the jokes? He talked about growling at a baby for 10 minutes. Very forced, hacky material. Maybe he's gotten too big.
Best Stand up!

Should have been called no laughs

Been a big fan and enjoyed his past specials. His podcast is hilarious. This was just bad. Chris preaches front loading specials with all his best material. He spent the first 10 minutes saying he growled at a baby. Material was hacky and he was forcing it on the audience. I couldn't even finish it. Maybe he's gotten too big.
Good Comedy Special, Not Sure Why There Are So Many 1 Star Reviews

Pros:
1. Chris D'Elia, as usual, has great stage presence. Especially as he has quite a physical presence.
2. The joke delivery is fantastic. Everything from his facial expressions, his changing of voice intonations, and his pausing in the right places.
3. Chris D'Elia's laughing at his own jokes is incredibly, but also strangely, endearing.
4. Some contentious issues - such as political correctness and race - are tackled, but done so in a manner which doesn't lose the comedic aspect, but it also conveys a point.
5. The comedy is utterly hilarious for the most part.
6. Chris D'Elia masterfully brings back old punchlines into new jokes, and it works wonderfully.
Cons: 1. For some bizarre reason, the camera never pans to the audience. This is a subjective point, but I enjoy seeing other people react to things I love, especially when it comes to comedy. 2. The gag regarding rapist and suicidal dolphins carries on for a little too long. 3. The comedy special ends up dragging towards the end, even though the total run-time is 55 minutes.

S'terrible!

Imagine trying to trick your audience into laughing with you by LOLing at your own jokes! Even though you tell the same jokes at every show you perform! Are they still that funny to Chris D'Elia the 100th time? Because they weren't even funny to me the first time!
Imagine claiming this is your BEST WORK and considering it your personal work of art! Sergeant Starfish is your masterpiece? EEEEEYES! You suck!
Overall, I would give it a 0 if I could. I'm a comedy lover, but this didn't even get a chuckle out of me. Also: false advertisement-this special caused me an immense amount of Pain.

Just Abysmal ...
kofoedoscar15 April 2020
I'm not sure what bunch of morons they dragged in to fill the audience (must be the livestock they use for late night talk shows), but absolutely nothing about this was remotely funny. This guy comes off as that one dude at a party who's coked out of mind thinking everything he says is hysterical when it's really just kind of sad. Stick to fondling kids in your spare time, Chris. Comedy a'int for you.
Interesting reviews

The majority of Netflix comedy specials that I randomly watch I am pretty sure in the first 5 minutes that I do not find it funny and by 10 minutes am sure and turn it off. I will admit in the first five I was on the fence but by 10 minutes I kept going and laughed out loud a few times. It was surprising to see the low ratings for this special it is almost as if there was a organized effort to hurt him. Incidentally, giving a score of "1" destroys any credibility and is more likely a measurement of the reviewers ability to understand complexities of the 1-10 scoring scale, meanness or dishonesty.
Please, dont waste time on this...

I never really write reviews but had to warn people not to waste an hour of time on this. I barely made it half way through as neither my wife or I cracked a single smile and just kept looking at each other Like, like, like, like (hes says that every other sentence) is this going to get better? Better luck next time big guy.
Do not waste your time

This just wasn't funny. Hacky jokes put back to back to fill up an hour and call it a comedy special.
The saddest part is that all these LA comics have created such an echo chamber that they actually think what they're putting out is good. Actual comedians that had opinions and pushed boundaries like George Carlin would be embarrassed by the LA comedy scene in general but especially by the popularity of hacky comedians like Chris D'Elia.

Solid special. Some reviews are really harsh and way over the top. This was funny, silly and enjoyable. Its not a masterpiece but definitely enjoyed it.
I feel like he is sooooo naturally funny on podcasts that some people might expect more from him. I've seen his other specials and I think this was more refined and more natural.
