Such small misconceptions can lead to such enormous disasters!

Warning: Spoilers
I had watched "Mere Khudaya" when it was airing on TV for the first time and I hardly remembered anything about the show, especially the ending. Very recently, I was scrolling through YouTube and I came across this series in my recommended list so therefore I finished all the episodes from the start to the end in just two or three days without any hesitation :D

"Mere Khudaya" concentrates on the lives of two friends, Mehak and Aleena, whom study in college together and also have very variant personalities, desire and looks. Mehak is an innocent and simple girl who actively puts her focus on her college studies. She has a loving mother, father and a younger brother. On the other hand, Aleena is a rather broad minded girl who is having an affair with a guy named Shahzad (who at the end quits his togetherness with Aleena when she is in trouble as he does not want to get involved in such a matter) and spends most of her time thinking about him and dreaming about her wedding with him rather than putting her thought on her studies. She has a loving mother and a brother who took the responsibility to take care of his sister when their father passed away.

Long story short, when Aleena forcibly takes Mehak to a meeting with Shahzad at a restaurant which she considers her very last one, Aleena's Brother, Kashif, discovers them walking out of that place with that guy. When he asks Aleena who that guy was and that why was she with him at the restaurant, Aleena puts the blame on Mehak: that he was Mehak's friend and not hers. When Mehak's Dad gets to know about this, he looses his damn mind and starts abusing his daughter and even threatens to kill her. Mehak gets in strict depression after witnessing this sudden change of behavior in her "loving" father, so she attempts to commit suicide by cutting the veins located in her wrist. After this slapstick, Mehak's parents all of a sudden gain this faith in their daughter that she would have never been a part of an affair with a guy and continue loving her. A story rather similar to this happens once again but this time it is because Aleena starts receiving threats from an unknown person who has messaged her. That person has collected all of her photos that she took with Shahzad and recordings in which she claimed him as her one and only love as evidence. Aleena believes that Mehak who knows all her secrets is the one who's blackmailing her and due to this one small misconception, she ends up destroying Mehak's entire life.To end this catastrophe, Zahid gets Mehak's marriage arranged with Qasim who is the owner of the store where he works at. Qasim is already a father of two kids and after the death of his wife, he is in need of a woman who is capable to take proper responsibility of his children.

The person who was blackmailing Aleena was not Mehak but none other than the van driver, Sajid. Sajid is a despicable, sinful, wicked man who is known to learn girl's secrets and blackmail them and eventually rape them. He was already imprisoned for raping an innocent girl before but somehow he was freed from prison (the reason was not explained in the show as far as I know) and is able to successfully go back to his home with his mother and his wife, Kiran. Kiran is already aware of Sajid's crime and sin so she decides to leave his house. But when she informs Sajid's mother about this, she immediately kicks him out of her house. Soon, his mother passes away and during the day of her funeral, Sajid approaches Kiran and makes up to her by showcasing a low estimate of the importance of his sin and a high estimate of Kiran's virtues. BUT, Sajid once again started collecting pictures and recordings of Aleena and at the appropriate time, blackmails her that if she doesn't do what he wants from her, he'll send over all the pictures and recordings to her brother. Sajid supposedly rapes Aleena, at least that is what the viewer can conclude by looking at the details. Because of course the "rape scene" was not showed and I am glad it wasn't.

Anyway, let's start with the review. I am sorry for making the synopsis of the story so lengthy which should probably not even be included in a "review". I just felt like including these details in this comment. So, as far as the acting goes, all the actors and actresses did a great job. I have started to really like Saboor Ali now. Hassan Niazi was never my favourite but no doubt he has a great sense of playing the role of vicious characters. Shahista Jabeen really brought tears in my eyes with her strong love for her daughter. The title song of "Mere Khudaya" sung by Rosemary Mushtaq is indeed the best part of this show. I have replayed the song countless times.

As for the storyline, it was going very well and right from the start I was hooked up with the show and was curious to know how it would end, how would Mehak's parents react after knowing that their daughter is innocent and was accused wrongly, how would Qasim and Mehak's relationship end up and what would happen to Sajid? And after watching the last episode, I was shattered. Very very disappointed but also kinda relieved to know that I have finished watching the series. I can not believe that Mehak was ready to spend her life with a guy who's her criminal. The man who repeatedly abused her, accused her of having affairs with a tuition teacher while KNOWING that he is not suspecting this and the worst part, he MURDERED Mehak's child, his own child, while she was pregnant due to a small misconception, was the man she ends ends with the "and they lived happily ever after". As for Mehak's Dad, he is without a doubt. He was first pretending to love his daughter so much and he suddenly started abusing her, cursing her and even threatening to kill her. And why? Only because she went out with a guy at a restaurant. I have never seen a more hypocritical man in my entire life. Any parent who would try to kill, abuse and disown their child and for such a small reason is evil, intolerant and sick. What could be more human than the love of a parent for their child? Not even Islam (the religion that fathers like Zahid use as an accuse for their bigotry) allows for this. And mentioning him is significant with the last episode because when Aleena admits her fault, her lies to Mehak's parents, Zahid without thought forgives Aleena and even allows her to live with them in their house. Another complain I have is some scenes lacking of being specific. For example that time when Kashif is viewing the video of Aleena screaming and him getting angry after watching it and attacking Aleena because of it. It left me very confusing as to why exactly he was so frustrated.

With that said, this drama was alright. Good actors and decent story which could have ended much better. It was an okay series but definitely not something that I will watch over and over again.
