Stranded on his island, hoping for rescue to civilization, Robinson Crusoe starts recalling how it all started. But he has to concentrate all his attention on an arriving ship, which alas proves not help but captain Lynch's pirates. The traps he set for savages probe useful, but he still ends up captured, unlike trusty native companion Friday. He's expected to help them find a golden canon, using a map tattooed on an old prate's back.

Robinson lets the pirates guess if he can find the treasure, truthfully denying he knows about it, and finally escapes by diving from a cliff. Friday believes he rids them of the pirates by attracting a Spanish coast garrison, but their captain teams up with the pirates provided capturing Crusoe also leads to the gold. It comes to a joint siege of Robinson's tree-house, and all hangs on improvising a gunpowder keg launch countermeasure.

Robinson recalls his marital past to explain why his wedding-band is so precious to him. It got lost while helping Friday trying to deal with a tormenting nightmare about a skull, which he believes to be the very one they find. The ritual cave yields a riddle-box, which they solve. It sets them on a treasure hunt-trail which proves perilous but leads to the tomb. There lurks more danger.

Robinson is hell-bent on risking everything to scape and, unlike Friday, wants at all cost to return to England, which requires precise navigation. So he must steal a compass from Will Atkins's mutineers before their ship is repaired ans sails away. That proves dangerous, but the lush ship surgeon's apprentice, who catches him, reveals to be a girl in disguise and equally desperate to escape, so they team up.

Whilesetting up traps for wild pigs, Crusoe discovers a long boat on the beach, indicating the cannibals he saved Friday from have returned. They track down the ritual execution site and evidence it was used again recently. They find the murderous gang and liberate one of their unrecognizably suit-covered victims. It's none other then their former persecutor, Spanish officer Santos Santana, who claims to be reformed by his companion. Crusoe is convinced, Friday slower but turns away when told the other, which Santane wants to save at all cost, is a certain Baillom- Friday's dad.

Robinson finds Friday has gone crazy and hostile after being poisoned. He sneaks into the mutineers' camp to consult medical literature and steal a cure, but has to do with Olivia's advice and half-hearted help to harvest the herbal antidote. That proves almost as dangerous as forcibly administering it to the berserk patient.

The mutineers have repaired captain Taylor's ship weeks earlier then Robinson anticipated, so everything must be speeded up. His plan to overtake the mutineers' cruel leader Will Atkins was betrayed. Robnson's party escapes and tries again to convince enough men returning to England with Taylor's pardon is better then a proscribed life under Atkins's tyranny. After a literally painful duel of wits and arms, Robinson is to taste both success and bitter disappointment.

Robinson's engineering insight triumphs over Friday's in a series of tests which the natives use as initiation rite for warriors. After Friday admits he failed the courage test in a crocodile-infested water, thus disappointing his pa and the whole tribe, Robinson is determined to find a way to 'catch up'. An accident initiates a frightfully twist.
