Overall great episode but....

Kudos to the show for fixing a problem that was increasing with every episode. I loved the character and idea of Eve, but I wasn't really buying the actors' chemistry together. But the concept! Can a romance happen and last between the son of a murderer who murders for the love of murder and one of his victim's sister? Truly an intriguing question! Of course, Malcolm, like every handsome, brooding main character in a tv show can't have lasting long term relationships, so we knew it wasn't going to be long he and Eve were together but even this on screen relationship was shorter than most!

Perhaps the voicemail should have been written better, because I actually disagree that it was a romantic breakup message let alone a "clear" one. To me it's more a "our search together for my sister is something I'm doing alone, we'll see about us when I'm done." Perhaps there will be more revealed about this later, because a voicemail break up seems out of Eve's character as she did want to confront Malcom with the truth about her sister, and only turned to a note when it seemed like she wouldn't be listened to and she was already despised by the family. I don't know, but I disagree it was a clear romantic breakup, and I'm hoping there will be more to this later because even lacking actor chemistry, the relationship and the character deserve a better end than that!

Thrilling though, to see our boy (hindered through his grief) defend our dearly departed Eve for not being a suicide and catch the loaded weapon albeit the real murderer is still at large. Great lead up to a season finale.

I know the Gil and Jessica romance was led into, and I don't have a problem with it happening (technically Gil is Malcom's "dad" in all the ways that term matters) but I wasn't thrilled with it happening how it happened (Jessica being so vulnerable) and in this episode with everything else going on!

AND GOODNESS! This is what I'm talking about with the overdramatic and even melodramatic elements!

1. Why is the assassin trying to strangle Dr. Martin Whitly? Of all the ways to kill him, that seems stupid! Especially as I see Endicott as the kind of guy who would ensure Whitly see every punishment threatened to come about should Whitly break their deal actually come about.

2. And WHY is the police department literally breaking through Malcolm's door to arrest him at the end? I understand them arresting him, of course, but the theatrics of breaking down the door with SWATT are over the top!

Guys, don't let me down next episode, ok?

DOUBLE YOUR TROUBLE

Warning: Spoilers
We get to enjoy Sheen and Mulroney playing VERY creepy villains. Great scene when the assassin tries to whack The Surgeon. A decent plot (littered with some psycho-babble) becomes vibrant with terrific performances. Nicolas Endicott's fine wine palate makes for another two fine scenes. I hope they keep this story fresh and not veer into quacking about the homeless crisis or saving rain forests.

Crazy Ending !

Warning: Spoilers
I knew Dermot Mulroney was bad as soon as I saw him in the last episode. It's sad what happened to Eve and that she didn't get closure. The ending of this episode shocked the hell out of me and now I'm anxious for next week.

Really...breaking down the door???
dlk267715 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
So overall I have given this series a 10 but this episode is NOT a 10, I've given it a very generous 6. The last 5 minutes of this episode ruined it!

In my overall review I was, and am, very critical of how the "team" treats Malcolm. He is an extremely educated and highly gifted profiler. He turned in his own father. Has helped this team solve case after case after case but whenever the wind blows the wrong direction they question Malcolm, question his ethics, sanity, loyalty. This episode here is the PERFECT example. Why on earth would they kick down his door and break into his home??? He is your team member and moreover he is supposed to be your friend! Benefit of the doubt!! Come over, knock on the door, ask him to come to the station ASK him IF he did it. If he doesn't answer the door or refuses to answer. Sure by all means kick in the door. Furthermore, you really think Malcolm with all his intelligence went to the hospital with ALL the witnesses, signed in to the room and killed the guy. Left all that evidence on the body. Walked past the guards stationed outside while the alarm bells were going off because the guy was coding (he's hooked up to all those monitors in the hospital bed ... I guess none of them went off while Malcolm was choking the dude out, really!) and Malcolm just went home. Also knowing Malcolm didn't want his dad to kill him bc he needs this guy alive to implicate Nicolas Endicott so of all people Malcolm would never kill him. Ummm okay. Who would really want the killer dead...Malcolm or Nicolas? Obviously Nicolas. If I were Malcolm I would find another job and NEVER SPEAK TO ANY OF THESE DISLOYAL, TRAITRESS, JERKS AGAIN!

The Professionals
Prismark105 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Nicolas Endicott is certainly the big bad of this series and it does not take long for the Whitlys to realise this.

Malcolm is shocked to find that Eve is dead so soon after she learned of her sister's fate.

Eve's death is regarded as a suicide. Malcolm believes it is murder. Endicott sent in the assassin.

Flashbacks are used to see Dr Whitly and Endicott reaching an understanding soon after Whitly was arrested.

Some of the methods of the assassins were questionable. Either going for a prolonged route such as a strangulation or killing at such a public place like a train station.

Not very professional.
