Absolutely hilarious
lesleybrincat4 December 2022
Loved this movie. Laughed the whole way through.

We all have an father/ uncle named Joe or Charlie. We were brought up to pray to St. Anthony to find something we have lost.

We all experienced the banter, the comical representation of westernised sayings and quotes slightly manipulated by the Maltese interpretation and strong accent.

The Galea brothers did an great job communicating what it was like to grow up in a Maltese family very well. A family that migrated to another country like Australia to make a better life for their families.

Finally a movie I can truly relate to.

Absolutely hilarious. Highly recommend Especially for Generation X we can really relate to this.

Great Movie
fujumagic8 December 2022
I took my mum and mother in law to see the movie. We laughed from start to finish. Loved all the Maltese references, especially 'The Maldives' reference. It's really nice to see movies being made for the Maltese community as this is rare. Hopefully the movie will be released in Melbourne again as I am sure the Maltese community in the west would support it. Would love for the producer to create a movie in Maltese next. Is there any chance of this happening? Would recommend to all 2nd generation Maltese.

Go and see the movie - you won't be disappointed. Thank you to Julian and the family, including Roxy.

Very funny
jlslinger14 March 2023
I wasnt sure what to expect from this movie. Once it started i related straight away to many of the scenes between the brothers.

Loved watching Brothers from Malta! Very funny and I could relate to many of the conversations in the movie. My kids absolutely loved it too, many things reminded them of what their nunnu does!

Those who attended the viewing in Mackay were not disappointed.

Best of all, it was all about family and how important they are to us.

Get yourself out to see this movie, you'll leave feeling so good from all the funny scenes of typical Maltese conversations.

Waiting for the DVD to be available.

Hilarious road movie that transcends ALL cultures - not just Maltese!
louisemoellerenterprises12 December 2022
Fabulous, fun ... and you don't have to be Maltese to love it! So many classic family and sibling situations that are so funny and are so relatable across all cultures (even had my German husband laughing and nodding throughout).

It's heart-warming entertainment pure, with deep family messages and yes, there's a dog in it too.

The authenticity of the film is so apparent in so many little aspects - from the absolutely authentic Maltese characters and their accents to the old family photos from Malta, and also the interior decorating style of Jo's home.

This is definitely the best way to embrace your inner Maltese in a cinematic way. A good-feel movie with cultural depth and a big warm Maltese heart!

All that leaves to be said is that I'm now waiting for "Brothers from Malta 2: Roxie rules".

Maltese Comedy at its best !
musl-214505 December 2022
What a great story about two hard headed brothers with a soft heart brought together by a loving sister . It defines the Maltese culture. Caring, loving, with a twist of hot temper and stubbornness. When you sit back listening carefully you get to absorb and understand the funny punch lines that where so cleverly put together. I highly recommend that every Maltese or Maltese connected person to go and see brothers from Malta. I probably would have liked to see a little more relating to the father and mother and a little more dialogue in Maltese however for a low budget movie with a small cast the Galeas managed to get the point across. " life is too short to hold a grudge"

Proset.

Relatable even if you're not Maltese
pdnxh2 February 2023
Just watched this very funny movie and highly recommend if your Maltese or not... most people know at least one Maltese person in their lives and Julian and James have depicted their real life family members in a well written, entertaining and edited movie. I'm Maltese and found it wonderful to finally relate to characters on a big screen from my mother land. I thought the story line was clever and could imagine these two Maltese gents taking a real trip like the one in the movie. Even the cute dog in film was a star! Great to see Julian bring these characters to main stream and keep the Maltese culture in Australia alive. Thankyou Julian and James.

So Good....The Art of Film Making Returns!!
Indie_Buff3 December 2022
Thoroughly entertaining, heartfelt moments, and a bunch of laughs along the way.......what's not to like about this great film!!!

Congratulations to Julian for capturing a film which I'm sure will resonate with many. Whilst watching the movie I found myself making comparisons to my own family, stirring up some of those great family moments and memories. A testament to Julian's ability to be able to create a film which truly connects with the viewer

A film based on pure entertainment, genuine and clever screenwriting and one which sparks emotion, whilst maintaining that comedic touch.

Great to be able to watch a movie which returns to the art of genuine film making......loved it!!!

Well done
maryaqua2 December 2022
I was fortunate enough to be able to see this movie on opening night. The theatre was packed and it was such a good vibe. Right from the start it had me in laugher. I loved all the characters and Roxy the dog was adorable. The story line hit home on just how important family ties are and that no matter what happens that bond will always be there. Great feel good movie and Julian thought of everything. Well done and thanks for bringing a little bit of Malta to the big screen. Highly recommend you go and see this movie. You will not regret it. I will definitely be seeing it again and taking my friends.

Hugely humorous and entertaining!
ronnyboustani2 December 2022
A hugely humorous and entertaining film!

With the roller coaster ride of bothers forced to re-connect on an unexpected adventure across California, I couldn't help but feel nostalgic viewing the scenes and shining moments which reminded me of TWINS (1988 film) and some of the past greats! The take on Maltese cross-cultural humour really resonates and is a must see for the whole family of every ethnicity. The film is certainly worthy of follow-on to capture the next life changing episodes these hilarious brothers embark on...I hope a sequel is in the making?! Great storyline, characters and production...Well done!

Absolutely loved it
cbaldacc-768434 December 2022
We loved Brothers From Malta, the whole cinema was loving it with many laughs along the way. This film will bring back many of your childhood memories from Malta. Definitely worth going to see.

There are a couple of Maltese words during the movie and when I was translating them to my boys they could not stop laughing. Julian has dove a great job in making this film, can't wait for more to come. The cinema I was at was quite full with people with Maltese heritage and they all loved it. If you get a chance go and see this while it's there it at the selected cinemas, take your parents as they will love it for sure.

Awesome Aussie/Maltese Indi Film
bkdtreats5 December 2022
Went to see this premiere last night of the feature film after being a fan of the YouTube series. I was blown away I didn't expect it, being a indi film, looked like a studio to me.

Smart script obviously skewed to a Maltese audience but being of an ethnic culture it was like sitting in my family room. Great banter between the two brothers that kept us all laughing and the Maltese cracking up!!

Joe reminds me so much of Maltese mates dad growing up, the accents were so authentic.

It's great to see some diversity in Julian's ability as a film maker when both good first feature films were romantic movies, so well done Julian!

I recommend you give out a go...

A tender and unique perspective on Maltese culture
ybcjnj2 February 2023
This film could only have been made by the first generation Australian children of Maltese immigrants. It is only that generation that will live within their parents' culture and yet observe it through Australian eyes. The Galea brothers have done that perfectly and produced a funny, warm-hearted delight.

Sure it's low budget but the film lacks for nothing in terms of an engaging plot, well developed characters, exploration of difficult emotional baggage and long-standing fraternal tensions. As the spouse of such a first generation Maltese Aussie, it was all very relatable. I hope it is screened again so that our sons (who also have great fun imitating Maltese accents and expressions together) get a chance to see it.

A great narrative of our Maltese cultural traits
nicoleoborne5 December 2022
It was wonderful to experience the full-house Melbourne screening of this movie - the movie is very relatable as a first generation Australian/Maltese and captures some of our authentic cultural traits with humility and humour, while respecting the boundaries of comedy, with a good story line - the family production of this movie is a wonderful achievement and the connectivity with Julian on the day to hear how this was all achieved was fantastic.

May the support and funding continue to showcase and appreciate the Maltese culture and how it is embedded across the world for many generations to come and hopefully, a series or this narrative!

So uplifting ...
alonsod-716335 December 2022
What a great insight in the Maltese culture. The connections were bloody hilarious and really confirms the very distinct attributes of the Maltese. Two Brothers from Malta made me feel proud to be Maltese. We are who we are and to see in on the big screen was a comfort and a great laugh. The loudness, the abruptness and most important the good heart behind the yelling all makes sense. So, I keep telling my Spanish husband when he asked me to whisper, my reply ... I am Maltese, I can't whisper. I can't wait to see another Maltese movie, we are a special unique breed and I enjoyed celebrating that while watching Two Brothers from Malta.

Future classic! Must see.
littlehen-599513 December 2022
In typical Maltese fashion I rounded up my cousins and we eagerly bought tickets to see this movie. We were thoroughly entertained and enjoyed every minute.

It captures the Maltese/Aussie upbringing of a generation, raised with a good dose of humour, religion, music and cursing!

Throw in American scenery, a scene stealing dog and a stunning classic Valiant ute, this movie has it all.

Totally relatable story with nostalgic scenes, music, drama and of course hilarious scenes with the audience erupting into laughter.

Beautifully written and performances were outstanding.

Thanks for a fun night out at the cinema, would happily watch again. Would love to see a sequel!

Sensational movie, it's a must see!!!
joes-605066 December 2022
I saw this movie here in Melbourne and can only wish that it screens again, I want to take all of my Maltese family and relatives to see it. The story line was remarkable, it was very emotional at times which showed the true culture of the Maltese people and it was also very funny again showing the great sense of humor we have. I have so many favorite parts but that will just about sum up the whole movie, however the use of original home movies at the start was sensational. Another part which I really enjoyed was the Q&A after the screening. The talent that all three main characters portrayed was outstanding and the rest of the cast played their part exceptionally well. I rated it 10 stars because it didn't allow for any more!!!

A sentimental Gem
JasonMir3 December 2022
I felt like I was watching my own family up there, it almost brought a tear to my eye.

Well done Julian for being able to show us the fundamental importance of the family unit, (even a dysfunctional one like Joe & Charlie) and then mix it in with some very light hearted rancour that played on the multicultural antics of Maltese people living in a Western country like Australia or the US.

A must watch movie for those who still appreciate a well thought out story and script and who dread having to watch another meaningless empty Hollywood Sci-fi superhero movie which seems to be in the majority these days.

So fun!! Delightful film!
ice19032 February 2023
Such a delightful, hilarious film!! Lots laugh out loud lines and moments! Think we'll be quoting the movie for a while to come! "I'M THE ELDEST!!" Will play well with Maltese audiences, but plenary to enjoy for those of us who are new to Maltese culture. Bravo to the Galea filmmakers, I really look forward to seeing what they do next! And I want to see Julian's other films. Such a solid early film. And LA looks so stylish. It reminded me a bit of the Jon Favreau/Doug Liman film 'Swingers,' especially between the production design and the beautiful '63 convertible! Keep up the really great work!

It was like a day with my family...

Warning: Spoilers
Absolutely loved this film. I took my brothers, cousin and my dad to see it in Brisbane and it was fantastic. From the opening scene, to the last. It depicts the Maltese culture, in particular, the Maltese men, so well, because it's so true, so quirky and so Maltese. It was like sitting down and watching my family on any given regular day. The sweeping. The silent treatment while still living practically in the same house. The dog. The love for cars, even if it belongs to some stranger who has no idea what they're doing, because then the inherent Maltese Mechanic can shine! The Galea brothers, and everyone else who was involved in making this film, hit the nail on the head and I can't recommend it enough.

Warning: Spoilers
What a fantastic movie if I could give 20 out of 10 I would. My partner and I laughed so much. I wish there was more, we wanted to see more. I hope in the future there will be more movies from the maltese brothers because they have our support and I hope many more support them. It was just wonderful to see a movie from our background and culture. We will be going to watch it again and this time I will be taking family along because I know they will enjoy it as much as we did last night. Thankyou again to the maltese brothers for putting a funny feel good movie, its what this world needs more of 🙏

Love love love it!
damienc-904152 December 2022
One of the best things about this movie is that it's so relatable to me being from a Maltese background. We all have those moments (many of them having to do with our families ) that make us realise how important family is. Regardless of your situation, joe and Charlie are your typical (Maltese) brothers, they show you through their journey that blood is thicker than water. You can't help but laugh hysterically at their expense.

A must-watch!

Artful, HILARIOUS and entirely relatable
nataleaiskra3 February 2023
One of the best Australian independent movies I've seen. The comedic tone ranges throughout the movie from subdued through to uproarious (I apologise to my fellow cinema goers for my uncontainable squeals of delight and guttural guffaws). Pure gold.

It's a tightrope walk to create art that draws out the humour specific to a culture, while being entirely culturally respectful at the same time. This movie aces it.

Don't let the title of the movie fool you. You don't need to be Maltese to enjoy it. If you appreciate interesting perspectives and authentic characters, portrayed with spirit, heart and filmic mastery, go check it out. I promise you'll love it.

For me, the sibling tension was the highlight. I understand, I really do. Who doesn't, right? That push and pull between caring immensely for, and feeling utterly frustrated by, a different expression of the DNA you've inherited. A universally experienced tension. I love those precious moments in the movie where the brothers forget their rivalry and synchronise under the influence of a suggestion of the fabric of their bonds: the Maltese music in the car, for example.

And the dog! I was blessed to attend a screening at the Ritz Cinema, Randwick, last night and to engage in a Q&A with Julian and James Galea. They both explained that the dog was not sedated, she is just like that. I believe them. These guys are so honest in their artistic expression; earnest and playful all at once. A brilliant mix. True brilliance.

Clever and Comedic cinema!
benjaminbhanly2 December 2022
The best thing to do is sit back and soak it in.

These real life brothers don another special layer of cultural character for Brothers Of Malta that takes the film special places.

Humour, relationship, scenery and plot twists drive the entertainment.

Of course a classic car in the California sun is another 'driving' element!

For a film that was shot with nothing short of resourcefulness, Julian especially, with the inclusion of James, a cool cast and a killer team of committed crew; produced a highly watchable film that had me laughing and smiling beyond my expectations.

This film is a superb portrayal of diversity, family and the differences that both divide and bring us together - Something I truly felt as an audience member.

True humour!
rjcauchi27 February 2023
If you need to have a laugh, watch this movie as soon as possible. The Australian and Maltese cultures clash at the seems for these two Maltese born and bred brothers who are as stubborn as they come! The message of love from under the loud external voices is profound and genuine. I loved the scenes from the States and the old super 8 videos that were used, that we all have in a box in our wardrobes. Who would have thought they would ever hit the big screen? The movie brings the past into the present so that we can learn and move forward with our baggage that everyone has! Just eat some humble pie! 😉😉😉😉
