Fall Brawl 1995: War Games Thoughts
Fall Brawl 1995: War Games was the 3rd Annual Fall Brawl Event produced by WCW. It took place on September 17, 1995 from the Asheville Civic Center in Asheville, North Carolina. Attendence of 6,600, this would be the first WCW PPV of the Monday Night War era after the competitive ratings rivalry between WWF/E and WCW Kicked off 2 weeks earlier.
The Good - The opening was without a doubt the best match of the night. It was solid. 30 minute back and forth matches were not that often seen in the US Promotions around this time and the crowd really looked amazed from start to finish. Ric Flair vs. Arn Anderson was also really good. I like how personal it was from the storyline. Finish was a bit cheap but it didn't hurt it. Oh and a hilarious promo by Paul Orndorff. Pretty good work.
The Meh - The WCW TV Championship I found decent but it was hard watching The Renegade. Terrible wrestler with a clearly cheap knockoff gimmick.
The Bad - Main Event was a dud. Probably the worst War Games match in history. The storyline was stupid of Hogan just wanting 5 minutes with Kevin Sullivan. Also the heel side was awful as a whole. The Tag Team match went on way too long and it was very dragging. Harlem Heat was better than this to be booked into this. Worst match was obviously Cobra vs Pittman and it's nothing to discusse cause nothing really happened.
Overall - PPV really got only 2 weeks of buildup after the new era and there wasn't really anything special. Was more of a filler show due to more action going the next weeks prior to Nitro. Below-average show.
