Hail the Conquering Hero

There was more drama and less comedy in this first episode of Shine on Harvey Moon.

It is November 1945 and Harvey Moon (Kenneth Cranham) returns to a bombed out London while being away for the war effort. An army clerk in Bombay.

He finds his wife Rita was helping the war effort by sleeping with the allied soldiers in exchange for nylon stockings and Hershey bars. She is not best pleased to have him back.

His daughter has grown up and his son is now 10 years old and excited to have dad back. Harvey is not too pleased with the American slang being bandied about though.

The cast are all uniformly excellent, this was always a well acted show. There was some nice exterior shots of ruined homes but it seems they were the result of a gas explosion than the doodlebug.
