In this episode, Peter Parker/Spider-Man tackled his quite possibly strongest foe yet, Flint Marko aka the Sandman, who after a freak accident can transform completely into sand at will.
That being said, Marko is pretty dumb and never uses his powers to their full extend. In this episode, the Sandman steals a radioactive foil sample which makes him even stronger (which was not needed to begin with because he's already ridiculously overpowered). So the Sandman is getting powered up and despite being able to just squash the city with a giant sand fist, he still resorts to steal money and jewelry.
There's a subplot with another original character called Sally Ann Beaumont, a fellow student at the university Peter attends, but it never feels that interesting.
