One of the best episodes

Warning: Spoilers
This one is in my top three along with Mike's Appendix and Archie and the Computer.

This episode having a dramatic slant to it is also one of the funniest episodes of the series. They didn't always use Sally Struthers as much as they could have storyline wise but this is one of her best episodes. She has an argument with Edith over a disagreement with Archie and by they time they go to bed she's fighting with Mike. Mike defends Edith while Archie tries to listen through the wall with a glass! They all end up back in the living room and Edith is able to settle the argument between Mike and Gloria but not before more yelling and a slap across the face Mike gets from Gloria. Archie of course enjoys that and a few of Gloria's verbal insults at Mike. Gloria realizes things are not as simple as she thought and she and Edith make up. Archie is actually the calmest one it this episode. That doesn't happen very often!

Gloria and Edith Perfection

Warning: Spoilers
I've always remembered this episode for the hilarious and the emotional moments. Really emotional. That's what made this a breakthrough series, laughing uproariously one minute and weeping the next.

Gloria is at her best coming home really tired and no patience with Archie. When she tells Edith she's a doormat letting Archie always have his way and finally a 'nothing', you feel Edith's pain, especially her rendition of Happy Birthday to Gloria.

Some of the funniest scenes between Mike and Gloria ensue as they argue but that emotional ending when Edith, though very mad at Gloria, tells the couple a thoughtful story about her own mother and father's trouble is for me some of the best acting ever. Jean Stapleton was a superb actress and when Gloria apologizes to her mother with that heartfelt moment, I was moved to tears. Then laughing again at Archie's reaction. A great episode of emotional highs and lows and just great writing and acting.

Gloria's in a bad mood

And it's due to it being "that time of the month" which gets her into arguments with Archie,Edith and Mike.

A terrific episode with great moments for all the cast. It starts with Archie and Gloria arguing over women's problems. It is also Gloria's birthday and Edith has a cake ready for her. However Gloria then berates Edith for constantly giving in to Archie's demands, calling her a "doormat" and a "nothing."Edith is very hurt and stops talking to Gloria. While lying in bed late that night Edith is sighing in despair and Archie taps her saying "Hey,Edith?" Edith says "Not now, Archie I'm not in the mood!" for a big laugh and an even bigger one when Archie says "Fer WHAT?" It all comes to a head with Gloria and Mike getting into a fight and Archie listening with a glass to his ear.Gloria storms downstairs and slaps Mike in the face when he tries to bring her back to bed. Mike says to Archie "Did you see that?" With great comic timing, Archie replies "Yeah it was worth getting' up for"

Very nasty Gloria. Bummer episode.
vitoscotti19 December 2021
A very complex, almost disturbing episode how Gloria speaks to her mother. The point is Archie rarely gets his own way on major issues. Edith has the final say. But she gets the final say circuitously. She can't be expected to go to war and fight Archie every day. Gloria attacks her parents. But they're ok for her & Mike to mooch off of. Episode is below par. I wouldn't watch it again in the near future.
