I've written previously that I consider Ralph Waite the finest actor in the whole cast.
He was simply a natural in the role of John Walton.
I'm not sure if the failure of this episode was primarily Ralph Waite the director, or the script itself. Or possibly both.
Linda Purl's southern accent was just too much. Way too much. The plot itself just seemed to drag endlessly. I could find nothing in this episode to make me want to hold on.
A very unusual failure for a 5th season episode of this stellar series.
