I wish real life was this interesting.
Funny episode. The show is starting to ramp up with the dark humor. Also Newman is starting to become well...Newman. Good episode.

But the whole thing with Jerry and Gina felt like something from a soap opera.

Thoughts about the episode
hadargo5 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I just want to pay attention to the fact that this episode is so not updated and it's a reminder that the show became "old" in many ways, much more than Friends. I'm guessing that the relatively low score the episode got is because the remarks about suicide (Jerry wonders why people who tried to suicide once don't try to do it again) or maybe even because the treatment to women (why did Kramer had the time of his life in the hotel? Because there were naked models in it). It's interesting that in this political correct age of today Netflix didn't put any warnings to the viewers it might trigger then.

Enough to Keep It Going

For starters, I thought the whole looting of coma victims was hilarious. The fact that someone could be watching to see how long someone was in a coma and steal their stuff. Like Kramer's vacuum cleaner (and attachments). Elaine's fast was great with her facial contortions. And the appearance of Newman with his threats to Jerry. I want to add my comment that the standup stuff about suicide was really tasteless.

Hello, Newman!
MaxBorg8913 November 2008
Chubby, wearing glasses, constantly hungry, hatching mischievous plans and giggling like only true maniacs are able to: that would be Newman, then. Best described as Jerry Seinfeld's nemesis, the character first made a voice-only cameo in Season Two, with Larry David (subsequently dubbed in reruns and on the DVD after the part was recast) expressing the fat loser's frustration. It is here, however, that he makes his first real appearance, played by Wayne Knight, also known for smaller parts in films like basic Instinct and Jurassic Park.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves: the main focus of the episode is the suicide attempt by one of Jerry's neighbors. When the incident lands him in a coma, Jerry embarks on a relationship with his girlfriend. As it happens, Newman is a good friend of the poor guy, and vows to make sure Jerry gets in trouble, while also finding time to hang out with Kramer. As this goes on, George sees a psychic who has no good news for him, and Elaine gets mad when she has to stop eating before surgery.

Suicide is something that few sitcoms at the time would have had the guts to deal with in a lighter fashion. Then again, given the bolder choices of content made by the writers in later seasons, their approach to the matter is rather tame. Besides, the whole story is just an excuse for Jerry and Newman to square off. The series co-creator has acknowledged in interviews that he and Larry David knew right off the bat that Knight would be perfect for the role, and their confidence is repaid more than expected from the very moment the villainous nerd makes his entrance, with Jerry sarcastically saying: "Hello, Newman!" and his adversary replying with fake cheerfulness: "Hello, Jerry!". No offense to Jerry Stiller, who later joined the show as George's father, but Wayne Knight could easily be the funniest guest star in Seinfeld's wildly successful history.

The Suicide is a really fantastic episode, that's full of wonderful wacky moments and laughs!

*plot*. Jerry starts a relationship with a woman whose boyfriend falls into a coma after attempting suicide. Newman appears and threatens to reveal the affair to the coma victim as soon as he recovers. George gives his dream vacation to Kramer after a psychic predicts a catastrophe, while Elaine cannot eat until she gets the test results back from her test.

The Suicide is a really fantastic episode, that's full of wonderful wacky moments and laughs!. The character of Martin really reminded me of a person that I know personally that I despise, and This episode is highly underrated in my opinion, plus it's extremely well written by Tom Leopold and directed by Tom Cherones!. Jerry's stand ups were very funny in this one, and it's really well made as well, plus it was also funny when Elaine freaks out at the psychic for smoking while pregnant with her baby. Julia was also very funny when she had this scene in the hospital talking about Duck, and I really loved the ending to this as well, plus The scene where GIna is asking Jerry about The Three stooges was the highlight of the show for me. The Suicide is a really fantastic episode, that's full of wonderful wacky moments and laughs, and I say Go see it now Seinfeld fans if you Haven't!. ***** out of 5 Favorite quotes.

George: Hey I'm all set I got the tickets, I'm going to the Cayman Islands this Friday. Jerry: I don't get you, who goes on a vacation without a job?, what do you need a break from getting up at 11?.

George(telling Jerry his dream about Martin). George: Hey you know what?, I just remembered something, I had a dream about that guy last night, this is amazing. Jerry: What's so amazing?, Youv'e seen him before. George: I Haven't seen him for months!. Jerry: What was the dream?. George: He was doing stand up Comedy in Kennebunk Maine , in this really ominous night club, the stage was on a cliff, and the audience was throwing all the comics off. Jerry I think Iv'e played there. George: Iv'e had a lot of other paranormal stuff happen to me. Jerry: Your a little paranormal, name one paranormal thing that happened to you. George: I knew I was going to be bald. Jerry: Your Father's bald. George: Baldness is inherited from the Mother's side Jerry. Jerry: But your Mother's bald too!.

(Gina knocking on Jerry's door in the night). Jerry: Who is it?, who is it?. Gina: It's Gina. Jerry: Who?. Gina: I'm Martin's girlfriend . Jerry: Martin?. Gina: Your next door neighbor. Jerry: Oh Martin!. Gina: It's Martin I think He's dying he tried to kill himself with pills. Jerry: What?. Gina: Come on!, Jerry: I'm in pajama's, let me go get the robe. Gina: There's no time!. Jerry: No forget it . Gina: No go ahead. Gina: Forget it come on. Jerry: No I'll get the robe.

Gina: Let me ask you what will you do when Martin wakes up, run away like a mouse?. Jerry: More like the Three Stooges at the end of every movie. Gina: Who are these Stooges you speak of?. Jerry: There a Comedy team. Gina: Tell me about them tell me everything!. Jerry: Well They're really funny looking guys, and They'd hit each other a lot. Gina: You will show me the stooges?. Jerry: I will show you the stooges.

(Elaine makes the psychic angry). Psychic: I don't need this, I would like you both to leave . Elaine: Oh fine!, well I don't like to be around people who are just so irresponsible. Psychic: Get out of here!. George: Is it a plain crash, Heart attack, Lupus is it Lupus?. Psychic: Do you want me to call the super?, he was a Commando. George: If you don't say anything, I'll assume it's a plain crash. Psychic: Get out!. George: Not a plane crash, is it a plane crash?.

(Elaine hasn't eaten in three days). Elaine: But here it was mountains of duck, and not Fatty duck either, but juicy tender breasts of duck, beautifully sliced, you can takes as much as you want.

Overall Go see it now Seinfeld fans if you Haven't!.

Newman!
safenoe25 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
In this third season episode, Newman makes his on-screen debut. Newman is deliciously played by Wayne Knight, and several months after the debut of this episode, Knight's stardom shot into the stratosphere following his role in Basic Instinct, alongside Sharon Stone, and supported by Michael "The Streets of San Francisco" Douglas. Anyway, Newman was an essential part of the Seinfeld universe, and I remember reading an article, published when Seinfeld wrapped up its nine season run, that Jerry Seinfeld would have liked to have had an episode focused on the supporting characters, which would have been amazing.

Along with "Male Unbonding" this is so far my least favorite episode of the show.

Yes, the show is old and stuff but this is still terrible. Especially the last part when Jerry wonders why they didn't try it again. And in this case, Netflix should also put a trigger warning to the viewers in the beginning. I honestly think Elaine carried this episode just like many others for me.

George: The psychic said something terrible will happen. Kramer: I dig
bombersflyup3 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The Suicide is about Jerry's neighbour attempting suicide and winding up in a coma and Jerry proceeding to begin a relationship with his girlfriend.

Not among the better episodes. Jerry's opening standup doesn't even have a punchline, however the suicide bit to end perhaps highlights the episode. Kramer and George keep it entertaining within, along with Elaine's mildly amusing fasting. Newman appears, a deviously likeable nemesis of the future. Kramer's notion that coma victim's will be looted's humorous, more so Richard's delivery though.

"Why don't they just keep trying? What has changed? Is their life any better now? No. In fact, it's worse, because now they've found out... here's one more thing I stink at. That's why these people don't succeed at life to begin with. Because they give up too easy."
