Roy and Dale find the Indian agent murdered. Roy investigates with the help of Chief Kumaska. When an inspector is sent out to look into the matter, he is wounded from ambush. An old prospector named Payne and Big Slim, the foreman for the Indian salt mine, sure look suspicious. Pat helps Roy look into the shootings and hopes to get an idea for his correspondence school course in mystery writing. They learn that Payne and Slim are high-grading (stealing) gold ore which is on the Indian reservation. But how to prove it?
