Roman Holiday with horses
stevegoldbergmedia28 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
While not plot point for plot point, it occurred to me quickly that this episode was inspired by the 1953 classic Roman Holiday, one of my all-time favorite films. A foreign princess trying to escape her obligations with dreams of a "normal" life only to realize that is one privilege that she will never enjoy. Unlike the film, the love interest is one-way in this script as the Princess professes her love for Lucas but he's no Joe Bradley, Lucas is not affected. Still, her monologue at the end is very similar in realization to that of Princess Ann in Roman Holiday. Still, if I were writing or directing this episode, I would have had a silly fight scene to bond Lucas and the Princess with a bit more oomph.

A wee bit of mystery and charm comes to the McCain farm
headhunter4626 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
My ears aren't the best so I may have missed what foreign country the visitors were supposedly from. Perhaps that was not the main issue anyway.

I noticed a French-like accent when Jennifer spoke so I was guessing France however there were countries that French as a second language and often they used it as it was considered more fitting to royalty.

This was interesting in that someone who had privilege and security had begun to see their position as a restriction rather than special circumstances. I often wonder how royalty actually do feel about all the expectations placed on them.

The excitement Jennifer displayed while learning new things was refreshing. A bit like a caterpillar emerging from the cocoon. She was an adorable addition to the episodes. And there was a lesson involved for those who were paying attention.

Not The Usual Episode But...

It was not that bad an epsode and as far as the character of Jennifer, her accent though heavy at times was not unbearable. Annie Farge was quite adorable. America is a country of accents. Get over it.

An out-of-place story for this western series.
kfo949412 August 2014
We are accustom to have some strange characters make their way through North Fork but this is an episode that takes the cake. It just so happens that a proper lady and a fancy lad comes to the McCain's ranch in rural territory of New Mexico and the word on the street is that the lady is a princess that is running away from her royal duties.

But unlike 'the royals' this woman wants to learn everything about farming so that she can make it on her own. And it appears that all the talk about being a princess might just be hogwash. But when an event happens we will find out if the lady is truly running from her obligations or just scared of being in the spotlight.

The story is not really that bad, it is just difficult to believe that North Fork is the crossroads of the world. The story was out-of-place in this rural western series and was more apt for a contemporary setting. But if you like fantasy then you might just have a good review of this show. But when I watch 'The Rifleman'--- fantasy is not what is expected.

Sappy Filler

This was one of the worst episodes, it did not come like a normal episode, it was laden down with maudlin themes of a sad girl runs away from home. The princess played by a foreign actress had one of the worst speaking voices ever, I just can't stand this actress.
