'Our Fiftieth Episode' has one of my favorite cold opens on the show, seeing Bill McNeal freak out on a meter maid and instigating the police . . . before fleeing the scene. That this all goes down in silence is brilliant and speaks to Phil Hartman's gifts as a physical comedian.
Naturally, he's committed to a mental hospital (because why not?), aptly likened to an ape cage at the zoo. It is beyond sill, but the idea of Bill being tormented in the loony bin is priceless. This probably shouldn't work as well as it does, but it fits the show's sense of humor. And Jon Lovitz is rarely this likable. Say what you will about his later addition as Hartman's quasi-replacement (I didn't like it either), but when he guest starred, it was always good.
