It was fun to see Bill Daily, an old TV staple show up. He is a depressed man whose wife left him five years ago. He is a real downer as a personality. Dick shows some modest kindness toward him and soon the guy becomes a pest. Dick, being a kind man at heart, allows himself to be taken advantage of. The bulk of the episode deals either with disdain over Dick's choosing Sam as his best friend and then who will be the best friend after Dick dumps him. It's the usual townsfolk who are really insufferable along with George and Michael. Stephanie plays a slug who sits on the sofa and reads magazines.

A sad sack guest shows up and thinks Dick has become his best friend.
Bill Daily (Howard on "The Bob Newhart Show) guest stars in this funny episode. This is reminiscent of the old show, especially one episode when Howard and Jerry argue over who Bob's best friend is. This time George, Michael, Chester, Jim and Mr Rusnak all feel they are in the running to be Dick's best friend. Funniest scene is when they all put their names in a hat.
